Abstract

This community service activity aims to encourage the development of Dayun Watermelon as a superior regional product while providing legal protection through the Geographical Indication (GI) scheme as a form of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Dayun Watermelon has unique taste, quality, and cultivation techniques that are passed down from generation to generation, so it has the potential to become a regional asset with high economic and cultural value. The implementation was conducted through socialization regarding the importance of IPR protection, technical training in preparing Geographical Indication documents, mentoring farmer groups in building institutions, and facilitating cooperation with local governments and related stakeholders. The results indicate an increase in farmer and community understanding regarding the benefits of Geographical Indication protection, the formation of a collective understanding to maintain product quality, and the initial steps in preparing IPR application documents. This activity is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Dayun Watermelon, improve farmer welfare, and protect local identity through a sustainable IPR protection system.

Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is now part of the education process. It can explain material, give practice, and answer questions at almost no cost. This raises a question: can providers survive as businesses? The study asks how AI changes their business models, what it disrupts for learners, and what strategies help them adapt. Using a systematic literature review based on PRISMA 2020, the study searched the Springer Nature Link database with nine keyword sets for 2019 to 2026 and analysed 36 of 1,258 records. The review finds four ways AI changes business models: turning data and content into income-earning assets, automating cost and labour, uneven change across institutions, and new market structures. Disruption is real but only partial. Services that mainly transfer knowledge are hit first, while formal providers face a crisis over the trust placed in their assessment and a loss of control over data and content to technology vendors. Based on the dynamic capabilities view, survival comes from how fast providers sense change, seize new value, and reshape their model, not from owning assets. For managers, the main task is to close the speed gap with vendors and rethink what they offer, instead of leaning on defensive rules. In short, survival depends on how fast a provider can move its value to things AI cannot copy.

Abstract

This community service program was carried out by students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau, through the FISIP Berdampak untuk Negeri (FBN) scheme in Bencah Lesung Village, Tenayan Raya District, Pekanbaru City, an area of about 10.10 km2 inhabited by 10,718 residents across 10 neighbourhood units (RW) and 39 sub-neighbourhood units (RT). The program aimed to design and install a village map and area layout as a public information medium to help residents, village officials, and visitors identify administrative boundaries, road networks, and public facilities. The method consisted of field observation, coordination with the village office to collect boundary and facility data, map design and verification, printing of a 150 cm x 100 cm map on durable material, and installation at a strategic location in front of the village office. All four planned indicators, namely data availability, map design and printing, installation, and improved public access to spatial information, were achieved. The main obstacle, low participation from residents and part of the village apparatus during installation, was resolved through intensive coordination with the head of RW 02 and village officials. The map is expected to support transparent and accountable village governance and can be developed further through periodic data updates or digital (QR code) integration.
