Abstract

Continuous use of chemical pesticides can increase the risk of environmental pollution, residues in agricultural products, health problems, and pest resistance. In Medana Village, members of the Women Farmers Group (KWT) need alternative plant pest control that is easy to make, cheap, and more environmentally friendly. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of KWT members in making organic pesticides from natural ingredients and kitchen ingredients. The activity was carried out in Medana Village, Tanjung District, North Lombok Regency through socialization, demonstrations, direct practice, mentoring, and participatory evaluation. The materials used included turmeric, rice washing water, tobacco, coffee grounds, and shallot skins. Participants were guided to make three simple formulations, namely a mixture of turmeric and rice washing water, a mixture of tobacco and coffee grounds, and a soaking of shallot skins. The solution was fermented for 1x24 hours, filtered, diluted, and then applied to plants. The results of the activity showed that participants were able to understand the benefits of organic pesticides, recognize local materials with bioactive potential, and practice the stages of making pesticides independently. Based on observations and discussions, participants expressed interest in applying organic pesticides to yard plants and agricultural land as an effort to reduce dependence on chemical pesticides. This activity contributed to strengthening the capacity of the Women's Farmers' Group (KWT) in managing environmentally friendly agriculture based on local materials.

Abstract

Besides being a tourist destination, Pandanan Beach has considerable marine potential. One of the marine potentials that is still minimally utilized in this location but has strategic value is macroalgae. This study aims to identify the types of macroalgae found in Pandanan Beach, North Lombok Regency. The type of research used is descriptive research that describes the types of macroalgae around Pandanan Beach. Determination of the research location used a purposive sampling method at 3 stations with a distance between stations of 10 meters. Sampling was carried out using a 1 m × 1 m quadrant, while the distance between the quadrants was determined using a 100 meter line transect. Samples obtained along the transect were then put into plastic bags and given a 75% alcohol solution for further identification. The identification results showed that there were 16 types of macroalgae in Pandanan Beach. These species fall into three divisions: Chlorophyta (6 species) (Chaetomorpha crassa, Halimeda macroloba, Halimeda monile, Boergesenia forbesii, Dictyosphaeria versluysii, and Ulva intestinalis), Phaeophyta (5 species) (Padina australis, Turbinaria decurrens, Sargassum polycystum, Hydroclathrus sp., and Dictyota sp.), and Rhodophyta (5 species) (Eucheuma sp., Gracilaria verrucosa, Galaxaura arborea, Laurencia papillosa, and Gelidium spinosum).

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the community in producing insect traps and botanical pesticides, identifying plant species with potential as botanical pesticides, and applying both technologies to reduce the use of chemical pesticides in the nutrition garden program of Anyar Village. The target participants were members of the Anyar Village PKK group, particularly those in Working Group 3 (Pokja 3) who are responsible for implementing the nutrition garden program. The activity consisted of four stages: coordination, socialization, training, and evaluation. Socialization was carried out through lectures explaining the basic concepts and practical steps in producing botanical pesticides. The training was conducted through direct practice, including the creation of insect traps made from yellow adhesive plastic bottles and the preparation of botanical pesticides using neem leaves (Azadirachta indica), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), galangal (Alpinia galanga), and soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.), mixed with water and dish soap as an adhesive agent. A total of 17 participants attended the activity. Achievement of the program objectives was evaluated through participant response surveys using questionnaires, and the data were analyzed descriptively. The evaluation results showed that 100% of participants understood the material and were able to independently prepare botanical pesticides, while 95% indicated a commitment to applying botanical pesticides in the nutrition garden activities.

Abstract

Mangroves are a type of higher plant found in coastal areas that play many roles, one of which is as a bioaccumulator of harmful pollutants. One such harmful pollutant is the heavy metal Lead (Pb). This study aims to determine the effect of various concentrations of lead on the growth of mangrove seedlings, specifically Rhizophora stylosa. This research is an experimental study using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). There were four lead concentration treatments: K0 = 0 ppm (control); K1 = 0.1 ppm; K2 = 1 ppm; K3 = 10 ppm; and K4 = 100 ppm. Each treatment was repeated five times, resulting in 25 experimental units. The seedlings used were Rhizophora stylosa, approximately 8 months old, with an average height of 70 cm and an average of 8 leaves. The growing medium used was homogenized mud soil. Before the experiment, the plants were acclimatized for 1 week. The treatment involved a solution of Pb acetate administered every day for 6 weeks. The parameters measured included plant height increase (cm), leaf area (cm²), increase in the number of leaves, increase in the number of shoots, and increase in stem diameter (cm). Based on observations over the 6-week treatment period, the average stem growth was between 0.12-0.28 cm, with no increase in stem diameter, an average leaf area increase of 0.14-0.38 cm², an increase in shoots by 1-3, and an increase in the number of leaves by 2-6. The ANOVA results at a significance level of 5% indicated that lead concentrations of 0-100 ppm did not significantly affect the growth of Rhizophora stylosa seedlings.

Abstract

Gastropods have an important ecological role in coastal ecosystems, such as decomposing organic matter, playing an important role in the food chain and with the characteristics of the habitat at the bottom of the substrate, this organism is used as a bioindicator to assess the quality of the marine environment. The importance of initial documentation of the types of marine biota in an area needs to be done, one of which is on Amor-amor Beach where this area is the center of the development of aquaculture activities in the North Lombok area. This study aims to identify the types of gastropods in the intertidal zone of Amor-Amor Beach, North Lombok Regency. This type of research is descriptive exploratory. The study was conducted in July - September 2024. Sampling by purposive sampling consisted of three stations, namely; station 1 (waters facing the Tambak inlet), station 2 (waters in the outlet area) and station 3 (waters far from the tambak area). The sampling used a 1x1 m transect, species attached to rocks were taken directly, while species that burrowed or were in the sand substrate were taken by placing a PVC pipe frame with a sieve. Species of unknown type were put into a sample bottle given a 70% alcohol solution, then identified using an identification book and several internet literature. The results of this study found 23 species of gastropods from 13 families, namely the Neritidae family (4 species), the Muricidae family (2 species), the Conidae family (5 species), the Nassaridae family (4 species), the Strombidae family (2 species) and 1 species for each of the Collumbelidae, Olividae, Littorinidae, Cypraeidae, Ranelidae, Nacelidae, Turbinidae, and Trochidae families. This finding is important as a basis for information for biodiversity conservation efforts and as an ecological indicator in coastal environmental biomonitoring activities.
