Abstract

Several efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of slicing cassava machine had been conducted. One of them including the development of a prototype cassava slicing machine. This machine has types and classification based on slicing capacity. The purpose of this study was to conduct a machine performance test (verification test, performance test, and ergonomics test), to compare its performance with SNI 0838-1:2014, to analyze the constraints of a vertical cassava slicing machine. A quantitative research approach and descriptive explanatory method were used by observing, measuring, and calculating, the testing of cassava slicing machine. Verification test was to check the suitability of the type and type of engine, motor, transmission type, slicing unit, engine frame, and other supporting components in accordance with the specifications. The performance results of the slicing machine displayed that its capacity was 18.51 kg/hour and performance efficiency of 74.05%. The slicing test obtained an average thickness was 0.73 mm, uniformity level of 64.2%, and damage rate around 9.67%. Ergonomics tests showed that the machine was quite in accordance with the comfort of the operator. There were some obstacles that need evaluations such as the difficulty in adjusting slicing blade, transmission, and technical specifications of the cassava slicing machine. Therefore, the cassava slicing machine needed improvement so that it conforms to the requirements that refer to SNI 0838-1:2014.  Keywords: cassava, performance test, slicing, slicing machine, testing

Abstract

The development of coffee production needs to be supported by technological readiness, so that appropriate agricultural tools and machines (alsintan) are needed in the post-harvest processing of coffee. This study aims to identify the design drawing of a dry coffee grinder, produce a dry coffee grinder, and perform a performance test of the BEJE GLK 20 type dry coffee grinder. The research method used is a qualitative approach using a description method that explores and examines in depth the process activities. dry coffee grinder production. The manufacturing process for the dry coffee grinding machine has been successfully carried out by following the design that has been made and the stages in accordance with the machine design rules. The results of the dry coffee grinding power analysis with a power of 0.835 kW (1.12 HP) obtained a coffee grinder tooth capacity of 8.76 kg/hour from a total output capacity of 58.2 kg/hour.

Abstract

Pengupasan bawang merah pada usaha industri kecil masih dilakukan secara manual sehingga memerlukan banyakwaktu dan tenaga. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan mesin pengupas bawang merah yang kebutuhan listriknya rendah dan mudah digunakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan kegiatan pabrikasi mesin pengupas bawang di PT Bahagia Jaya Sejahtera dengan menggunakan konsep desain dan pabrikasi mesin. Alat yang digunakan merupakan peralatan perbengkelan yang menunjang pembuatan mesin pengupas bawang. Adapun bahan yang digunakan adalah pelat baja tahan karat dan besi siku. Proses produksi berlangsung setelah proses desain selesai dan rancangan mesin telah disetujui. Proses produksi meliputi kegiatan pembuatan rumah pencacah, unit pengumpan (inlet), unit pengeluaran (outlet), dan rangka mesin. Setelah itu, semua bagian mesin disusun dan dilakukan kegiatan finishing. Sebelum mesin tersebut didistribusikan, dilakukan uji fungsional alat untuk mengetahui performa mesin tersebut. Hasil uji fungsional dilakukan tanpa beban dan dengan beban. Hasil uji tanpa beban menunjukkan bahwa setiap bagian mesin bekerja dengan baik. Hasil uji fungsional dengan beban menunjukkan bahwa perlu beberapa perbaikan komponen untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mesin pengupas bawang.

Abstract

Shallot peeling activities in small scale industry are still manually done. This process takes huge time and effort. Therefore, shallot dehuller was designed and developed to increase effectivity and efficiency. The objectives of the study were to develop shallot dehuller machine and conduct functional tests. Identification tests indicated workshop tools needed for machine development were grinder, rulers, scales, and various machines such as drilling, welding, roll and bender, and cutting plasma machine. Machine development started from manufacturing the frames, dehuller hopper and inlet, rotating disc, outlet for shallot hull, and outlet for shallot. Functional tests indicated that the machine construction was according to the design plan.

Abstract

The Farmer's Economic Institution (FEI) was formed due to similarities, having the aim of managing their farming business on the basis of togetherness and fulfillment of facilities. The presence of the food estate program provides acceleration in its growth, but does it have a good impact on the performance of the institution. The purpose of this study was to described the institutional performance that supports FEI in food estate locations, analyze the dominant factors that affect FEI in food estate locations and formulate a strategy for operationally developing FEI at food estate locations. This study used a survey method with purposive sampling technique, obtained 40 farmers who are members of farmer institutions supporting the formation of FEI in the food estate of Pulang Pisau, Central Kalimantan. Data collection was carried out from February to May 2022. Data processing used descriptive techniques and Partial Least Square. The results show that the variables that have a strong influence on the institutional character are social aspects and profitability aspects, with the characteristics of its members being having a relatively low level of education and having fairly good business experience with good technical aspects but weak in managerial mastery.

Abstract

This research was aimed to 1) identify the livelihoods structure of farmers household; 2) identify the adaptive mechanism of farmers household (patterns of adaptation). The data were collected by survey method in two villages, Kalianyar and Krangkeng, Indramayu District. There was 90 respondents of farmers household taken by purposive, 40 respondents in Kalianyar and 50 respondents in Krangkeng. Both villages were selected because they are ecologically vulnerable, characterized by drought due to climate variability. This research used livelihoods structure calculation and descriptive analysis method. The results of study showed that farmers households in Kalianyar have a better income and saving capacity than Krangkeng farmers households. To respond the effects of climate variability, farmers households in both villages by using ecological, economic and social adaptation patterns. Adaptation patterns are carried out as a form of farmers household strategies to overcome the adverse effects of climate variability. The livelihood assets used by farmers household in both village greatly influences the ability of farmer household to implement adaptation strategies.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan dalam bentuk pendampingan. Pendampingan ini dilakukan untuk saling belajar bersama antara kampus dan Usaha Pelayanan Jasa Alsintan. Kegiatan dilakukan atas kerjasama antara Usaha Pelayanan Jasa Alsintan Taju Jawa dan Politeknik Pembangunan Pertanian Bogor. Usaha Pelayanan Jasa Alsintan Taju Jawa mengelola alsintan salah satunya adalah traktor roda empat. Usaha Pelayanan Jasa Alsintan Taju Jawa memerlukan pendampingan dalam optimalisasi pemanfaatan traktor roda empat berdasarkan kondisi lahan untuk mencapai hasil optimal. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan dilakukan dalam bentuk pendampingan dalam proses identifikasi lahan, menemukan efisiensi penggunaan traktor terbaik, dan penggunaan traktor roda empat dalam pengolahan lahan. Kegiatan dilakukan dalam bentuk pengumpulan data, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik wawancara, pengamatan, dan telaah dokumen. Pendampingan dan evaluasi menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran sosial. Hasil kegiatan adalah terlaksananya identifikasi lahan yang sesuai untuk operasionalisasi traktor roda empat, efisiensi penggunaan traktor pada luas dan waktu terbaik, dan cara penggunaan traktor roda empat dalam pengolahan lahan yang efektif dan efisien. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan terdapat pengembangan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mahasiswa, dosen, dan pengelola Usaha Pelayanan Jasa Alsintan. Secara keilmuan, mahasiswa dan pengelola Usaha Pelayanan Jasa Alsintan dapat mengembangkan kemampuan mekanisasi pertanian.
