Abstract

Demonstrating handwashing with soap under running water can reduce or even eliminate pathogens that cause infectious diseases. Hand hygiene refers to the act of cleaning hands using soap and rinsing under running water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of handwashing demonstrations on hand hygiene behavior among school-age children in Tango Molas Village. The study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a control group pre-test–post-test approach. The control group consisted of students from SDI Rewung, while the intervention group consisted of students from SDI Kengko. The results of the Wilcoxon test on hand hygiene behavior in both groups (pre- and post-test) showed that the p-value in the experimental group was 0.001, indicating a statistically significant improvement in hand hygiene behavior among school-age children in Tango Molas Village.

Abstract

Nutrition-sensitive factors, such as infections, are indirect contributors to inadequate nutrient absorption. This study aims to identify the nutrition-sensitive factors associated with stunted growth among under-five children attending a public health center due to infection-related problems. A cross-sectional design was used, involving 47 children who visited the public health center in July 2022. Participants were recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, a microtoise, and the WHO growth chart. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-square test, while multivariate analysis employed binary logistic regression. The results showed that 35 children had normal growth, while 12 were stunted. The most common nursing diagnosis was ineffective airway clearance (36.2%). Among the nutrition-sensitive factors, household water supply was the most dominant factor associated with stunted growth (OR = 42.317; p = 0.038). Poor access to clean water, mediated by infection, can hinder the linear growth of children.

Abstract

Background: Cardiac arrest is an emergency condition that often occurs outside the hospital. Knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS) and techniques for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation can improve patient survival until medical assistance arrives, this can sustain a patient's life in many cases. Ordinary and trained lay people, including security guards, need to be alert when helping victims by providing basic life support in order to increase the survival of sufferers, but the failure of efforts to save victims is due to BLS actions that are not in accordance with procedures. Methods: This research is a quantitative research with a descriptive approach with a sample of 75 security guards working in Ruteng City. Results: The results of the analysis of this study show that most of the security guards in Ruteng City, namely 77% (58 people) have poor knowledge about BLS, 16% have sufficient knowledge about BLS, and only 7% have good knowledge about BLS. Suggestion: Security guards must receive periodic training on Basic Life Support, this is done to reduce the mortality rate of cardiac arrest victims outside the hospital.
