Abstract

This study explores how William Wordsworth addresses and overcomes personal and existential problems in his poem Intimations of Immortality from Early Childhood, a pivotal work in Romantic literature. The poem explores themes of memory, spiritual transcendence, and the transition from childhood to adulthood. There is a gap in understanding how Wordsworth uses them to confront his own struggles. The purpose of this study is to investigate how Wordsworth transforms personal challenges into sources of solace and insight. Through close textual analysis, the study highlights Wordsworth’s use of the divine essence of childhood and nature as stabilizing forces that help him cope with personal loss and disillusionment. The findings suggest that childhood memories and nature offer enduring comfort, providing a philosophical framework for managing life’s difficulties. The study concludes that Wordsworth’s poetry serves as a powerful tool for emotional and spiritual growth, showcasing the transformative power of introspection.

Abstract

This study investigates the difficulties experienced by tenth-grade students in comprehending English texts at SMA Negeri 1 Praya Barat. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the research collected data through classroom observation, structured interviews, and an assessment rubric administered to 37 students. The findings reveal that students encountered major challenges in vocabulary recognition, understanding text content, identifying main ideas, making inferences, and reading fluency. These difficulties stemmed from both internal factors—such as limited vocabulary, low motivation, anxiety, and slow information processing—and external factors, including lack of reading practice, insufficient support from teachers or family, negative prior experiences, and cultural differences within texts. The results suggest that reading comprehension issues are multidimensional, encompassing linguistic, cognitive, affective, and socio-cultural aspects. The study highlights the importance of tailored pedagogical approaches that integrate vocabulary enrichment, motivational strategies, and culturally relevant materials to foster improved reading outcomes..

Abstract

This study investigates the ability of second-grade students at MA Da’watul Khaer Kumbak Luah to use the Passive Voice in the Simple Past Tense and the obstacles they face in the learning process. Employing a descriptive qualitative research design, data were gathered through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Findings reveal that students’ mastery of the Passive Voice in Simple Past Tense is predominantly low to moderate. Students commonly struggle with distinguishing between active and passive structures, selecting appropriate forms of the verb to be, and recalling past participle (V3) forms. Internal challenges include low grammar mastery, minimal motivation, and lack of independent learning, while external factors encompass conventional teaching methods, limited media, and restricted use of technology. The study emphasizes the need for innovative, interactive teaching strategies, contextualized modules, and the integration of technology-based learning tools. These interventions are expected to enhance learners’ competence in constructing and applying Passive Voice structures accurately.
