Abstract

Abstract

The phenomenon of hate speech has become a global epidemic in the digital era, spreading at an extraordinary speed through social media platforms such as Facebook, X, WhatsApp, TikTok, and Instagram. This is a crucial problem that requires a solution to prevent social disintegration in society. The purpose of this article is to identify and examine the normative relevance of hadith as an ethical and practical response to hate speech through the hermeneutics of Muhammad al-Ghazali's hadith. This type of research is qualitative with a phenomenological analysis approach. Primary data sources come from hadith books and secondary data from related journals and books. Data were collected through observation and document study techniques and analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that al-Ghazali did not view hadith merely as literal texts, but rather as social ethical doctrines oriented towards the goals of sharia, namely maintaining the welfare of the community. His hermeneutics places hadith as a normative foundation that firmly rejects hate speech, because it is considered contrary to the basic principles of Islam such as unity, justice, and human dignity.

Abstract

This study examines al-Jābirī's interpretive reasoning as an effort to reconstruct the understanding of the Qur'an. Stemming from the inevitability of the dynamics of Qur'anic interpretation and the problems of turats (heritage), this study positions al-Jābirī as a figure who bridges tradition and Western modernity in his thought. This library research employs a biographical study model, with data drawn from written literature, particularly two of al-Jābirī's works on tafsir: Madkhāl ilā al-Qur’ān al-Karīm and Faḥm al-Qur’ān al-Ḥakīm: al-Tafsīr al-Wāḍiḥ Ḥasb Tartīb al-Nuzūl. To delve into al-Jābirī's interpretive thought, a theoretical-objective hermeneutic theory is utilized with two approaches: psychological (understanding al-Jābirī's character through his life background, geographical, socio-political context, and intellectual journey) and linguistic (specifically reading al-Jābirī's works). In his tafsir, al-Jābirī redefines the Qur'an as al-Ẓāhirah al-Qur’āniyyah (the Qur'anic phenomenon), which encompasses timeless, spiritual, and social da'wah elements, rejecting definitions that are ideologically laden and ahistorical. Al-Jābirī's interpretive methodology applies the principles of al-faṣl (separation of the reader from the object of reading for objectivity) and al-waṣl (reuniting the reader with the object of reading for contemporary relevance). Finally, al-Jābirī promotes Tafsir Nuzūlī (chronological interpretation) which emphasizes the logical relationship between the historicity of Muhammad's da'wah journey and the Qur'anic verses as responses, with mapping based on the Meccan and Medinan periods. This aims to make the Qur'an speak and introduce itself, while also remaining relevant to contemporary times.

Abstract

This article examines the mediatization of interpretations of family-related verses on the Instagram account @keluargahamzi in the context of the transformation of interpretive authority on social media. Previous studies on digital interpretation have generally focused on social media da’wah, the “living Qur’an,” and the popularization of religion; however, few have highlighted how media logic shapes the reduction, simplification, and reframing of the meanings of family-related verses in the digital space. This research employs a qualitative content analysis approach using Stig Hjarvard’s framework of religious mediatization, integrated with an epistemological perspective on interpretation. The research data consists of posts from the @keluargahamzi account from 2019 to 2023 that feature family-related verses in the form of images, captions, and video reels. The data were analyzed through a process of thematic categorization, identification of patterns of interpretive simplification, and analysis of the relationship between Instagram’s media features and the construction of verse meanings. The findings reveal that the mediatization of interpretation on the @keluargahamzi account occurs through three primary patterns: the symbolic visualization of verses, the simplification of interpretive contexts, and the normative framing of the Islamic family. First, family-related verses are visually represented through domestic symbols that align with Instagram’s aesthetic logic. Second, interpretations tend to emphasize literal meanings and practical moral lessons while downplaying historical dimensions, asbāb al-nuzūl, and the complexity of classical exegesis. Third, Instagram features such as Reels, captions, and hashtags function as tools for meaning production as well as new digital interpretive authorities. This study demonstrates that social media not only serves as a channel for disseminating interpretations but also shapes how verses are understood, negotiated, and popularized within the digital public sphere.

Abstract

This research aims to deconstruct the phenomenon of hyper-independence that massively affects Generation Z within the contemporary digital ecosystem. As digital natives, Generation Z often falls into the trap of extreme self-reliance, which is regarded as a personal achievement but sociologically triggers the disintegration of social capital and societal atomization. The primary issue raised is how technological independence paradoxically creates emotional distance and social apathy toward real-world suffering. Utilizing a qualitative method based on library research and a Social Interpretation (al-tafsir al-ijtima’i) approach, this study positions Surah Al-Ma’un as a theological framework to address this solidarity crisis. The analysis is conducted by creating a dialogue between the Quranic text and digital sociological theories regarding social ties and atomization. The results show that Surah Al-Ma’un offers a radical critique of "religious individualism" by categorizing those who separate prayer rituals from social sensitivity as deniers of the faith. This study finds novelty in the reinterpretation of the term al-ma'un, which in the digital era is no longer limited to simple material aid but has transformed into "collaborative assets" encompassing information literacy, emotional support, and digital resource accessibility for marginalized groups. The research formulates the Inclusive Social Piety model, which integrates three main pillars: spiritual interconnection awareness, digital altruism, and empowering independence. This model functions as a solution to transform the narcissistic "I" paradigm into a collaborative "We" paradigm. In conclusion, the internalization of Al-Ma’un's values acts as a bridge between the personal advancement of Generation Z and their collective responsibility, serving as a basis for character strengthening in Islamic higher education to remain functional and responsive to human problems in the era of disruption.

Abstract

The study discusses the phenomenon of the Living Qur'an in the burial of the deceased. Using the Living Qur'an approach, which focuses on the community's understanding of the readings they often use in a practice called mappasuru, the researcher used observation and interview methods and techniques as well as documentation, namely collecting data through field observations and discussions with mappasuru practitioners. The main sources are the results of interviews and observations, supported by relevant journals that discuss the issues in general. The results of the study on the Living Qur'an phenomenon in the practice of burying the dead in Tampumia Village show that: first, the mappasuru’ procedure begins when the body is lowered into the grave until the coffin is closed. Second, the recitations used are Q.S al-Fatihah/1:1-7, QS Taha/20:55, QS al-Fajr/89:27-28. Q.S Quraisy/106:1-1 and Q.S al-Ikhlas/112:1-1. Third, this study shows a shift in the function of the Qur'an from textual-informative meaning to performative meaning. In the practice of mappasuru, the community prioritizes the sacredness and efficacy of the ritual (benefits) of the verse over the accuracy of its literal meaning. This implies that in contemporary Qur'anic studies, the authority of the text lives not only through the interpretations of scholars, but also through its functional reception within the community.
