Abstract

Patients with a chronic kidney disease encounter medical as well as psychological problems. They have to adjust to the daily changes in life as consequences of the required treatment. The need to take medication regularly, hemodialysis treatment, and reduce mobility because of limitation of physical abilities may cause distress and often impact on their self-esteem. This study aimed to investigate the correlation of self-esteem to quality of life on patients with chronic kidney disease who undergo hemodialysis. The study population is patients who join “Komunitas Hidup Ginjal Muda”, a community of young people with kidney disease in the social media (Facebook) which has 371 members. The incidental sampling technique was applied and resulted in 34 patients joined the study as study participants. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form (version 1.3) were used to collect data. The results of product moment correlation analysis showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between self-esteem and quality of life among chronic kidney disease patients who undergo hemodialysis (r = .417; p = .014).

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to descriptively identify parents’ perception of subjective well-being in children with ADHD. Qualitative research method was performed with a sample of 18 parents (15 mothers, 3 fathers). Data analysis was using thematic analysis. The results of this study indicate that children with ADHD in general, based on the perceptions of parents, show that children with ADHD are generally not wellbeing, but there are those who claim to be well-being and some say that some are sometimes well-being and other times they feel less wellbeing. Children feel wellbeing when their needs are met, they get environmental support, there is no negative stigma. Children feel less well-being because of the lack of acceptance of the child's condition, the existence of a negative stigma, the child still behaves negatively, and their needs are not fulfilled. Parents play a role in helping optimize children's well-being by conditioning the environment, children and parents themselves, and surrendering to God to better suit the needs of children with ADHD.

Abstract

Medical co-assistants are at significant risk during the COVID-19 pandemic due to exposure to more substantial stressors, including handling patients, academic pressure, and reduced rest times. Moreover, their continuous exposure to disease during the COVID-19 pandemic places them in significant psychological distress. These challenges can potentially affect their subjective well-being. Effective stress management strategies are imperative to reduce susceptibility to adverse consequences. Resilience has been identified as a key protective factor against the detrimental impact of stress. A study involving 102 medical students who became co-assistants during the COVID-19 pandemic investigated the relationship between resilience, stress, and subjective well-being among medical co-assistants. The study found that resilience among medical co-assistants in Indonesia was negatively correlated with stress and negative affect, and positively correlated with life satisfaction, positive affect, and affective balance in subjective well-being. Resilience plays a crucial role in helping individuals recover from challenges and failures, viewing these setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. This positive outlook contributes to increased positive affect and enhances their subjective well-being. Ultimately, this lowers their stress levels and reduces negative aspects that may impede their performance as medical co-assistants.

ABSTRACT: One of the reasons smokers struggle to quit smoking is psychological dependence, which fosters a false belief that cigarettes help alleviate stress and anxiety. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in reducing psychological dependence on cigarettes among university students. The participants consisted of three students who struggled to reduce their smoking dependence, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND), interviews, and observations. After six CBT sessions, FTND scores decreased from high and moderate levels to low levels among the participants. These changes occurred as participants were able to modify their false beliefs about smoking and adopt healthier and more effective coping strategies to manage stress and anxiety, replacing cigarettes as their primary means of coping. Key words: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, smoking cessation, psychological dependence

Abstract

Aims: Preoperative anxiety in school-age children is an important problem for children who will carry out major surgery. When not resolved the problem results in a negative postoperative response such as higher pain, impaired sleep patterns, no appetite and changes in maladaptive behavior over the next two weeks. Pharmacological therapy is not given to psychosocial problems related to anxiety in school-aged children. So, it is necessary to trace the results of research related to non-pharmacological therapy. One of the non-pharmacological therapies used is Hypnotherapy. This study aims to analyze the effect of hypnotherapy in reducing anxiety in the preoperative phase by using the Modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (mYPAS) instrument. Hypnotherapy intervention is carried out structurally in the preoperative phase. Methods: This type of research is a Quasy Experiment with a time series design research design through pretest and posttest one group design. The technique used in this study was purposive sampling with 24 samples. Analysis of the data used consisted of univariate and bivariate. Univariates in this study describe the median while bivariate use Wilcoxon. Results: The results of the statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the anxiety test before and after the hypnotherapy intervention was given (p-value 0,0001). Conclusion: Influence of hypnotherapy to reduce the anxiety of school-age children in the preoperative phase in the Guntur room of level II Dustira Cimahi Hospital. Suggestions for nurses are expected to develop science and skills in complementary nursing and can be used as a companion intervention in overcoming preoperative anxiety in children.
