Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The issue regarding the reproductive system is an important topic within gender discussion. Discrimination against women often results in violence, which one of the forms is the violence of the female reproductive system. Most Indonesian women have not earned the full rights of their reproductive health. It is not yet recognized by most Indonesian women that the rights of the reproductive system are autonomic which indicates that each individual must own the right completely. The issue regarding the fulfillment of the female reproductive system is usually described in fiqh doctrine which tends to be gender biased. If we are able to analyze the issue deeper, the Al Qur'an's doctrine gives a proper analysis regarding the health of the reproductive system. Within surah An Nisa', Allah highlighted that men and women are given an equal responsibility to grow humanity. It is clearly stated within the holy Al Qur'an that woman's rights must be held responsible, respected, and protected. As an example, the holy Al Qur'an forbidding to conduct sexual intercourse with women during their period. Another example is that holy Al Qur'an explained that pregnant and breastfeeding women are in their vital stage, and they must be protected. As there are different doctrines between the fiqh and al-Qur'an regarding the issue of the female reproductive system, it is clear that the gender position of women within fiqh becomes an essential topic to discuss. We need to dig deeper as well as to develop a new understanding of fiqh, which is fiqh's gender responsiveness, as we believe that fiqh discussion must develop from time to time, following the modern human rights discourse.

Abstract

This study investigates how ideological meaning is constructed in Ayat Kursi through Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach, using Tafsir al-Munir and At-Ta’wil al-Najmiyyah as primary references, and how its transformation of meaning is manifested in Muslim religious practices. Ayat Kursi, widely recited and regarded as a means of protection, is often understood normatively, without further exploration of the sign systems embedded in its textual formulations. This research highlights that each expression in the verse holds broader and more complex meanings that go beyond literal interpretation. The findings show that, at the denotative level, Ayat Kursi describes Allah’s majesty and absolute power. At the connotative level, it conveys symbols of divine protection, spiritual strength, and Islamic identity. At the mythical level, the verse represents transcendent authority that governs human existence, portraying faith as a protective force through Allah’s unlimited power to repel danger, ward off evil, and bring peace. Furthermore, the study identifies three patterns in the transformation of Ayat Kursi’s meaning within religious practice: (1) a shift from spiritual-transcendental protection to its use as a magical-sympathetic object; (2) its role as a marker of identity and sacred space; and (3) a reduction of its rich, complex meanings into simplified, practical functions. By combining semiotic analysis with exegetical perspectives, this research contributes to deepening the study of Qur’anic interpretation and demonstrates the continued relevance of Ayat Kursi for contemporary Islamic discourse.

Abstract

Vocational high schools (SMK) play a strategic role in producing graduates who are ready for work. However, students' career readiness is not only determined by technical skills, but also by their ability to plan for the future psychologically and socially. Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers have an important responsibility in assisting students to recognize their potential, set goals, and make appropriate career decisions. The research question in this study is how BK teachers play a role in preparing students' careers, what obstacles they face, and what strategies they use in providing career guidance services. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation of BK teachers at SMK Ma'arif NU Kajen. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of BK teachers, identify the obstacles that arise, and explore the strategies applied in the implementation of career services. The results of the study indicate that the role of guidance counselors includes the functions of facilitator, consultant, and character developer, although it is not yet optimal due to limitations in time, resources, and school policy support. The strategies used include individual approaches, collaboration with the Career Guidance Center (BKK), and strengthening communication with students. Career services require structural support to be more effective and sustainable.

