Abstract

Due to the Ministry of Health's policy, the Indonesian government mandates the public to receive the COVID-19 vaccination as a form of immunity against the coronavirus. This vaccination is not only for adults but also for children of a certain age. Regarding the provision of vaccination for elementary school students aged between 6 to 11 years, the families' responses to this predicament can cause significant barriers to those students being fully vaccinated. Thus, this research developed a web-based application that incorporated the K-means clustering method to group the sentiments of the families into three clusters, namely positive, neutral, and negative. The results showed that the application can identify and cluster the different familial responses from 279 respondents in Kalawat District toward the administration of COVID-19 vaccination to their underage children. The most dominant familial sentiment is positive followed by neutral and negative sentiments with the number of respondents as many as 120 respondents (43%), 113 respondents (41%), and 46 respondents (16%) respectively. This research can help the Health Office in North Minahasa Regency to evaluate public sentiments about vaccination for elementary school students as well as look for better ways to encourage vaccine trust and confidence in this district.

Abstract

The level of social welfare in a country can determine the quality and condition of the country itself. North Wangurer sub-district is in Madidir District, Bitung City, with a population of around 750 households. The level of community welfare in this sub-district is solely based on the monthly income obtained from each community which is regarded to be ineffective. Thus, this research aimed to predict the level of community welfare at this sub-district using the multiple linear regression method. It was hoped that this research could provide insights for the North Wangurer sub-district office to make more effective policies/decisions to increase the level of welfare in hope of eradicating poverty and equitably distributing social assistance to the targetted households. There were four independent variables employed in this research such as income, education, occupation, and the number of family members. Meanwhile, the dependent variable was the level of community welfare consisting of Pra-KS, KS-I, KS-II, KS-III, and KS-III Plus as acknowledged by BKKBN. The results revealed that the level of community welfare for the North Wangurer sub-district was in Prosperous Family III Plus (Level 5). Most of the families (98,7%) in this sub-district can meet all basic needs, social psychology and its development, and self-accountability (self-esteem).

Abstract

Nowadays, local languages gain less interest from the younger generation. This also happened to the Sahu Tala'i language which is a regional language originating from a tribe in the Sahu sub-district, West Halmahera district. Hence, users of this language are becoming fewer and will be threatened with extinction if not being consistently used. To preserve the language, this study built an Android-based bilingual, Sahu Tala'i, and Indonesian dictionary application, to provide access to the language for people in the Sahu sub-district and those who are interested in learning the language. This study uses the Aho-Corasick algorithm to accelerate word search by matching the strings used to determine the position of certain strings in a larger collection of strings. The test results showed that the implementation of the Aho-Corasick algorithm was successfully done to do a word search in the dictionary. Additionally, an audio feature to pronounce the word in the Sahu Tala'i accent/dialect and examples of the use of these words in sentences are provided in this bilingual dictionary.

Abstract

To preserve traditional Kolintang musical instruments, originating from Minahasa (North Sulawesi, Indonesia), Aplikasi Musik Kolintang was developed and can be run on web browsers and Android-based smartphones with several controllers to attract users’ attention. This study aims to explore the acceptability and utilization of this application, especially the use of a webcam as a sensor for motion detections, and identify the modifications to make for better user experiences. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was adopted to determine user acceptance and behavioral intentions toward the application. The TAM variables used in this study were perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude towards usage, and behavioral intentions. External variables were also included, namely application design, application design, and expectancy. An online questionnaires-based survey was conducted to collect data from 177 people randomly selected at Universitas Katolik De La Salle Manado. The results suggested that all variables in the proposed framework either directly or indirectly have effects on the overall behavioral intention to use the application as they have statistically significant positive correlations. The respondent propensity to embrace and use the application was high leading to an increase in positive attitude toward usage, which consequently influenced the behavioral intention to use. Several modifications were indeed required to improve the quality of the application and enrich the user experience.

Abstract

Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by the Coronavirus, spreading quickly and resulting in death. Thus, the government of Manado city recommends all the residents always comply with the   Covid-19 health protocols. The study aimed to investigate the public's response to the effectiveness of the Covid-19 prevention measures imposed by the local government. The prevention measures include using masks, healthy lifestyles, clean lifestyles, and social distancing. K-means clustering was used to determine the level of effectiveness of prevention measures into four clusters, namely very effective (C1), moderately effective (C2), ineffective (C3), and very ineffective (C4). This algorithm yields consistent results despite the difficulty of predicting the K-values or the number of clusters at the beginning of the algorithm. As a result, 58% of respondents consider the prevention measures very effective. They have a high level of Covid-19 awareness and the consequences of violating the health protocols, even though about 10% of the respondents doubted the health protocols in Manado were effective due to the high number of death cases daily. The results can be used as insights for the local government to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in Manado city.

Abstract

Abstract

In the coastal area of Likupang, many types of saltwater fish can be consumed, such as tuna and skipjack. Yet, there are also types of saltwater fish that cannot be consumed or protected by the government, such as Napoleon fish and sea kingfish. Thus, this research aimed to build a desktop application that can automatically classify consumable and non-consumable saltwater fish species more accurately and promptly using a suitable image recognition method like the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). CNN has abilities to distinguish images by recognizing several pixels in a two-dimensional image and RGB (Red, Green, Blue) colors which are then converted into a matrix with various values, making it easier for the system to recognize the two-dimensional image. By using 40% test data (143 images) and 60% training data (213 images), test accuracy in identifying and classifying images of consumable fish, non-consumable fish, and non-fish images with each percentage of 94%, 98%, and 95% respectively.

Abstract

Over the years, mountain climbing has become more popular among ordinary people, with interest suddenly spiking during this recent time. A well-prepared and route-knowledgeable climber is most likely to win half the battle. The task of selecting a mountain for first-time climbers can be a daunting one. The Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method can help beginner climbers determine which mountain is best for them. This method enables users to assign weights to each criterion and alternative based on their preferences, facilitating direct comparisons between options, and calculating all possible combinations, making the process faster and more accurate. According to this study, a campsite, mountain height, natural resources, mountain beauty, and terrain difficulty are major factors to consider when choosing a mountain. The alternatives consist of six mountains in North Sulawesi—Mount Klabat, Lokon, Soputan, Mahawu, Empung, and Tampusu—assessed according to the established criteria. In conclusion, the Decision Support System using the SAW method was successfully developed to help beginner climbers choose mountains based on their preferences. This system includes features such as mountain search, SAW calculations, and top recommendations. Future updates could consist of more detailed mountain specifications and a broader selection of mountains.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease, especially coronary heart disease (CHD), is the leading cause of death globally, with Indonesia, particularly North Sulawesi, experiencing significant prevalence due to unhealthy lifestyles. This study aims to assess the adoption and utilization of an early detection application for CHD among residents of the Spiritual Region of the Sacred Heart of Mary Cathedral Parish in Manado. It also seeks to identify opportunities for enhancing user experiences with the application using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). TAM includes constructs like perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEU), attitude towards use (ATU), behavioral intention to use (BIU), actual system use (ASU), and three external variables: information quality (PUIQ), service quality (PEUSVQ), and system quality (PEUSQ). This study uses the Partial Least Square (PLS) approach for data analysis. The results confirmed that all measures effectively assess their intended constructs. Strong correlations among the constructs demonstrate solid internal consistency. Regarding reliability, all constructs demonstrate acceptable consistency
