Abstract

Creative thinking skills are essential in science education; however, teacher-centered instruction often limits students' opportunities to generate diverse alternative solutions. This study aimed to analyze the impact of a waste-recycling-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on the creative thinking skills of 7th-grade students regarding the topic of interactions between living organisms and their environment. A quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design was employed. The sample consisted of 62 students, divided into an experimental group (31 students) and a control group (31 students). Data were collected through creative thinking skills tests, observations of lesson implementation, project assessments, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using N-Gain and Mann-Whitney U tests. The results showed that the average pre-test and post-test scores for the experimental group rose from 39.32 to 67.45, while the control group increased from 41.45 to 54.16. The Mann-Whitney U test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.001). The experimental group's N-Gain score was 0.46 (moderate category), which was higher than the control group's score of 0.22 (low category). Thus, the waste-recycling-based PjBL model has a significant impact and fosters greater improvement in students' creative thinking skills. This model offers a viable alternative for science instruction by integrating creativity, problem-solving, and environmental awareness.

Abstract

Continuous use of chemical pesticides can increase the risk of environmental pollution, residues in agricultural products, health problems, and pest resistance. In Medana Village, members of the Women Farmers Group (KWT) need alternative plant pest control that is easy to make, cheap, and more environmentally friendly. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of KWT members in making organic pesticides from natural ingredients and kitchen ingredients. The activity was carried out in Medana Village, Tanjung District, North Lombok Regency through socialization, demonstrations, direct practice, mentoring, and participatory evaluation. The materials used included turmeric, rice washing water, tobacco, coffee grounds, and shallot skins. Participants were guided to make three simple formulations, namely a mixture of turmeric and rice washing water, a mixture of tobacco and coffee grounds, and a soaking of shallot skins. The solution was fermented for 1x24 hours, filtered, diluted, and then applied to plants. The results of the activity showed that participants were able to understand the benefits of organic pesticides, recognize local materials with bioactive potential, and practice the stages of making pesticides independently. Based on observations and discussions, participants expressed interest in applying organic pesticides to yard plants and agricultural land as an effort to reduce dependence on chemical pesticides. This activity contributed to strengthening the capacity of the Women's Farmers' Group (KWT) in managing environmentally friendly agriculture based on local materials.

Abstract

Besides being a tourist destination, Pandanan Beach has considerable marine potential. One of the marine potentials that is still minimally utilized in this location but has strategic value is macroalgae. This study aims to identify the types of macroalgae found in Pandanan Beach, North Lombok Regency. The type of research used is descriptive research that describes the types of macroalgae around Pandanan Beach. Determination of the research location used a purposive sampling method at 3 stations with a distance between stations of 10 meters. Sampling was carried out using a 1 m × 1 m quadrant, while the distance between the quadrants was determined using a 100 meter line transect. Samples obtained along the transect were then put into plastic bags and given a 75% alcohol solution for further identification. The identification results showed that there were 16 types of macroalgae in Pandanan Beach. These species fall into three divisions: Chlorophyta (6 species) (Chaetomorpha crassa, Halimeda macroloba, Halimeda monile, Boergesenia forbesii, Dictyosphaeria versluysii, and Ulva intestinalis), Phaeophyta (5 species) (Padina australis, Turbinaria decurrens, Sargassum polycystum, Hydroclathrus sp., and Dictyota sp.), and Rhodophyta (5 species) (Eucheuma sp., Gracilaria verrucosa, Galaxaura arborea, Laurencia papillosa, and Gelidium spinosum).

Abstract

The Araceae family (taro) is a group of understory plants that have high diversity and play an important role ecologically and economically, but some of its species are still less well known by the public. This study aims to identify the types of plants of the Araceae family and analyze their diversity levels in the Suranadi Nature Tourism Park (TWA). The study used a descriptive exploratory method with a quadrat transect technique at three observation stations. Each station consisted of two plots measuring 5 × 5 m, resulting in six observation plots. The results of the study found 11 species of Araceae belonging to 8 genera with a total of 118 individuals. The genus with the largest number of species is Syngonium (3 species), followed by Dieffenbachia (2 species), while the other genera each consist of 1 species. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index value ranged from 0.772–1.491 with a low to moderate category. Environmental conditions of 26–28°C, 55–75% humidity, and a soil pH of 5.5–6.0 indicate that the Suranadi Natural Park (TWA) offers suitable habitat conditions for the growth of Araceae. The results of this study indicate that the Suranadi Natural Park has a relatively high diversity of Araceae and can serve as a source of information for conservation, education, and area management.

Abstract

Medicinal plants have long been utilized by the traditional community in Darek Village to treat various illnesses. One of the plant parts most commonly used for medicinal purposes is the leaf. Leaves exhibit diverse characteristics in terms of shape and size across different species. Leaf morphology includes features such as shape, color, size, venation pattern, leaf margin, leaf apex, leaf base, surface texture, and others. This study aims to identify the plant species whose leaves are used in traditional medicine by the Darek community and to describe the morphological characteristics of these medicinal leaves. This research employed a eksplorative descriptive approach using semi-structured interviews to document local knowledge regarding the use of medicinal plant leaves in Darek Village. Respondents were selected through a purposive sampling technique, involving community leaders and individuals recognized for their traditional knowledge of medicinal plants. The collected data were analyzed through data reduction, classification, and conclusion drawing to identify the plant species used medicinally and their leaf morphological traits. The findings indicate that the community utilizes 15 types of leaves from 13 plant families as traditional medicinal resources. In general, these medicinal plants display diverse leaf morphological characteristics, particularly in surface texture, venation type, and the shapes of the leaf margin, apex, and base. This morphological variation reflects the diversity of species employed and serves as a basis for the community to recognize and differentiate medicinal leaves. These findings highlight the richness of local knowledge, which holds potential for further development in ethnobotanical studies and the conservation of biological resources.