Abstract

This study explores the intersection between Islamic values and local traditions by analyzing the concept of women’s honor in the Qur’an and its implementation in the Sesan tradition of the Lampung Pepadun community in Indonesia. As an essential component of Pepadun marriage customs, Sesan symbolizes both material readiness and social expectations toward women. The purpose of this study is to assess the extent to which the Sesan tradition aligns with or diverges from Islamic teachings on women’s dignity and roles. Employing a qualitative ethnographic approach, the research integrates textual analysis of Qur’anic verses and classical tafsīr with field data collected through observations and interviews in Kiling-Kiling Village, Way Kanan Regency. Informants include customary leaders, women involved in the Sesan ritual, and local religious scholars. The findings reveal a fundamental convergence between Islamic values and the Sesan tradition, particularly in emphasizing respect for women, the seriousness of marriage commitments, and men’s moral responsibilities toward women. However, significant differences emerge in the modes of expression and normative foundations. The Qur’an articulates women’s honor through spiritual principles and universal ethics, while Sesan expresses it through material symbols and localized social structures. The study concludes that while both frameworks aim to uphold women’s dignity, they differ in their modes of manifestation and normative bases.

Abstract

Abstract This study examines the patriarchal construction in classical interpretations of QS. al-Nisāʾ [4]:34 and QS. al-Baqarah [2]:228, and deconstructs them through Muhammad Arkoun’s critical hermeneutics (Applied Islamology). The main issue addressed is the dominance of classical interpretations by al-Ṭabarī, Ibn Kathīr, and al-Qurṭubī, which emerged from patriarchal social structures and a closed epistemology, thereby marginalizing alternative perspectives. The aim of this study is to offer a more ethical and humanistic reinterpretation by emphasizing gender justice. The research employs a qualitative method with critical discourse analysis, integrating exegesis, anthropology, sociology, and linguistics. The novelty of this study lies in the application of Arkoun’s Apply Islamology through the concept of epistemic break and openness to the unsaid, in order to dismantle the hegemony of patriarchal interpretations. Its contribution is to open up a space for reinterpretation of Islamic teachings that is more contextual, responsive to contemporary social dynamics, and supportive of the principle of gender equality. Keywords: Applied Islamology; Critical hermeneutics; Gender justice; Muhammad Arkoun; Patriarchal exegesis.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the meaning of the story thematically and to identify its relevance for contemporary society. This study employed the thematic interpretation method ( tafsir maudhu'i ) with a library research approach, focusing on three main chapters: QS. Al- A'raf : 73–79, QS. An-Naml: 45–53, and QS. Al-Qamar: 23–32. The findings revealed that from a socio-historical perspective, the material advancement of the Thamud civilization was not accompanied by moral maturity, leading to greed, social injustice, and environmental exploitation. From a phenomenological perspective, their rejection was understood as a form of closed consciousness, arrogance, and spiritual alienation from monotheism. Ibn Kathir's commentary strengthens this analysis by providing detailed reports and chronology that confirms the pattern of destruction among nations that rejects the truth. The novelty of this study lay in synthesizing classical exegesis with thematic and multidisciplinary approaches to provide a more comprehensive understanding. Its implications are relevant to contemporary issues such as environmental degradation, social inequality, and the reinforcement of transcendental values as the foundation of moral and social policies.

Abstract

This study examines the political career of Maria Ullfah from 1934 to 1947, as well as the influence of her family and education on the formation of her political consciousness. Born into an educated priyayi family, Maria Ullfah had access to extensive formal education from an early age, eventually pursuing legal studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Growing up in a family environment closely connected to intellectual traditions and the colonial bureaucracy, combined with her experiences witnessing injustices against women, nurtured her social sensitivity and early commitment to gender equality. Her Western education and interactions with figures of the national movement, such as Sutan Sjahrir, further strengthened her awareness as part of a colonized nation in need of change. Upon returning to Indonesia, she actively participated in women’s organizations, educational institutions, and the national movement, playing a key role in the Indonesian Women’s Congress, KOWANI, and literacy eradication efforts. During the revolutionary period, her intellectual capacity and dedication led to her being appointed a member of the BPUPKI and later becoming the first female Minister of Social Affairs. Her contributions not only opened public spaces for women but also played a significant role in the political processes leading to the establishment of the Indonesian state. This study demonstrates that family background, education, and personal experiences were significant factors in shaping Maria Ullfah as a central figure in the women’s movement and the struggle for independence.
