Abstract

Family planning programs are important initiatives to improve reproductive health and reduce birth rates through effective contraceptive use. Although the Intrauterine Device (IUD) is a highly effective long-term contraceptive method, its utilization among reproductive-age couples remains low due to limited knowledge, negative perceptions, and insufficient health education. This study aimed to determine the effect of family planning education on the interest of reproductive-age couples in using IUD contraception in Simpang Tiga Village, Hulu Sungai Utara Regency. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. A total of 64 respondents were selected through purposive sampling and received family planning education using audiovisual media. Data were collected using an IUD contraception interest questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that before education, most respondents had low to moderate interest in IUD use, while after education, interest increased to moderate and high categories. The mean score increased from 1.69 to 2.36, with a significant p-value of 0.001. Audiovisual family planning education effectively increased interest in IUD contraception among reproductive-age couples.

Abstract

Early identification of pregnancy warning signs is important to prevent complications during pregnancy. The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) book is an educational resource that helps pregnant women understand pregnancy conditions and recognize danger signs. However, its utilization remains suboptimal and may be influenced by maternal knowledge. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between pregnant women's knowledge of pregnancy danger signs and the utilization of the MCH book at UPTD Puskesmas Tampa. This study used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The research was conducted from March to April 2026 involving 30 pregnant women selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires on pregnancy danger sign knowledge and observation sheets for MCH book utilization. Data analysis used the Chi-square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that most respondents were in the healthy reproductive age category and multiparous. Most pregnant women had limited knowledge (43.3%), while MCH book utilization was categorized as good (56.7%). Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge of pregnancy danger signs and MCH book utilization (p = 0.002). Continuous maternal health education is needed to improve MCH book utilization in antenatal care services.

Abstract

Antenatal care services play an important role in maintaining maternal and fetal health during pregnancy. Regular antenatal visits allow healthcare providers to identify risks and complications early, enabling timely interventions. However, pregnancy complications remain a major concern that may increase maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Adherence to antenatal care visits is considered related to the occurrence of pregnancy complications, as irregular visits may delay the detection and management of problems. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between adherence to antenatal care visits and the occurrence of pregnancy complications among pregnant women at RSUD Tamiang Layang. This study used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The research was conducted in 2025 involving 539 pregnant women selected through total sampling. Data were obtained from maternal medical records and antenatal service documentation. Analysis was performed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that 88.0% of pregnant women adhered to antenatal care visits and 84.4% experienced no pregnancy complications. There was a significant relationship between antenatal care adherence and pregnancy complications (p = 0.021). Continuous education and monitoring are needed to improve maternal health services.

Abstract

Background: Maximising breast milk supply during the postpartum period is crucial for successful exclusive breastfeeding and optimal infant growth and development. Inadequate milk production may be influenced by dietary conditions, hormonal fluctuations, and maternal physiological adaptability. Local nutrient-dense foods may serve as natural galactagogues to support lactation. Nike fish (Awaous melanocephalus), a freshwater species indigenous to Sulawesi, contains high-quality protein, essential amino acids, and omega-3 fatty acids that may support breast milk production. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of Nike fish consumption in increasing breast milk production among postpartum women within the jurisdiction of Tagulandang Primary Health Center. Methods: This pre experimental study employed a one-group pretest–posttest design. Conducted from March to May 2026, the study involved 20 postpartum women selected through total sampling. Breast milk production was assessed using an observation checklist before and after the Nike fish consumption intervention. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and a Paired Sample t-test with SPSS at a 95% confidence level. Results: The mean breast milk production score increased from 5.60 ± 1.14 before intervention to 8.75 ± 0.85 after intervention, with a mean increase of 3.15 points. The Paired Sample t-test showed a statistically significant increase (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Nike fish consumption significantly increased breast milk production and may serve as an economical and culturally appropriate complementary nutritional intervention to support exclusive breastfeeding and maternal and child health.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnancy constitutes a significant public health issue that elevates the likelihood of negative maternal and newborn outcomes. Insufficient understanding of iron requirements, suboptimal eating habits, and inadequate compliance with iron and folic acid supplements are significant contributors to the elevated incidence of maternal anemia. Nutrition education is regarded as an effective health promotion method to enhance preventative behaviors against anemia. This study sought to assess the impact of dietary education on anemia prevention in pregnant women at Passi Barat Primary Health Center. Methods: This research utilized a pre-experimental design incorporating a one-group pretest–posttest methodology. A total of 30 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters were recruited via purposive sampling. The intervention comprised three nutrition education sessions addressing iron requirements during pregnancy, sources of iron-rich foods, proper intake of iron-folic acid pills, and techniques for anemia prevention. Anemia preventive practices were evaluated by a structured questionnaire prior to and following the intervention. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was employed for data analysis at a 95% confidence level. Results: Prior to the intervention, the majority of participants exhibited insufficient anemia prevention practices. Subsequent to the nutrition education session, the percentage of participants exhibiting effective anemia preventive practices significantly rose. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant disparity between pretest and posttest scores (p = 0.001), showing that nutrition education substantially enhanced anemia preventive practices in pregnant women. Conclusion: Nutrition education significantly enhanced anemia preventive behaviors in pregnant women. Incorporating structured nutrition education into standard antenatal care is advised to improve compliance with iron supplementation, encourage healthy food habits, and bolster anemia prevention during pregnancy.

Abstract

The uninterrupted flow of breast milk during the postpartum period is essential for successful breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding. Maternal psychological factors, such as worry, stress, and low self-confidence, may interfere with the milk ejection reflex by reducing oxytocin release. Hypnobreastfeeding is a non-pharmacological approach that uses relaxation, positive affirmations, guided visualization, and light hypnosis to support the lactation process. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of hypnobreastfeeding in improving breast milk flow among postpartum women in the working area of Poigar Primary Health Center. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. Conducted from March to May 2026, the study involved 20 postpartum women selected through total sampling. Breast milk flow was assessed using an observation checklist before and after the hypnobreastfeeding intervention. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test with SPSS at a 95% confidence level. Results: The mean breast milk flow score increased from 5.30 ± 1.12 before the intervention to 8.55 ± 0.94 after the intervention, with a mean increase of 3.25 points. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a statistically significant improvement in breast milk flow (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Hypnobreastfeeding effectively improved breast milk flow among postpartum women. This technique may serve as a safe and effective complementary approach in midwifery care to support successful breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding through primary healthcare services.
