Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths, with the overexpression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) playing a critical role in its progression. Current therapies face challenges in targeting EGFR effectively. To synthesize and evaluate nanobodies targeting EGFR in colorectal cancer cells, aiming to improve therapeutic specificity and efficacy. Nanobodies were synthesized using phage display technology and screened for high affinity to EGFR. In vitro studies involved colorectal cancer cell lines (HT-29, SW480, HCT116) to assess binding specificity, internalization, and cytotoxicity. In vivo studies used mouse models implanted with human colorectal tumors to evaluate biodistribution, tumor targeting, and therapeutic outcomes. Synthesized nanobodies demonstrated high binding affinity (KD in nanomolar range) and specificity to EGFR, inhibiting cancer cell proliferation by up to 70% and reducing tumor volume by 65% in mouse models. Stability tests confirmed nanobody resilience under various biological conditions. The study highlights the potential of nanobodies targeting EGFR as an effective therapeutic approach for colorectal cancer, with significant improvements in targeting specificity and tumor reduction. Further clinical trials are necessary to confirm these findings.

Abstract

The environmental “attitude-action gap” persists, as most “green apps” fail to motivate users or achieve long-term financial sustainability. This study aims to design, develop, and test a mobile game framework that bridges this gap by integrating behavioral psychology with a sustainable social entrepreneurship model. Design-Based Research (DBR) approach was used, culminating in a 6-week, mixed-methods pilot study (n=500). Data was collected via in-game analytics, pre/post-test surveys (Pro-Environmental Behavior Scale, PEBS; Intrinsic Motivation Inventory, IMI), and qualitative interviews. The intervention yielded strong engagement (28.1% Wk6 retention) and a statistically significant increase in self-reported Pro-Environmental Behaviors (PEBS) (p < .001, Cohen’s d = 0.82). High intrinsic motivation (4.4/5.0 IMI) was observed, with ‘Social Relatedness’ (? = .45) being the strongest predictor of retention. The B2C social enterprise model was validated., when co-designed as a social enterprise, is empirically validated as an effective and sustainable framework for motivating PEBs. The model successfully bridges the attitude-action gap by prioritizing social connection.

Abstract

Food security remains a critical global challenge, requiring innovative and sustainable solutions to meet the growing demand for nutritious food. One promising approach is the utilization of microbiomes in sustainable biotechnology to enhance agricultural productivity, improve soil health, and increase food production efficiency. This study aims to explore the potential of microbiome-based biotechnological applications in strengthening food security through sustainable agricultural practices. A qualitative research methodology was employed, involving an extensive literature review and analysis of case studies related to microbiome utilization in agriculture. The findings indicate that microbiomes play a significant role in improving crop resilience, enhancing nutrient absorption, and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Furthermore, microbiome-based biotechnology contributes to environmental sustainability by promoting soil biodiversity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The study concludes that integrating microbiome technology into agricultural systems can significantly enhance food security while ensuring ecological balance. Future research should focus on optimizing microbiome applications and developing scalable implementation strategies for various agricultural settings.

Abstract

Industrial activities generate heavy metal waste that challenges conventional methods due to their high cost and low efficiency. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an integrated bioremediation strategy using a genetically engineered microbial consortium in removing heavy metal contaminants while simultaneously improving reactor stability, biosafety, and environmental sustainability. Using a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design, this study tested 420 industrial wastewater samples and 180 laboratory- and pilot-scale bioreactors. The bioreactors represented three treatments: the conventional method, the natural microbial consortium, and the genetically engineered microbial consortium. Quantitative analysis involved descriptive statistics, structural equation modeling (SEM), hierarchical regression, and mediation-moderation analysis. Qualitative data from expert interviews, operational observations, biosafety assessments, and regulatory documents were analyzed thematically. The results demonstrated that the genetically engineered microbial consortium significantly improved heavy metal removal efficiency, microbial viability, metabolic stability, biosorption capacity, reactor performance, and environmental sustainability. Microbial viability was found to partially mediate the relationship between genetic engineering and treatment efficiency, while reactor optimization strengthened the influence of metabolic stability on remediation performance. In conclusion, the sustainability of industrial wastewater treatment depends on the coordinated integration of microbial genetic engineering, ecological cooperation, reactor optimization, biosafety management, and environmental governance to provide a scalable bioremediation framework.

