Abstract

The world's growing population is increasing the need for land, prompting the conversion of productive agricultural land into non-agricultural purposes. This has led to a shift in agricultural development to sub-optimal lands, such as tidal swamplands. However, several problems arise along the way, including water management. A good water management network is necessary for supporting efficient water use. This study aims to analyze the water system network on tidal swamps to support agricultural activities. The survey and field observation methods were used to collect data. The results showed that the water system in Telang Karya Village, P87S, Banyuasin, South Sumatra, experienced sedimentation in the tertiary channel. In channel 3, the thickness of sediment reached 72 cm, resulting in silting, which reduces water discharge. Field observations revealed that sedimentation occurs due to the channels being overgrown by wild plants. This hampers the water flow, causing it to slow down or even stop. In some tertiary channels, the watergate operation needs to be carried out optimally. Maintaining the ideal conditions of tertiary channels is crucial, and watergate operations should be performed based on the needs of the plants.

Abstract

Tanah merupakan bagian dari tubuh alam yang sangat penting bagi seluruh aspek kehidupan makhluk hidup, tanpa terkecuali. Bagi tanaman tanah merupakan media tumbuh dan sumber nutrisi untuk menunjang pertumbuhan dan perkembangan tanaman. Tamanan dapat tumbuh dan berkembang dengan baik jika memiliki sifat tanah yang baik pula. Lahan rawa pasang surut merupakan lahan sub-optimal dengan banyak faktor pembatas salah satunya adalah kemasaman tanah. Analisis sifat tanah menjadi salah satu kunci untuk mengetahui potensi lahan dalam pengembangan lahan pertanian tak terkecuali pada lahan rawa pasang surut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui sifat kimia tanah pada lahan pasang surut tipe A, Desa Telang Karya, P87S, Banyuasin. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode survei dan obsevasi. Sampel tanah diambil menggunakan metode purposif sampling sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pH tanah pada lokasi penelitian cenderung masam (4,25 – 4,94), kandungan C-Oranik cenderung tinggi dan kandungan N-Total yang rendah. Upaya pengelolaan yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengembangkan lahan rawa pasang surut agar layak untuk kegiatan pertanian adalah dengan cara pemberian amelioran dan pengelolaan air yang tepat.

Abstract

As a growing medium, soil plays a crucial role in supporting the growth and development of plants on its surface. Analyzing soil properties is a necessary preliminary step before planting. pH (Potential of Hydrogen) is one of the essential soil properties that supports plant growth and development. Soil pH conditions can affect the availability of nutrients in the soil and the level of nutrient uptake by plants. The methods used in this research are survey and field observation. Sampling points were determined through spatial analysis using ArcMap 10.8. Soil sampling was conducted using the grid sampling method with a 20x20 m plot. The results of the study indicate that land use has an impact on soil pH conditions. Open land has the lowest soil pH compared to other land uses. Strategies that can be implemented to increase soil pH include: the application of soil amendments, practicing minimum tillage, and increasing land cover.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of crop rotation and compost use on organic carrot production yield in Rejang Lebong District. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 60 organic carrot farmers through a structured questionnaire with a Likert scale (1–5). The data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 to examine the effects of these practices on yield. The findings reveal that both crop rotation and compost use have significant positive effects on organic carrot yields, with compost use showing the strongest influence. A synergistic effect was observed when both practices were combined, leading to improved soil health, nutrient availability, and pest management. The study highlights the importance of integrating sustainable agricultural practices to optimize organic carrot production. These insights are valuable for farmers, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders aiming to enhance productivity while maintaining sustainability.

Abstract

Cocoa plants are plantation crops, one of the export commodities that can contribute to efforts to increase Indonesia’s foreign exchange. This research aims to determine the type of storage media, storage time and treatment interactions on the germination response of cocoa seeds. The research was carried out in Madang Village, Sumber Harta District, Musi Rawas Regency from February-March 2024. The research method used a Completely Randomized Factorial Design, the observation data was  analyzed using R-Studio software. If the results of the variance test are significant at the 5% level, mean that the treatment shows a significant or very significant effect, then it will be continued with high significancy different test (HSD). The first factor consists of the type of storage media: without treatment (M0), sawdust storage media (M1), wood charcoal powder storage media (M2), and rice husk storage media (M3), the second factor is length of storage time: without treatment (W0), stored for 5 days (W1), stored for 10 days (W2), stored for 15 days (W3) and repeated 3 times. Based on the results of the research, sawdust storage media treatment had a significant effect on: germination at age 1-10 days and 11-20 days, root length, leaf length and leaf area; without storage  treatment had a significant effect on: at age 1-10 days and 11-20 days, root length, leaf length, and leaf area.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity aims to improve the quality of rubber farmers' bokar in Lorok Village, Ogan Ilir, through effective tapping techniques, controlling white root fungus with Trichoderma sp, and using recommended coagulants. The implementation took place from September to December 2025 in Lorok Village, Ogan Ilir. The targets are for rubber farmers, rubber collectors, and Lorok Village officials. The activity began with a Forum Group Discussion and interviews to identify the problems of rubber farmers in Lorok Village, then preparing socialization materials, training and coaching designs, as well as pre- and post-activity evaluations; socialization, demonstrations, and mentoring; and analyzing Bokar results as an evaluation of the implementation of efforts to improve the quality of Bokar that were socialized. From the results of the activity, it was found that rubber farmers in Lorok Village can produce high-quality bokar if they apply effective tapping techniques, select recommended coagulants, and control JAP with Trichoderma sp. By carrying out this activity, farmers believe they will be able to increase their income by selling high-quality bokar at competitive selling prices for industrial needs.

Abstract

Geomorphological variability strongly influences soil fertility conditions in tropical lowland environments and plays an important role in determining the potential for rice expansion. This study evaluated geomorphological controls on soil fertility across potential areas for rice expansion in Makroman, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, using a pedogeomorphic approach. Geomorphic units were delineated through visual interpretation of satellite imagery, field observations, and DEMNAS-derived elevation data. The study area was classified into four major geomorphic units: floodplains, undulating plains, rolling plains, and slopes. Soil fertility characteristics, including soil pH, soil organic carbon (SOC), and cation exchange capacity (CEC), were obtained from field-based soil observations and laboratory analyses across representative geomorphic units. The results revealed a clear fertility gradient across geomorphic units associated with dominant geomorphic processes. Floodplain environments exhibited the highest pH (5.8), SOC (1.7%), and CEC (32.4 cmol(+) kg⁻¹), whereas slopes showed lower pH (4.9), SOC (0.8%), and CEC (27.3 cmol(+) kg⁻¹). Intermediate conditions were observed in undulating and rolling plains, reflecting transitional redistribution and runoff-dominated processes. Depositional environments favored the accumulation of fine particles, organic matter, and exchangeable base cations, while erosional and leaching processes progressively reduced nutrient retention in elevated landscapes. These findings demonstrate that soil fertility variability in tropical lowlands is controlled not only by geomorphic position but also by the dominant geomorphic processes operating across the landscape. The study highlights the importance of geomorphology-based approaches for supporting sustainable rice expansion and land management in tropical agricultural environments.
