Abstract

This study aims to analyze and prioritize customer needs using the House of Quality (HoQ) approach in ramen UMKM in Batam City, and to link customer needs with relevant technical features. Data were collected through a survey of 38 consumers of “Uru Ramen” UMKM in Batam, followed by analysis of the validity and reliability of the survey instrument using statistical methods. The results showed that all survey items were valid and reliable. The HoQ analysis revealed that the quality of raw materials and cleanliness were the top priorities for customers. The selection and supervision of suppliers and routine cleaning schedules were the most influential technical factors in meeting these needs. This study also showed that “Uru Ramen” UMKM had strengths in taste quality with an average user value of 41,289, but weaknesses in price portion and ease of access. Recommendations were given to improve aspects that were less competitive and maintain the quality of raw materials and cleanliness in order to increase customer satisfaction and the competitiveness of ramen UMKM in Batam City.

Abstract

Background: As the number of elderly individuals in Indonesia increases, the challenges in providing effective and efficient healthcare services become increasingly complex. One of the main issues faced by the elderly is the risk of falls due to limited mobility and declining physical performance. Additionally, the lack of integrated medical record management often hinders the timely and accurate delivery of medical services. This Community Service program aims to implement technological solutions in elderly care through the development of a smart cane (LansiaTracker) and a medical record application (LansiaCare). The smart cane (LansiaTracker) is equipped with various sensors to detect the user's physical condition, provide early warnings of fall risks, and monitor daily activities. Furthermore, the integrated medical record application (LansiaCare) allows for real-time management of the elderly's health data, making relevant health information easily accessible to family members and medical staff. Method: Socialization, training, and assistance for the elderly at Puskesmas Tiban Baru, aiming to enhance their quality of life and reduce health risks. Results: The use of the smart cane (LansiaTracker) and the medical record application (LansiaCare) not only effectively supports the mobility of the elderly but also improves their overall health monitoring. Conclusion: The implementation of this technology provides practical and affordable solutions for various elderly communities, especially those with limited access to healthcare facilities, enhancing responsiveness in emergency situations and facilitating comprehensive medical data recording and management.

Abstract

This study addresses the cognitive workload challenges faced by working adult students in Batam's higher education institutions, utilizing the NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) methodology. Through a cross-sectional design and convenience sampling, data were collected from 157 part-time students across 10 universities. Results indicate that time constraints and academic effort contribute significantly to mental workload, with an average Weighted Workload (WWL) score of 68, signifying a high level of cognitive burden. Strategies for workload reduction include enhanced academic support, effective time management, and prioritizing mental well-being. This research underscores the imperative of collaborative efforts among universities, instructors, and students to cultivate an environment conducive to academic success and well-being for working adult learners.

Abstract

Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi masyarakat Tanjung Uma, Kecamatan Lubuk Baja, Kota Batam adalah rendahnya kesadaran dan pengetahuan tentang pengelolaan sampah yang benar, yang menyebabkan penumpukan sampah dengan dampak negatif terhadap kualitas lingkungan dan kesehatan masyarakat. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan memperbaiki pola pembuangan sampah melalui survei lapangan untuk memahami perilaku masyarakat serta faktor sosial, ekonomi, dan budaya yang memengaruhinya. Solusi yang ditawarkan meliputi edukasi tentang bahaya sampah dan pelatihan pengelolaan sampah, seperti pemanfaatan sampah organik menjadi pupuk dan daur ulang sampah non-organik menjadi barang bernilai guna. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan perubahan positif dalam perilaku masyarakat, termasuk meningkatnya kesadaran terhadap pengelolaan sampah dan keterlibatan aktif dalam program daur ulang, yang memberikan manfaat ekonomi dan dampak positif terhadap lingkungan. Untuk keberlanjutan program, disarankan memperluas sosialisasi ke sekolah, kantor, dan tingkat kecamatan, serta menjalin kerjasama dengan perusahaan dan NGO untuk mendukung pengelolaan sampah yang lebih efektif.

Abstract

Plastic waste management has become a critical environmental issue, with its improper handling leading to severe ecological and health impacts. This research addresses the challenge by designing and developing an IoT-based mobile plastic shredding machine aimed at improving waste management efficiency, particularly in Batam City, Indonesia. Utilizing Borg and Gall’s R&D framework, this study integrates IoT technology to enhance the machine’s functionality, enabling real-time data collection and remote monitoring through mobile applications. The machine comprises three functional levels: a storage area for raw plastic bottles, a shredding unit with proximity sensors, and a post-shredding storage compartment. Key innovations include weight sensors for automatic material handling and real-time data transmission via the Blynk IoT platform, controlled by an Arduino microcontroller. The modular design ensures portability, easy maintenance, and adaptability for use in various locations, including coastal areas. Prototyping involved integrating proximity sensors, load cells, relays, and motor control systems to ensure smooth operation. The machine demonstrated consistent performance during testing, with its IoT features enabling remote control and monitoring via smartphones. This facilitates optimized waste collection and contributes to reducing environmental pollution caused by plastic waste. The IoT-based mobile plastic shredding machine not only enhances waste management efficiency but also supports sustainability goals. Its portability and environmentally friendly design make it a practical solution for managing plastic waste in underserved areas. This innovation provides a significant step toward addressing the global plastic waste crisis, aligning with technological advancements to promote sustainable waste management practices.

