Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease caused by insulin resistance and dysfunction of pancreatic beta cells. The dominant lifestyle factors contributing to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus are dietary patterns and physical activity. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among menopausal women in Medan Estate Village. This study used a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique was total sampling, in which the entire population was included as the research sample. Data analysis was conducted using the Pearson correlation test. The research instrument used an observation sheet. The results showed that there was a relationship between body mass index and the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among menopausal women, with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). This indicates a significant relationship between Body Mass Index and the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in menopausal women. It is expected that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important, including controlling body weight to remain within a normal or ideal range, engaging in regular physical activity, and managing dietary patterns to prevent the occurrence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Abstract

Fractures are conditions where bones break, typically due to trauma or physical force. Several factors, such as the strength and angle of the impact, along with the condition of the bones and surrounding soft tissue, determine the type of fracture—whether it is complete or incomplete. Fractures of the upper extremities are often caused by falls with the arms extended backward. Data from the WHO indicates a significant rise in fracture cases, from 13 million individuals in 2008 to 21 million in 2010. This study aims to identify pain levels in patients who undergo upper extremity fracture surgery before and after using the five-finger relaxation technique. A quantitative research method with an experimental design was employed, measuring pain in 12 patients before and after the relaxation intervention. Analysis using the Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.02 < 0.05, indicating a significant effect of the five-finger relaxation technique on pain reduction. In conclusion, this relaxation technique was found to be effective in decreasing pain levels in patients post upper extremity fracture surgery.

Abstract

Cancer arises from uncontrolled cell growth, and chemotherapy is one of the therapies. This procedure carries the risk of extravasation, which can cause pain, ulcers, necrosis, and even permanent disability. This condition has the potential to trigger trauma and cause patients to discontinue therapy, ultimately hindering treatment success. Safe chemotherapy practices require nurses to be competent in preventing, recognizing, managing, and documenting extravasation incidents. This qualitative study used a phenomenological method at Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital. The sample size was selected using purposive sampling and interviews. This study yielded six themes regarding nurses' experiences in preventing extravasation in chemotherapy patients. It is concluded that this study identified six themes: (1) Dangers of extravasation, (2) Actions to prevent extravasation, (3) Things that can cause extravasation, (4) Ways to overcome extravasation, (5) Barriers to accessing the verifier vein, and (6) Ways to overcome barriers to accessing the verifier vein.
