Abstract

The toddler stage is considered a golden period as well as a critical period in human life. The nutritional issues in Indonesia, with a stunting prevalence of 19.8% in 2024, indicate that the development of eating habits greatly influences the growth and development of toddlers in the future. This study aims to examine the relationship between knowledge of feeding rules, children's eating behavior, and maternal characteristics with the nutritional status of toddlers in the working area of Rejosari Public Health Center, Pekanbaru City. This is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of mothers with toddlers, with a total of 62 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The study was conducted from December 2023 to May 2025. The research instruments included questionnaires, and tools used were a weighing scale and stature meter. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test with computer assistance. The results showed a significant relationship between children's eating behavior (p-value = 0.022) and the nutritional status of toddlers. However, there was no relationship between maternal education level (p-value = 0.382), income level (p-value = 0.594), and knowledge about feeding rules (p-value = 0.529) with the nutritional status of toddlers in the Rejosari Public Health Center working area. The role of healthcare professionals in providing continuous education in collaboration with nutritionists needs to be strengthened to help improve the nutritional status of toddlers.

Abstract

Motor coordination in infants is a crucial aspect of growth and development in early childhood. One form of stimulation that can support this development is infant massage. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of infant massage on improving motor coordination in infants aged 6–12 months in the working area of Pulau Gadang Public Health Center, Kampar Regency. The research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, involving 18 infants selected through total sampling. The research was conducted in April-May 2025. The intervention consisted of daily infant massage administered once a day for 8 consecutive days. Motor coordination was assessed using the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP) before and after the intervention. The results showed that the average motor coordination score increased from 8.33 before the intervention to 9.44 after the intervention. Based on the Wilcoxon statistical test, a p-value of < 0.05 was obtained, indicating a significant difference in motor coordination before and after infant massage. Thus, infant massage was proven effective in enhancing motor coordination in infants aged 6–12 months. This study provides important implications for healthcare workers and parents to implement infant massage as part of early childhood developmental stimulation. Moreover, these findings can serve as a reference for developing child growth and development intervention programs at the primary healthcare level. Keywords: Infant massage, motor skill coordination, KPSP

Abstract

Red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) is widely known as a traditional medicinal plant with various health benefits, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidants. However, its use in the community has not been optimal, especially in the form of instant powder products that are more practical and have high economic value. This community service activity aims to empower women in RT 03 RW 01 Kubang Jaya Village, Siak Hulu, Kampar through training in the processing of red ginger instant powder. The implementation method includes socialization, demonstration, and direct practice, ranging from raw material preparation, extraction, cooking, sieving, to packaging and labeling. The results of the activity showed the high enthusiasm of the participants and the ability to produce instant ginger powder independently. This product is not only beneficial for health, but also has the potential to be developed as a household business to increase family income. This activity concluded that community empowerment through herbal processing training is effective in increasing knowledge, skills, and creativity while encouraging the use of local natural resources.
