Abstract

The semiconductor sector, pivotal in the global value chain, sees countries like South Korea carving specializations. Notably, South Korea leads in semiconductor memory but relies heavily on Japanese imports, causing significant trade deficits. This dependency became problematic when historical tensions spurred Japan's export restrictions to South Korea, threatening the semiconductor supply chain and bilateral relations. Addressing this between 2019-2021, South Korea invoked Friedrich List's productive power theory, strategizing via infant industry nurturing and forced capital infusion. They launched the K-Semiconductor Strategy, promoting domestic growth to counterbalance import reliance. This proactive stance attracted 510 trillion KRW in investments, including private, foreign, and government subsidies, bolstering the local semiconductor materials sector. The outcome was twofold: reduced import dependence and a demonstration of South Korea's productive power, affirming its capability to sustain and fortify its semiconductor stronghold despite geopolitical strains. This period underscored the criticality of self-reliant industrial advancement in the face of international dynamics and supply vulnerabilities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the tourism communication model of the West Bali National Park (TNBB) in the era of new normal habits. This study uses qualitative methods with observations and interviews conducted to identify Tourism Communication models to support tourism strategies in the era of new normal habits. The results of this study are the TNBB Tourism Communication Model in the New Normal era using a strategy that is not aggressive in nature, this is because the TNBB business entity itself is under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, so that what is done is more on managing the tourist park area. Although not persuasive in its marketing communication strategy, TNBB still communicates tourism through their social media. Researchers also suggest a tourism communication strategy by collaborating the concept of ecotourism with digital technology. The concept of technology-based ecotourism will be one of the novelties in terms of TNBB tourism communication to outsiders or visitors. This concept can be done by improving the official website to be more interactive, providing virtual tours for tourists who may not yet be able to come directly to TNBB.

Abstract

This paper examines the current trajectory of Indonesian Government in protecting the rights of female labour force. The World Bank data shows that female labour participation rate in Indonesia has been rising form 38% in 2015 to 39.3% in 2020. Women has indeed make an essential contributions to economic development in all developing countries. Their roles vary considerably between and within regions and are changing rapidly in many parts of the world, where economic and social forces are transforming the agricultural sector to industrial sector. However this positive outcome is sometimes does not followed by the equal protection of rights toward female labour in Indonesia. Invariably women are over represented in unpaid, seasonal and part-time work, and the available evidence suggests that women are often paid less than men, for the same work. This study employs qualitative and descriptive methods with comprehensive analysis. It will also apply combination of primary and secondary data that will be collected from every sources particularly government official publication. Using the concept of Gender and Development (GAD), the aims of this research is to analyse the current condition of female labour force participation in Indonesia, and also how the Government attempt to protect the rights of female labour as one of the main actor in Indonesia’s economic development from gender point of view. Our projection shows that the Indonesia Government current policy still was not able to provide protection toward female labour force’s rights despite its rising in participation rate.Key words: Gender, Development, Economics, Indonesia, Female Labour Force

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly transformed various aspects of interstate relations, including the practice of economic diplomacy. Traditional diplomatic methods, which relied heavily on direct interactions, have shifted toward digital approaches, including the use of social media. This research analyzes how the Indonesian government utilizes Instagram as a tool for economic diplomacy. The conceptual framework for this study is based on Kishan Rana’s three stages of economic diplomacy in developing countries: salesmanship, networking, and regulatory management (Rana, 2012). Employing a mixed-method approach that combines volume and thematic analysis, the study identifies several key findings. First, Indonesia’s economic diplomacy on Instagram is most active in Asia, with three accounts demonstrating the highest public engagement: the Indonesian embassies in South Korea, Kazakhstan, and Cambodia. In all cases, the involvement of private sectors, either within or in collaboration with the embassies, played a critical role. Second, an analysis of Instagram content patterns reveals that Indonesian representatives primarily focus on network-building activities, with minimal attention given to salesmanship and regulatory management. This indicates that the use of social media for economic diplomacy by Indonesian representatives remains largely an extension of Indonesia’s traditional diplomatic practices, which emphasize building and maintaining networks rather than pursuing broader economic objectives.

Abstract

The culture of irresponsible consumption among students poses a challenge to environmental and social sustainability. The lack of students' understanding of the relationship between consumption and global citizenship is a major issue. The Program for Strengthening Responsible Consumption Culture through Global Citizenship Education at SMA Negeri 10 Malang aims to increase students' awareness and understanding of sustainable consumption. The methods used include material presentations, interactive discussions, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests involving 33 students. The pre-test results showed an average score of 80.91, which increased to 87.88 in the post-test. This improvement indicates that the educational methods applied were effective in enhancing students' understanding. Challenges encountered include low student participation in discussions and a lack of initial understanding. To address these issues, interactive learning methods such as simulations and case studies should be implemented. School and parental support also play a crucial role in fostering a sustainable culture of responsible consumption. The results of this activity demonstrate that global citizenship education can be an effective strategy in shaping a younger generation that is more aware of their social and environmental responsibilities.

Abstract

The longstanding trade relationship between Indonesia and Brazil suggests potential reciprocity in their bilateral interactions, primarily driven by significant trade activities in sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing, which are crucial for robust international cooperation. This study employs the cooperation hexagon concept and uses a descriptive qualitative method to examine the bilateral trade cooperation between Indonesia and Brazil from 2014 to 2021, assessing the reciprocity in the relationship dynamics. The analysis reveals an absence of reciprocity, particularly in the areas of trust and mutual benefits, highlighting a systematic failure to meet crucial cooperation variables. Despite the historical continuity of these relations, the findings emphasize an urgent need for Indonesia to intensify efforts to build more effective cooperation with Brazil. Enhancing this cooperation could leverage mutual benefits and strategic alignments, which are essential for addressing contemporary global challenges and opportunities.

Abstract

Indonesia’s economic diplomacy focuses on three main activities: trade, tourism, and investment. Indonesia has also begun to seek expansion in non-traditional markets such as the Middle East region by conducting economic diplomacy. The Indonesian government receives assistance from the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) in the Middle East Region, specifically ITPC Jeddah, to facilitate the implementation of trade as a component of economic diplomacy activities. However, since COVID-19 hit, conventional diplomacy activities have shifted to digital diplomacy. Various exhibitions are conducted online; even business matching can only be done via teleconference. In addition, ITPC Jeddah has also begun to utilize social media, especially Instagram, to expand and increase awareness of the Middle East community’s superiority of Indonesian trade commodities. Through Kishan Rana’s four stages of economic diplomacy, this research explains how Indonesia’s digital economic diplomacy patterns are reviewed through the ITPC Jeddah Instagram account. This research will later produce how ITPC Jeddah conducts its digital diplomacy and determine whether ITPC has used its social media optimally as a tool for digital economic diplomacy.

Abstract

The development process of the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in heritage tourism has not paid attention to socialization to residents. On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic has also affected its development. With this situation, this research aims to identify the community’s readiness of cultural activists and tourism actors in the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Through the concept of community readiness by searching and analyzing qualitative data, this research finds two important things; first, the community of cultural and tourism activists is still in the readiness level of vague awareness. This model of awareness stems from the distribution of unclear information. The research findings suggest that these communities only get information from gossip among themselves. Second, the COVID-19 pandemic, which slows down the development process, is interpreted as a punishment from God for the SEZ organizers. This interpretation relates to the lack of disclosure of public information regarding the SEZ development process. These two results show that there are symptoms of a crisis in developing sustainable tourism industry.
