Abstract

Background. Despite Japan’s global reputation for technological innovation, female representation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields remains disproportionately low. Cultural expectations, gender norms, and limited role models contribute to the underrepresentation of young women in STEM pathways. Purpose. This study explores how digital storytelling can serve as a transformative pedagogical tool to support the development of STEM identity among female high school students in Japan. Method. Using a qualitative narrative inquiry approach, the study engaged 15 female students aged 16–18 from three urban high schools. Participants created and reflected on personal digital stories that connected their lived experiences with STEM-related aspirations, interests, or challenges. Results. Data were collected through digital artifacts, in-depth interviews, and reflective journals, then analyzed thematically. Findings reveal that digital storytelling enabled participants to articulate their evolving sense of agency, challenge internalized gender stereotypes, and envision themselves in future STEM careers.  The process fostered increased confidence, self-recognition as potential STEM contributors, and a sense of belonging in scientific discourse. Conclusion. This study demonstrates the potential of narrative-based, multimodal learning tools in reshaping STEM identity formation for underrepresented groups. It contributes to feminist pedagogy and STEM education research through the intersection of narrative, identity, and digital media.

Abstract

Escalating deforestation and the shortcomings of conventional, state-centric forest management paradigms necessitate the exploration of alternative governance models. Hutan Adat (Indigenous Forests), managed through customary laws, represent a long-standing yet frequently overlooked approach to ecological stewardship. This research aims to analyze the principles and practices of Hutan Adat management by the Dayak community in Borneo, evaluating its effectiveness and potential as a replicable model for sustainable forest governance. Employing a qualitative case study approach, this study utilizes ethnographic observation, in-depth interviews with community elders, and participatory mapping. The findings reveal a sophisticated governance system rooted in local wisdom, spiritual values, and collectively enforced customary laws (hukum adat). This system effectively regulates resource extraction, conserves biodiversity, and ensures equitable benefit sharing, resulting in lower deforestation rates and greater ecological integrity compared to adjacent state-managed areas. The study concludes that the Dayak Hutan Adat is a robust and effective model of sustainable forest governance. Its formal recognition and integration into national policy frameworks are crucial for achieving conservation goals while upholding indigenous rights and promoting social justice.

Abstract

The shift to remote work has introduced significant challenges for leaders, particularly in balancing the need for organizational efficiency with the well-being of employees. The paradox of remote leadership lies in the difficulty of mitigating employee burnout Tan, Ewhile enhancing organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) through effective leadership. This study explores the relationship between digital transformational leadership, employee burnout, and OCB in remote work environments. The primary aim of this research is to investigate how digital transformational leadership can reduce employee burnout and promote OCB in remote work settings. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The survey assessed employee burnout, OCB, and perceptions of digital leadership, while interviews provided deeper insights into employee experiences. The findings reveal that digital transformational leadership significantly reduces burnout and enhances OCB. Employees who reported higher levels of leadership support and empowerment in virtual environments experienced lower burnout levels and higher engagement in extra-role behaviors. The study emphasizes the importance of digital leadership practices in fostering a healthy, motivated, and productive remote workforce. In conclusion, digital transformational leadership is essential for navigating the remote leadership paradox.

Abstract

Quantum simulation of complex molecular dynamics using quantum annealing has great potential to solve complex and complex molecular simulation problems. Quantum annealing, which optimizes the search for solutions in the energy space by utilizing quantum phenomena, offers advantages in speeding up the simulation process compared to classical methods. This study aims to explore the use of quantum annealing in complex molecular simulations, focusing on its effectiveness in finding molecular configurations with minimum energy. The method used involves simulation experiments using quantum annealing hardware and comparing the results with classical simulations. The results show that quantum annealing can improve computational time efficiency and produce more accurate solutions on large molecules with complex interactions. Although there are some limitations of current quantum hardware, the results of this study show the great potential for the use of quantum annealing in molecular dynamics simulations. Further research needs to be focused on improving quantum hardware and developing more advanced algorithms to support more complex molecular simulations.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has led to significant advancements in various industries, including the creative sector. IoT technology enables the interconnection of devices and systems, allowing for new forms of interaction and automation. However, the potential of IoT to generate new business opportunities within the creative industries has not been fully explored. This research aims to investigate the impact of IoT on the creative sector, focusing on how businesses can leverage IoT to innovate, enhance customer experiences, and streamline operations. The study adopts a qualitative research approach, combining case studies and interviews with industry professionals to explore the current applications of IoT in design, media, entertainment, and the arts. The findings indicate that IoT technologies have the potential to revolutionize the creative sector by enabling personalized experiences, optimizing creative workflows, and creating new revenue streams. Businesses are increasingly adopting IoT to offer interactive experiences, such as smart installations, personalized content, and enhanced product design. The study concludes that IoT can offer substantial business opportunities for companies in the creative sector, especially when it comes to enhancing customer engagement and integrating technology into traditional creative processes.
