Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The diagnosis of bipolar disorder (BD) in adolescents is often delayed due to reliance on subjective assessments, necessitating objective biomarkers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) to improve clinical accuracy. This systematic review aims to synthesize the latest findings on the role of CRP levels in adolescents with BD through analysis of various experimental studies. The systematic review was conducted in January 2026 through searches in Embase, PubMed, and ScienceDirect for studies from 2016 to 2025. Selection was performed according to PRISMA. Risk of bias was assessed using JBI Critical Appraisal Tools. A total of four experimental studies with a total of 3298 subjects met the criteria with low to moderate risk of bias. CRP levels in adolescents with Bipolar Disorder were found to be significantly elevated compared to the control group, especially during the symptomatic phase and periods of severe symptoms. CRP levels in adolescents with BD were found to be significantly elevated compared to healthy controls (p<0.001) and the anxiety disorder group, especially during the severe symptomatic phase. Additionally, high initial CRP levels significantly predicted longer recovery times (p=0.009). CRP is an effective state-dependent biomarker to support diagnostic accuracy, predict clinical course, and monitor the risk of cognitive decline in adolescents with BD.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder characterized by disturbances in perception, emotion, and thought processes, affecting approximately 24 million people worldwide. In Indonesia, more than 400,000 individuals are estimated to live with schizophrenia. Relapse remains a major challenge in disease management and is influenced by various psychosocial factors, including family support. A systematic review was conducted in December 2025 using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar to identify relevant studies published between 2021 and 2025. Study selection followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The risk of bias was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tools. Sixteen cross-sectional studies involving a total of 1,093 participants met the inclusion criteria. The included studies demonstrated low to high risk of bias. Most studies reported a statistically significant association between family support and relapse prevention or medication adherence among patients with schizophrenia (p < 0.05). Family support plays a crucial role in reducing relapse among patients with schizophrenia in Indonesia. Family-based interventions should be strengthened as part of long-term treatment strategies to improve clinical outcomes.

Abstract

Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is one of the most common complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Its prevalence has increased in Indonesia in parallel with the rising national prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Foot exercise is recommended as a simple non-pharmacological intervention for Diabetic neuropathy (DN); however, existing evidence remains fragmented. This study aimed to map the effectiveness of foot exercise in reducing neuropathy scores among patients with diabetic neuropathy in Indonesia. A scoping review was conducted on articles published between 2016 and 2026 from Garuda, Google Scholar, PubMed, and EBSCO databases. Study selection followed the PRISMA framework with strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 7 studies were analyzed using a descriptive narrative approach. All studies demonstrated a significant reduction in neuropathy scores (p<0.05) following foot exercise interventions, assessed using both subjective (DNS) and objective instruments (DNE, MNSI, TCSS). Intervention duration ranged from 1 to 24 weeks, with frequencies varying from 3 times per week to 5 times per day. More optimal outcomes were observed with longer durations or higher frequencies of intervention. Foot exercise is effective in reducing neuropathy scores in patients with diabetic neuropathy by improving blood circulation, tissue oxygenation, and insulin sensitivity. Regular implementation with adequate duration and frequency yields optimal outcomes and is recommended as a safe and simple non-pharmacological therapy.
