Abstract

Mathematics instruction on three-dimensional shapes in ninth-grade junior high school is still dominated by conventional media, such as textbooks, worksheets, and static teacher explanations. As a result, students often struggle to understand abstract concepts, including nets, surface area, and the volume of three-dimensional shapes. Therefore, learning media are needed that can present the material in a more engaging, interactive, and accessible manner through Android devices. This study aims to develop interactive Android-based educational video media for teaching solid geometry to ninth-grade students. The study employed a research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The developed media were validated by media experts and subject-matter experts and evaluated through user feedback questionnaires. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive methods based on a Likert scale. The results showed that the developed instructional media received feasibility scores of 87.5% from media experts, 91% from subject-matter experts, and 91% from users. All evaluation results were classified as highly valid, indicating that the media have an attractive interface, are easy to use, and present content that is aligned with the learning objectives. Based on these findings, the developed interactive educational video media are considered suitable for use as a supplementary learning tool for teaching three-dimensional shapes to ninth-grade junior high school students.

Abstract

Kemampuan untuk menyelesaian masalah merupakan usaha untuk mendapatkan solusi dari berbagai tantangan demi mencapai tujuan yang sulit dicapai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan kemampuan siswa dalam mengerjakan soal pemecahan masalah matematika yang berhubungan dengan materi Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel (SPLDV). Latar belakang penelitian ini terkait dengan rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal non-rutin, terutama dalam langkah-langkah yang direkomendasikan dalam model pemecahan masalah yang dikemukakan oleh Polya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan subjek berjumlah 6 siswa dari kelas IX MTs Miftahul Ulum yang dipilih dari 20 siswa berdasarkan kategori kemampuan yang berbeda, yakni rendah, sedang, dan tinggi. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini meliputi soal tes berbentuk esai dan wawancara. Temuan dari penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa siswa dengan kategori tinggi mampu menyelesaikan soal sesuai dengan tahapan yang ada dalam model Polya, sementara siswa kategori sedang dan rendah masih mengalami kesulitan, terutama pada tahap pelaksanaan rencana dan pengecekan kembali solusi. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah pentingnya pembelajaran yang berfokus pada strategi penyelesaian yang sistematis serta pelatihan dengan soal-soal non-rutin untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemecahan masalah para siswa.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (PKM) on Mathematics Tutoring for Grade X B Students of MAN 1 Probolinggo on the Topic of Radical Forms was conducted to enhance students’ understanding of the relationship between exponents and radicals. Preliminary observations revealed that most of the 19 male students in the class faced difficulties in mastering the basic concept of exponents, which affected their comprehension of radical expressions. The program was implemented over six weeks with one session per week using a tutoring-based learning approach. The implementation consisted of five stages: planning, pretest, tutoring sessions, posttest, and evaluation. The results showed an increase in the average score from 46 on the pretest to 80 on the posttest, along with improved motivation and active participation during learning activities. Therefore, this PKM activity proved effective in strengthening students’ conceptual understanding of radicals and can serve as an alternative strategy to address learning difficulties in mathematics at the senior high school level.
