Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls remains a public health problem in Indonesia. The Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) 2023 reported anemia prevalence of 16.3% among those aged 5–14 years and 15.5% among those aged 15–24 years. In South Kalimantan Province, anemia prevalence reached 52.98%, while in Pandawanan Village it was 51.85%. This study aimed to examine the relationship between dietary patterns and compliance with iron tablet consumption and the incidence of anemia among adolescent girls in Pandawanan Village, within the working area of UPT Puskesmas Guntung. A cross-sectional design was used with a total sample of 36 adolescent girls. Data were collected through hemoglobin measurement, assessment of dietary patterns using a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), and a Health Belief Model–based questionnaire on TTD compliance. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test. The prevalence of anemia was 72.22%. Significant relationships were found between dietary patterns and anemia (p = 0.001; r = 0.689) and between TTD compliance and anemia (p = 0.038; r = –0.347). Poor dietary patterns and low compliance were associated with a higher risk of anemia.

Abstract

In children under five, underweight remains a nutritional problem that can impair growth and increase susceptibility to illness. Underweight is influenced by inadequate nutrient intake, particularly energy and protein, low vegetable and fruit consumption, and the presence of infectious diseases. This study aimed to determine the relationship between energy, protein, vegetable and fruit intake and infectious diseases with underweight incidence among children under five in Sungai Bamban Village, working area of UPTD Rantau Badauh Health Center, in 2025. This study used an analytic observational method with a cross sectional design. The population was all children under five in Sungai Bamban Village, with a total sample of 79 children. The dependent variable was underweight status based on the weight-for-age index, while the independent variables were energy intake, protein intake, vegetable intake, fruit intake, and infectious diseases. Dietary data were collected using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and infectious disease history was obtained through interviews. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that 26.6% of children were underweight. As many as 46.8% had inadequate energy intake, 50.6% had inadequate protein intake, 60.8% had low vegetable intake, 51.9% had low fruit intake, and 45.6% had a history of infectious diseases. There were significant relationships between energy, protein, vegetable and fruit intake, infectious diseases, and underweight incidence among children under five (p<0.05). Families are expected to improve children's dietary quality by ensuring adequate energy and protein intake, increasing vegetable and fruit consumption, and preventing and managing infectious diseases through appropriate health services

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is a nutritional problem commonly found among adolescents and may negatively affect growth, health, and future productivity. One of the preventive efforts is nutrition counseling using engaging and age-appropriate educational media, such as powerpoint presentations and motion graphic videos. To analyze the effectiveness of nutrition counseling through powerpoint and motion graphic video media in improving nutritional knowledge regarding the prevention of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among adolescents at SMPN 1 Tapin Tengah. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 46 ninth-grade students of SMPN 1 Tapin Tengah, who were divided into two groups: the powerpoint group and the motion graphic video group. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests. The mean knowledge score in the powerpoint group increased from 58.91 to 75.00, while the mean score in the motion graphic video group increased from 58.91 to 83.26. The Wilcoxon test indicated a significant improvement in nutritional knowledge in both groups (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the Mann–Whitney test showed a significant difference in effectiveness between the powerpoint and motion graphic video media in improving adolescents’ nutritional knowledge (p = 0.005). Nutrition counseling using both powerpoint and motion graphic video media was effective in improving adolescents’ nutritional knowledge regarding CED prevention. However, motion graphic video media proved to be more effective than powerpoint media and is therefore recommended as a nutrition education medium for adolescents.

Abstract

Wasting  is an acute form of malnutrition among children under five that remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia. This condition is influenced by several factors, including maternal knowledge and child feeding practices. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and feeding practices with the incidence of Wasting  among children aged 6–59 months in Panawakan Village, the working area of Puskesmas Haur Gading in 2026. This study was a quantitative cross-sectional design. A total of 99 respondents were drawn from the sample. Data collected included respondent characteristics, maternal knowledge, parenting practices regarding feeding, and the incidence of Wasting  in toddlers. Data were analyzed using univariate tests with frequency tables and bivariate tests using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the majority of toddlers did not experience Wasting  (73.7%), while 26.3% experienced Wasting . Most mothers had sufficient knowledge (46.5%) and poor parenting practices (46.5%). Spearman's test results showed a relationship between maternal knowledge and Wasting  (p = 0.000; r = 0.373) and between maternal feeding practices and Wasting  (p = 0.003; r = 0.299). It is recommended that mothers of toddlers improve their nutritional knowledge and implement appropriate feeding practices to prevent Wasting  in toddlers.

Abstract

Anemia remains one of the most common nutritional problems among adolescent girls and can negatively affect health and learning concentration. Low knowledge regarding the causes and prevention of anemia is one of the factors contributing to its occurrence. This study aimed to determine the effect of nutrition education using Nutricard media on anemia knowledge among adolescent girls at SMAN 1 Sungai Pandan. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a two-group pretest–posttest control group design. Respondents were divided into an intervention group (Nutricard media) and a control group (leaflet media). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to assess changes in knowledge within each group and the Mann–Whitney test to analyze the effect of the educational intervention on knowledge improvement between the two groups. The results showed that in the leaflet group, the mean knowledge score increased from 81.83 to 97.5, while in the Nutricard group, the mean score increased from 81.66 to 94.5. The Wilcoxon test indicated a significant improvement in knowledge in both groups (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Furthermore, the Mann–Whitney test showed a significant difference in knowledge improvement between the two groups (p = 0.045 < 0.05). Nutricard and leaflet media may be utilized as alternative educational tools for anemia prevention among adolescent girls and may be further developed in future studies involving different target populations and variables.

Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the common health problems among toddlers and may be influenced by several factors, including nutritional status, parenting practices, and environmental sanitation. Poor parenting practices and inadequate sanitation may increase the risk of infectious diseases among toddlers. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional status, parenting practices, environmental sanitation, and diarrhea incidence among toddlers in the working area of Karang Intan 1 Public Health Center, Banjar Regency. This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach and was conducted in 2026. The sample consisted of 102 toddlers aged 0–59 months selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected through structured interviews using questionnaires and anthropometric measurements. Nutritional status was assessed using the weight-for-age (W/A) index, while parenting practices, environmental sanitation, and diarrhea incidence were assessed using questionnaires. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α=0.05. A total of 64 toddlers (62.8%) experienced diarrhea. Most toddlers had normal nutritional status (58.8%), while parenting practices were predominantly categorized as poor (50.0%) and environmental sanitation as poor (66.7%). There was no significant relationship between nutritional status and diarrhea incidence (p=0.989). In contrast, significant relationships were found between parenting practices and diarrhea incidence (p<0.001), as well as between environmental sanitation and diarrhea incidence (p<0.001). Parenting practices and environmental sanitation were significantly associated with diarrhea incidence among toddlers, whereas nutritional status based on the W/A index was not significantly associated with diarrhea incidence.
