Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, and hyperuricemia remain major health problems in Indonesia, especially among the elderly. In Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan, hypertension has been reported as the most common NCD among elderly patients in the Lampihong Health Center area, while limited healthcare access in rural villages such as Matang Hanau further increases the risk of late detection and complications. To address this urgent issue, the Community Service Program (KKN) in Matang Hanau Village, Lampihong District, was implemented through a door-to-door health screening strategy aimed at early identification of NCD risk factors. The program involved coordination with village officials, collaboration with Lampihong Health Center and Matang Hanau Sub-Health Center (Pustu), provision of health education, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, and distribution of educational leaflets combined with direct consultation. A total of 258 residents participated, with most elderly showing above-normal blood pressure and blood sugar levels. The program successfully increased community awareness and willingness to undergo routine health checks, highlighting the urgency of strengthening community-based screening as a sustainable approach to reducing the burden of NCDs in Balangan Regency.
