Abstract

Abstract

Uneven regional development may lead to disparities in economic performance across regions. West Sumatra Province, which consists of seven cities and twelve regencies, exhibits diverse economic, demographic, and natural resource characteristics that contribute to variations in regional development. This study aims to analyze patterns of economic development and the level of regional inequality among districts and cities in West Sumatra Province during the period 2011–2019. The analysis employs the Klassen typology to classify regional economic growth patterns and the Williamson Index to measure the degree of regional inequality. Secondary data on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and GRDP per capita were obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics. The results of the Klassen typology analysis indicate that most cities in West Sumatra Province fall into the category of advanced and rapidly growing regions, while several regencies are classified as developed but depressed, fast-growing, or relatively lagging regions. Furthermore, the Williamson Index results show that regional inequality in West Sumatra Province during the study period remains at a low level and tends to approach zero, suggesting that economic growth and development across regions are relatively even.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the strategic role of communication in development planning, particularly within the framework of participatory and sustainable environmental policy. Employing a qualitative exploratory approach through literature review, this research analyzes recent studies (2021–2025) from diverse geographical contexts to identify patterns, challenges, and contributions of communication to the effectiveness of development policy. The findings indicate that two-way, deliberative, and context-sensitive communication enhances public participation, strengthens policy legitimacy, and bridges gaps between the state and civil society actors. Nevertheless, barriers such as power imbalances, weak institutional capacity, and social exclusion remain significant obstacles. The study underscores the need for policy communication designs that are not merely procedural but also substantive and transformative. These findings contribute theoretically to the discourse on development communication, while offering practical recommendations for planners, policymakers, and scholars in designing inclusive, responsive, and just communication systems for sustainable development governance.

Abstract

Full-scale static uplift testing can be used to evaluate the load–displacement response and deformation behavior of foundation piles under actual ground conditions. This study evaluates the deformation behavior of a bored pile based on a field testing report from East Jakarta, Indonesia. The pile had a diameter of 1.00 m and an actual length of 26.95 m and was tested up to 240 ton, equivalent to 200% of the design uplift load of 120 ton. The available summary data were analyzed using a quantitative descriptive approach, focusing on the load–displacement curve, the load-to-displacement ratio, displacement changes during the maximum load-holding period, residual deformation after unloading, and variations in the readings of four dial gauges. The average displacement increased from 0.19 mm at a load of 30 ton to 11.39 mm at the beginning of the 12-hour holding period at 240 ton and 11.49 mm at the end of the holding period. The additional displacement during load holding was 0.10 mm, corresponding to an average displacement rate of 0.0083 mm/h. The residual deformation after unloading was 3.59 mm, indicating a displacement recovery of 7.90 mm, or approximately 68.8% of the maximum displacement. The ratio Q/s decreased from 157.9 tonnes/mm at 30 tonnes to 21.1 tonnes/mm at 240 ton, indicating a nonlinear characteristics response of the pile–soil system. These findings characterize the deformation response of the tested bored pile within the investigated loading range.
