Abstract

Traffic density at the port loading terminal is a critical factor affecting the port's operational efficiency and overall performance. To overcome the challenges of the complexity of the traffic system at the port terminal, a discrete simulation approach is adopted in this study. A quantitative approach is used to collect data and accurately model traffic processes. This study aims to develop a predictive model of traffic density at Tanjung Emas port loading terminals using a discrete simulation methods quantitative approach. The results showed that the resulting traffic density prediction model has high accuracy and can be used as a predictive tool to assist decision-making in optimizing port loading terminal operations

Abstract

Abstrak: Work safety on board ships is a fundamental aspect in supporting smooth shipping operations. This study aims to identify the factors causing the suboptimal installation of gangway safety nets on the MT. Harmony Chemist ship when docked, analyze the impact caused, and formulate improvement strategies in accordance with international safety standards. A descriptive qualitative approach was used with data collection techniques through observation, interviews with key crew members including the Officer, Second Officer, and Bosun, and supported by documentation analysis. Data analysis was conducted using the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) method and the 5 Why approach, as well as problem ranking using the USG (Urgency, Seriousness, Growth) method. The research results indicate that the primary causes of suboptimal installation of gangway safety nets are the failure to conduct equipment suitability checks prior to use, the absence of a clear marking system, and weak communication among deck crew members. These conditions have implications for increased workplace accident risks, operational obstacles, and warnings from Port State Control (PSC) authorities. The USG analysis identified ineffective communication as the highest priority factor that needs to be improved. Recommendations for improvement include strengthening the communication system, conducting regular safety meetings, labeling damaged equipment, implementing double-check procedures, and conducting periodic inspections in accordance with the ISM Code and ISGOTT standards. This study underscores the importance of fully implementing a safety culture to achieve safe, professional, and internationally compliant ship operations.

Abstract

Lifeboats are the main safety equipment on ships that require periodic maintenance according to SOLAS standards to ensure preparedness in an emergency. However, the observation results on KM. Egon shows the condition of damaged vital components and the lack of crew readiness in their use. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that affect lifeboat maintenance on KM. Egon, analyze its impact, and formulate efforts to optimize lifeboat readiness. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using the fishbone diagram method. The results showed that lifeboat maintenance on KM. Egon is influenced by maintenance methods that are not in accordance with SOPs, low crew understanding, and busy cruise schedules. The impacts that arise include component damage, decreased lifeboat readiness, and non-routine training. It was concluded that the optimization of lifeboat maintenance on KM. Egon is influenced by method, human, material, environment, and machine factors. Therefore, it is recommended to increase crew understanding through routine training and safety meetings, proactive provision of spare parts by the company, and maximize maintenance when the ship is sailing. In addition, ship officers need to more actively monitor and evaluate the condition of safety equipment.

Abstract

The aim to be achieved in this research is to determine the significant influence of the use of the CLS (Collecte Localisation Satellites) application and operator readiness on the effectiveness of vessel monitoring at PT Sinarmas LDA Maritime. This research employs a quantitative method. Data collection techniques involve distributing questionnaires to respondents. The sampling technique applies Slovin’s formula, resulting in a final sample of 40 respondents who use the CLS application services. The data analysis method applied involves multiple linear regression, utilizing two independent factors and one dependent factor. The data is processed through multiple linear regression, incorporating classical assumption testing and hypothesis evaluation. As indicated According to the study results, the F-test indicates that the calculated F-value exceeds the F-table value (81.678 > 3.25), indicating that the use of the CLS application and operator readiness significantly influence the effectiveness of vessel monitoring. The findings conclude that in this study, the variables of CLS application usage and operator readiness (X1 and X2) have an impact on vessel monitoring effectiveness.

Abstract

This article aims to conduct bibliometric research on ship crew members who carry out guard duty on ships. Research gaps in watch keeping studies are identified and analyzed. Ship crews carrying out guard duty must ensure ship safety and avoid the risk of ship accidents. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, namely by describing data visualization. The keyword chosen is "watch keeping". Data was collected from journals that have been published in Scopus indexed journals using publish or perish (PoP) and completed using Mendeley. Next, the data is input into VOS viewer. The results obtained from the publish or Perish search found as many as 200 articles on the topic of watch keeping published in the period from 1960 to 2023. Next, the results of data processing with VOS viewer obtained results based on keywords divided into 6 clusters. Overall, bibliometric analysis on the topic of watch keeping provides important insights into the research analyzed, which will help researchers, practitioners and policy makers understand the latest developments which are increasingly dynamic and continue to develop. The implementation of good and correct guard duty on a ship is by carrying out monitoring planning, responding to emergencies, carrying out effective communication, being alert to potential dangers while the ship is sailing, arranging rest times, and maintaining equipment on the ship so that it functions properly.
