Abstract

This research investigates the causes and mitigation strategies for tanker ship berthing delays at the PERTAMINA Refinery Unit II Dumai special terminal. The study identifies key issues including dock capacity limitations, adverse weather conditions, insufficient land tank storage, and restrictions on night-time berthing. Data were collected through qualitative research and descriptive analysis involving observations, interviews, and documentation from August 2023 to August 2024. Findings reveal that limited dock capacity and adverse weather significantly contribute to delays, while storage limitations and night-time restrictions further exacerbate the problem. The research highlights the need for dock capacity expansion, improved weather forecasting, enhanced storage management, and safe night-time operational practices. Recommendations include infrastructure upgrades, advanced technological investments, and flexible operational strategies to address these challenges. The study provides valuable insights for improving terminal efficiency and offers a foundation for future research and practical applications in maritime logistics

Abstract

This research employs a qualitative approach to investigate how corporate brand image shapes the quality of maritime services, using a comprehensive stakeholder perspective within the Indonesian shipping industry. The study adopts PT. Multi Jaya Samudra’s TB. Maiden Central operations as its focal case, gathering insights from maritime professionals, academic experts, and industry practitioners to better understand the interconnection between brand perception and service delivery. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 65 participants, followed by a thematic analysis to identify emerging patterns. The results highlight that corporate brand image plays a substantial role in influencing how service quality is perceived, with a positive correlation of 79.8% found between brand strength and customer satisfaction. Key themes emerging from the analysis include the enhancement of professional trust, the incorporation of educational elements into industry practices, and the promotion of operational excellence. A robust and reputable brand is shown to provide shipping companies with a distinct competitive edge, while also aligning with broader objectives such as sustainable maritime growth and the adoption of digital innovation. Beyond practical business value, the research enriches the field of maritime business management by presenting a stakeholder-driven framework for brand development, offering opportunities for the integration of industry-relevant curricula in maritime vocational education, and promoting sustainable transportation practices. These findings yield actionable implications for Indonesian shipping enterprises that aim to strengthen brand positioning, improve service performance, and remain competitive in an increasingly dynamic and environmentally conscious maritime sector.

Abstract

PERTAMINA Refinery Unit II Dumai is located in the Riau Islands region. The objectives of this research are (1). To find out the obstacles that occur when berthing ships at the special terminal PERTAMINA Refinery Unit II Dumai and (2). To find out the efforts made to overcome obstacles that occur when berthing ships at the special PERTAMINA Refinery Unit II Dumai terminal. This research was carried out at PT. PERTAMINA Refinery Unit II Dumai, this research was carried out from August 2023 to August 2024. The data source was obtained through descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach, with data collection analysis techniques based on the results of observation and documentation. The research results show that the implementation of the tanker berthing process at the special PERTAMINA Refinery Unit II Dumai terminal is still experiencing delays. There are several problems that cause delays, including only 1 jetty capacity so you have to queue, weather that does not allow for the docking process, smaller land tank capacity, and the inability to carry out the docking process at night.

Abstract

Kegagalan start pada main generator kapal merupakan masalah serius yang dapat mengganggu operasi pelayaran dan meningkatkan risiko kecelakaan di laut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan analisis mendalam terhadap faktor-faktor penyebab kegagalan start pada Main Generator di MV Seagreen No. 5, serta untuk memahami dampaknya terhadap fungsi sistem navigasi dan potensi risiko navigasi. Selain itu, kami menyelidiki dampak langsung dari kegagalan start Main Generator terhadap operasi sistem navigasi kapal, seperti gangguan pada radar, GPS, dan peralatan navigasi lainnya, serta potensi risiko navigasi seperti penurunan kemampuan manuver kapal dan peningkatan risiko tabrakan dengan objek lain di laut

