Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using TikTok social media as a biology learning media at SMA Negeri 1 Rantau Utara. This research uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach, to get an objective picture of how much influence TikTok has in supporting the teaching and learning process, especially in biology subjects. Respondents of this study were 40 people from 10 classes XI SMA Negeri 1 Rantau Utara. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interview, and questionnaire. The research data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the use of TikTok in learning biology was quite effective, with the effectiveness level reaching 56.8%. This shows that more than half of the respondents feel that learning through TikTok provides benefits in understanding biology material. Thus, TikTok has the potential as an alternative learning media that can support the learning process of students in today's digital era. The utilization of social media such as TikTok in education can be a relevant innovation to answer the challenges of 21st century learning.

Abstract

The current blended learning method, which mixes online and traditional classroom instruction, is appropriate for the epidemic. According to various research studies, blended learning benefits students by allowing them to study independently without regard for location or time constraints. This article explores and describes the use of the blended learning paradigm during a pandemic using a meta-analysis technique. The objective is to determine the effect of blended learning on learning outcomes; according to the conclusions of a research released in 2021 based on ten published articles, employing the blended learning approach greatly improved learning outcomes during the pandemic, with an effect size value of 1.21. However, the outcomes of this study suggest that publication bias exists as a result of an unbalanced distribution of effect sizes.Keywords: blended learning, pandemic, meta-analysis DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v22i2.pp270-278

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan melihat apakah ada peningkatan hasil belajar siswa menggunaan Pendekatan Saintifik. Pendekatan Saintifik merupakan pendekatan yang digunakan dalam pendidikan lewat proses ilmiah yang dicoba lewat kegiatan mengamati, menanya, berupaya, menalar, serta mengkomunikasikan. Siswa yang memiliki nilai hasil belajar rendah umumnya disebabkan karena ketidak mampuan mereka mengerjakan matematika bagaimanapun usaha mereka. Semakin mereka berusaha untuk menjawab pertanyaan guru atau soal yang diberikan mereka semakin mereka merasakan pusing. Sehingga ketika menghadapi soal mereka lebih memilih untuk melihat pekerjaan teman, atau bahkan tidak mengerjakan soal tersebut sama sekali dan mempersiapkan diri untuk menerima hukuman atau sanksi dari guru. Populasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP N 2 Bila Hulu. Mengetahui seberapa besar peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam representasi menyelesaian soal setelah menggunakan pembelajaran dengan Pedekatan Saintifik.Rata-rata nilai hasil belajar siswa sebelum dan sesudah adanya penerapan dimana nilai rata-rata pre-test eksperimen adalah 42.56 dan pre-test kontrol adalah 50.56% menjadi 79.16% untuk post-test eksperimen dan 71.44% untuk post-test kontrol. Kesimpulan hasil penelitian ini adalah nilai hasil belajar siswa dengan menggunakan pendekatan saintifik lebih baik, dari kemampuan siswa saat melaksankan pembelajaran konvensional siswa SMP VIII Negeri 2 Bilahulu. Dengan hasil presentasi  pembelajaran eksperimen menggunakan pendekatan saintifik 36.60% dan kelas kontrol adalah sebasar 20.88%.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of teacher barriers and the optimization of teaching aids on students’ conceptual understanding of biology at SMA Negeri 1 Panai Hulu. This quantitative research employed a survey method using questionnaires administered to 140 students. The research instruments were validated and found to be reliable, with Cronbach’s Alpha values ranging from 0.845 to 0.900. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression after meeting all classical assumption tests. The results indicate that teacher barriers have a significant effect on conceptual understanding (p = 0.017), while the optimization of teaching aids shows a stronger and highly significant effect (p = 0.000) with the highest beta value (β = 0.499). Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence students’ conceptual understanding, as reflected by an F-value of 14.866 and an R² value of 0.178, indicating that teacher barriers and teaching aids optimization explain 17.8% of the variance in students’ conceptual understanding. These findings emphasize the importance of improving teacher competence and optimizing the use of teaching aids as key strategies to enhance biology conceptual understanding in secondary education.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze students’ perceptions of biology learning based on the school surrounding environment at HAS Sepakat Negeri Lama Private Senior High School, Labuhanbatu. This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey design. The participants were 60 Grade X students from two classes, selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire consisting of 15 items covering cognitive, affective, and conative dimensions. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed that students’ perception scores ranged from 3.63 to 4.28, falling within the high to very high categories. These findings indicate that students perceived environment-based biology learning as beneficial, relevant, and engaging. The Mann–Whitney U test showed no significant difference in students’ perceptions between the two classes (p = 0.382), suggesting relatively similar learning experiences across groups. Overall, environment-based biology learning can support contextual and meaningful learning by connecting biological concepts with real environmental phenomena. These findings provide practical implications for biology teachers in designing learning strategies that utilize the surrounding environment as an authentic learning resource and contribute to the development of contextual learning in biology education.

Abstract

The oil palm empty fruit bunches are solid waste produced from the processing of oil palms which have a large amount of potential to be used as compost and are expected to improve the physical, biological and chemical properties of the subsoil. This study aimed to evaluate the best combination between oil palm empty fruit bunches compost and rice husk charcoal on soil chemical properties in tomato. This research was conducted in Sona Village, Labuhanbatu Regency on December 2019-March 2020. Analysis of soil chemical properties was conducted at the Socfindo Seed Production and Laboratories (SSPL) Laboratory of PT. Socfin Indonesia. The study was conducted with a factorial randomized block design with 2 factors. The first factor was the application of oil palm empty bunches which consists of no oil palm empty bunches (control), 0.5 kg/polybag, 0.7 kg/polybag and 1 kg/polybag. The second factor was the application of rice husk charcoal which consists of non-husk charcoal (control), consisting of 0.2 kg/polybag and 0.4 kg/polybag. Data that had a significant effect after analysis of variance continued with DMRT at the level of α = 5%. The results showed that application of oil palm empty fruit bunches (0.7 kg/polybag) significantly increased pH and C-organic. Application of rice husk charcoal (0.2 kg/polybag) significantly increased C-organic and P-available.
