We conducted an online survey using snowball sampling techniques. The online survey collected information about demographic data, information provision of COVID-19, health prevention behaviors, and feelings of anxiety and happiness. This study involved 3,686 participants in Indonesia in the period from 2nd of April to 4th of April 2020. We found that the most frequent source of information reported was social media. The majority of participants were satisfied with the amount of information provided (98%), however 54% of the participants reported that no information or very little information about the screening/test and the treatment of COVID-19 was provided. The most frequent protective behaviour was implemented cough attitude, avoided handshake, and applied physical distancing. High exposure of Information about COVID-19 and doing preventive measures were associated with greater anxiety. Nonetheless, some preventive measures appeared to be positively associated with feelings of happiness. Our results give an indications about the information provision, application of preventive measure and the factors associated with feelings of anxiety and happiness.

Abstract

Perception of Stigmatization by Others for Seeking Help (PSOSH) digunakan untuk mengukur persepsi stigmatisasi dan intensi pencarian bantuan diukur menggunakan Mental Help Seeking Intention Scale (MHSIS).

Abstract

Abstract

Many college students with mental health problems do not seek help. One of the predisposing factors that influences mental health help-seeking is personality traits. This study aims to explore the role of such traits in the mental health help-seeking intention of college students. It is a cross-sectional study using the correlational method. An online survey employing convenience sampling technique was completed by 480 participants. The survey covered demographic data, the Big Five Inventory, and a mental health help-seeking intention questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multivariate regression analysis. Conscientiousness (b = .170, p-value = .000) was significantly associated with a higher intention to seek mental health help. Higher neuroticism also predicted higher mental health help-seeking intentions (b = .165, p-value = .001). On the other hand, openness, extraversion, and agreeableness did not predict such intentions. The results suggest that personal disposition could affect help-seeking intentions and that certain personality traits had more impact on these. It is hoped that the results will contribute to providing better mental health support for students and promote help-seeking.

Abstract

The use of the internet is inseparable from everyday life. The ease of internet access makes many people, especially students, at risk of overusing the internet. However, excessive internet use can hurt mental health such as increased levels of stress, anxiety and depression. Previous studies have shown that positive religious coping can positively impact mental health. The purpose of this study was to determine the moderating role of positive religious coping on the relationship between internet overuse and mental health. This study used moderation analysis and tested three models. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling. The participants of this study were 147 undergraduate students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung. This study used three measuring instruments, namely the modified GPIUS-2, religious coping scale and DASS-21 (Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21). The results showed that there was no positive moderating role of religious coping on the relationship between problematic internet use and mental health in the student sample. In addition, the correlation results showed that problematic internet use was positively associated with depression, anxiety and stress. In the college student sample, positive religious coping was not significantly related to mental health. This study implies that there is a need to develop psychoeducation that aims to teach practical solutions so that individuals can use the internet wisely. Future research can consider other variables such as other types of coping.

Abstract

Abstract

Human activities exacerbate environmental degradation and climate change. Pro-environmental behavior can help mitigate these effects, and intention is a key predictor of such behavior. This study examined the associations between basic values and intentions to engage in pro-environmental behavior among university students. An online survey was conducted with 127 students using the Indonesian version of the Portrait Values Questionnaire (PVQ-40) and a pro-environmental behavior intention scale. Universalism and self-direction were weakly and positively correlated with pro-environmental intentions, whereas hedonism and power were weakly and negatively correlated. These findings indicate that basic values are related to pro-environmental intentions, although only selected values showed significant associations. In particular, values within self-transcendence and openness to change were associated with pro-environmental intentions. Interventions that seek to strengthen pro-environmental behavior should therefore foster concern for others, concern for nature, and openness to new ideas.