Abstract

Background. The effectiveness of inclusive learning technologies for neurodivergent learners is strongly influenced by how well these tools align with cognitive and behavioral needs. Cognitive Behavioral Theories (CBT) provide a structured framework for addressing learning barriers by focusing on thought patterns, emotional regulation, and adaptive behaviors. Purpose. This study aimed to investigate the development and evaluation of inclusive learning technologies grounded in CBT frameworks. Specifically, it examined how these technologies can empower neurodivergent learners—such as those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, and dyslexia—by improving focus, self-regulation, and active participation in the learning process. Method. The research employed a mixed-methods approach involving 220 neurodivergent learners across higher education and special education settings. Quantitative data were collected through pre- and post-intervention surveys measuring cognitive engagement, emotional regulation, and perceived inclusivity. Results. The findings indicate that CBT-informed digital tools significantly enhanced self-monitoring, reduced task-related anxiety, and increased collaborative engagement across diverse learning contexts. Learners with ADHD showed marked improvements in task persistence, while those with dyslexia demonstrated better comprehension outcomes when adaptive text and cognitive scaffolding features were included. Conclusion. This study highlights the transformative role of CBT-based inclusive technologies in empowering neurodivergent learners. By embedding cognitive-behavioral strategies into digital learning platforms, educators can design interventions that promote equity, resilience, and sustainable learning outcomes. The results carry important implications for future policy, curriculum design, and educational technology innovation aimed at inclusive education.

Abstract

The teaching of English as a foreign language in Indonesia continues to face challenges, particularly in identifying the most effective instructional approach. Previous studies have shown varying results when comparing communicative and grammar-based methods in language acquisition. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of two dominant approaches: the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method and the Grammar-Translation Method (GTM) in improving English proficiency among secondary school students in Indonesia. Employing a quasi-experimental design, this research involved 120 students divided into two equal groups, each receiving instruction based on one of the approaches over a period of 12 weeks. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to measure students’ progress in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. The results indicated that the CLT group significantly outperformed the GTM group, particularly in speaking and listening components, while the GTM group showed marginally better results in grammar and reading comprehension. The findings suggest that while both methods have merits, CLT offers a more balanced improvement in communicative competence. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse on English pedagogy in EFL contexts and provides evidence-based recommendations for curriculum development in Indonesian schools.

Abstract

Shariah law and Islamic finance have emerged as powerful tools for promoting economic empowerment, particularly in rural areas where poverty and financial exclusion are prevalent. In Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, Islamic finance offers unique opportunities to address economic disparities and foster inclusive growth. This study examines the role of Shariah law and Islamic finance in empowering rural communities in Indonesia, focusing on their impact on poverty alleviation, financial inclusion, and sustainable development. The research aims to identify the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing Islamic finance in rural areas and propose strategies for enhancing its effectiveness. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study combines quantitative analysis of socio-economic data with qualitative interviews with rural communities, Islamic financial institutions, and policymakers. Data were analyzed to assess the impact of Islamic finance on income levels, access to financial services, and community development. The findings reveal that Islamic finance, particularly through instruments such as zakat, waqf, and microfinance, has a positive impact on economic empowerment in rural areas. However, challenges such as lack of awareness, limited infrastructure, and regulatory gaps hinder its full potential. The study concludes that enhancing the role of Shariah law and Islamic finance in rural Indonesia requires targeted strategies, including education, infrastructure development, and regulatory reforms.

Abstract

Background. The integration of Virtual Reality (VR) into educational settings has gained global momentum, offering immersive and interactive learning experiences that traditional methods often lack. In South Korea, where academic rigor and technological innovation coexist, there is a growing interest in leveraging VR to enhance science education at the secondary level. Purpose. This study investigates the implementation of VR in science classrooms across selected South Korean high schools, focusing on its pedagogical effectiveness, accessibility, and acceptance among teachers and students. Method. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining quantitative survey data from 312 students and 45 science teachers with qualitative insights from focus group interviews and classroom observations. Results. The findings reveal that VR-based instruction significantly increased student engagement, conceptual understanding, and motivation in learning complex scientific phenomena. However, challenges were noted in terms of teacher training, infrastructure limitations, and curriculum alignment. Conclusion. The study concludes that while VR holds strong potential to transform science education in South Korean high schools, successful implementation requires systemic support, including professional development and policy integration. These insights contribute to the ongoing discourse on future-ready STEM education and provide practical guidance for scalable VR adoption.