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk Untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan tugas dan tanggung jawab nakhoda terhadap keselamatan kapal KMP. Tuna Tomini serta Untuk mengetahui faktor yang menyebabkan tidak terlaksananya tugas dan tanggung jawab nakhoda terhadap keselamatan kapal KMP. Tuna Tomini.. Penelitian dilaksanalan di Kapal KMP. Tuna Tomini selama 2 bulan dari bulan November - Desember 2022. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Kualitatif Deskriptif dimana peneliti mendapatkana data dari berbagai sumber melalui Penelitian Kepustakaan ( Library Research ) dan Penelitian Lapangan (Field Research). Di lapangan peneliti mengumpulkan data derngan metode wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Jumlah Populasi yang ada di Kapal KMP. Tuna Tomini berjumlah 75 Crew. Yang diambil sebagai sample sebanyak 50 responden karena keterbatasan waktu. Hasil penelitian Hasil bahwa, Tugas dan Tanggung jawab terhadap keselamatan kapal KMP. Tuna Tomini merupakan tanggung jawab Nakhoda, Nakhoda bisa lolos dari tanggung jawab itu hanya jika bisa dibuktikan sebaliknya, seorang Nakhoda kapal juga dapat di mintai tanggung jawab perdata jika terjadi kecelakaan kapal di manapun akibat kelalaian Nakhoda, Faktor yang menyebabkan tidak terlaksananya tanggung jawab Hukum Nakhoda Kapal disebabkan oleh faktor internal meliputi kurangnya kompetensi dan skill serta mental dan disiplin yang kurang dalam melaksanakan tugasnya dan kurangnya pemahaman tentang peraturan perundang-undangan pelayaran, dan kurangnya pengawasan dari pihak yang berwenang terhadap pelanggaran keselamatan pelayaran, faktor eksternal yaitu pengaruh cuaca buruk sehingga mengakibatkan kurangnya konsentrasi nakhoda dalam mengambil keputusan.

Abstract

: Azimuth Stern Drive atau yang sering di sebut ASD Tug yang merupakan kapal tunda dengan sistem propulsion yang dapat berputar 360° (derajat) tempat penulis bekerja sebagai Master di kapal tersebut. Propulsion utamanya terdiri dari dua unit azimuth propeller yang dapat berputar 360°, sehingga kapal memiliki olah gerak yang sangat cepat dan aman. Jenis dari sistem propulsion ini memiliki tingkat olah gerak kapal efisien yang sangat tinggi, demikian juga dengan tingkat kebisingan mesin (noise) dan getaran yang relative rendah. Sistem dari pada ASD ini menggunakan beberapa jenis sistem propulsi yang di pakai tergantung dari jenis pabrikannya, diantaranya ada yang mengunakan sistem Schottel, Aquamaster, Wartsila, Z-peller, MW Rolls-Royce dan lain sebagainya, yang mana dari semua sistem tersebut ada yang mengunakan baling-baling tetap tanpa perubahan sudut kemiringan daun baling-baling terhadap poros (Fix Propeller) dan ada yang mengunakan sistem CPP (Controllable Pitch Propeller) di mana daun baling-baling dapat dikontrol perubahan sudut kemiringan daun baling-baling terhadap poros. Kapal ASD Tug pada awalnya hanya digunakan khusus untuk bekerja di area pelabuhan untuk melayani aktifitas seperti, berthing, unberthing, docking dan undocking.

Abstract

This study investigates the development of marine engineering literacy focusing on emerging green propulsion technologies including LNG, methanol, ammonia fuel systems, and hybrid electric propulsion. The research examines how marine engineering curricula can effectively integrate alternative fuel technology knowledge while maintaining traditional thermodynamic and mechanical engineering foundations. Through curriculum analysis and competency assessment across maritime academies, the study identifies critical literacy components required for future marine engineers to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sustainable propulsion systems. The research addresses the urgent need for skilled marine engineers capable of supporting the maritime industry's transition toward IMO 2050 decarbonization targets. Findings offer comprehensive recommendations for updating marine engineering education to encompass green technology literacy.

Abstract

The maritime industry's transition toward IMO 2050 decarbonization targets demands a fundamental transformation in marine engineering education to address alternative fuel systems and hybrid propulsion technologies. This qualitative study examines competency development requirements through the perspectives of industry experts, maritime academy lecturers, and recent marine engineering graduates across Indonesian maritime institutions. Employing thematic analysis and cross-group comparisons, the research identifies critical literacy components encompassing LNG, methanol, and ammonia fuel systems; hybrid electric propulsion; alternative fuel safety protocols; and green technology maintenance competencies. Findings reveal significant gaps between industry requirements and current curricula, particularly in practical training infrastructure, faculty expertise, and troubleshooting skill development. The study proposes a comprehensive competency framework integrating green technology literacy with traditional thermodynamic foundations, emphasizing faculty development, industry partnerships, and phased curriculum integration. Results demonstrate that strategic coordination across institutional, industry, and policy dimensions is essential for preparing marine engineers capable of supporting maritime decarbonization initiatives while maintaining operational excellence in increasingly complex propulsion systems.