Abstract

Fruit Salad SMEs in Batam City face significant challenges in improving product quality and services to meet customer needs. This study aims to identify and analyze the needs of customers of Fruit Salad SMEs in Batam City and formulate quality improvement strategies using the House of Quality (HoQ) tool. Data were obtained through surveys and analyzed using Pearson correlation to ensure validity and reliability. The results show that all items have a significant correlation with the total score, with correlation values ranging from 0.697 to 0.860 and p-values < 0.05, indicating strong data validity and reliability. Specifically, the item "Price appropriate to quality" showed the highest correlation at 0.860, while "Ease of ordering" had the lowest at 0.697. The analysis confirmed that the formulated strategies based on customer needs can be relied upon to enhance the competitiveness of Fruit Salad SMEs in Batam City. The application of the HoQ tool provided a clear prioritization of quality attributes, allowing SMEs to focus on aspects such as "Good fruit quality" and "Maintained cleanliness and hygiene," which had the highest importance values of 10.369 and 10.000, respectively. By integrating statistical analysis and HoQ, this study offers a robust framework for the sustainable development and competitiveness of Fruit Salad SMEs in the dynamic market environment of Batam City.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a semi-automatic battery voltage testing machine using electro-pneumatic technology controlled by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) at PT VARTA Microbattery Indonesia. This machine is designed to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of testing lithium round cell 2/3 AA batteries, which were previously tested manually. The machine development utilizes the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method, which identifies user needs through interviews and questionnaires, then translates them into technical characteristics within the system. The analysis using the House of Quality (HoQ) showed that the main priorities are testing accuracy, speed, ease of operation, and safety. This system integrates electro-pneumatic components, sensors, and PLC to control the machine's movements, ensuring a more efficient and consistent production process. The results indicate that the implementation of this semi-automatic machine can reduce the testing cycle time and improve battery production productivity.

Abstract

The rubber industry is an important sector that processes, produces, and utilizes products made from rubber materials, with natural rubber sap as the primary raw material. The industry faces challenges such as mismatched rubber receipt data, which affects production targets due to supply chain disruptions. This study aims to implement Lean Supply Chain at PT A and estimate the efficiency of its application in meeting production goals. The research applies Lean Supply Chain principles to identify and eliminate waste in the supply chain of PT A, from harvesting to storage, using Value Stream Mapping (VSM). The identified waste includes environmental impact, product defects, waiting times, underutilized talent, transportation inefficiencies, excessive movement, and over-processing. Root causes of waste are analyzed using Fishbone Diagrams and the 5 Whys method, followed by corrective actions that align with the identified root causes. The activity mapping process resulted in a 3% increase in production efficiency for Ribbed Smoked Sheet (RSS). Furthermore, Lean Supply Chain implementation reduced rubber processing time from 8 days to 5 days, as per VSM analysis. This study provides valuable insights into how Lean Supply Chain can enhance efficiency and production in the rubber industry.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kepuasan pelanggan UMKM Risol di Kota Batam dengan menggunakan analisis Quality Function Deployment (QFD). Metode QFD digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi kebutuhan pelanggan dan menerjemahkannya ke dalam karakteristik teknis produk yang spesifik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas rasa, kebersihan, dan kemasan yang baik adalah faktor utama yang mempengaruhi kepuasan pelanggan. Selain itu, kesesuaian harga dengan kualitas produk, penyediaan variasi rasa yang beragam, serta pelayanan yang cepat dan ramah juga menjadi faktor penting dalam meningkatkan kepuasan pelanggan. Penggunaan bahan baku berkualitas tinggi menjadi prioritas teknis utama yang perlu diperhatikan oleh UMKM Risol. Analisis House of Quality (HoQ) yang dilakukan memberikan panduan yang jelas mengenai langkah-langkah perbaikan yang diperlukan untuk meningkatkan kualitas produk dan layanan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan QFD efektif dalam membantu UMKM mengidentifikasi dan memenuhi kebutuhan pelanggan, sehingga dapat meningkatkan daya saing dan kepuasan pelanggan secara keseluruhan. Dengan implementasi QFD, UMKM Risol di Kota Batam diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kualitas produk dan layanan mereka, serta memenuhi harapan pelanggan dengan lebih baik. Penelitian ini juga diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi bagi UMKM lain dalam mengaplikasikan metode QFD untuk peningkatan kualitas produk dan kepuasan pelanggan. Dengan demikian, pendekatan QFD tidak hanya membantu dalam memahami kebutuhan pelanggan secara lebih mendalam, tetapi juga memberikan solusi praktis untuk memenuhi kebutuhan tersebut, sehingga dapat meningkatkan kepuasan pelanggan dan daya saing UMKM secara signifikan.

Abstract

PT XYZ faces a high defect rate in the production of Boom Excavator 20, particularly in the Hydraulic Mining Shovel (HMS) component. This study aims to identify the causes of defects and provide recommendations for quality improvement using the Statistical Process Control (SPC) method. Data from August 2023 to July 2024 were collected and analyzed using SPC tools, including check sheets, control charts, Pareto diagrams, histograms, and cause-and-effect diagrams. The results revealed that spatter and material damage were the most common defects. Analysis identified four main contributing factors: poor electrode quality, operator skill and errors, improper welding methods, and unstable welding machines. Based on these findings, the study recommends improving electrode quality control, enhancing operator training, optimizing welding techniques, and performing regular machine maintenance. This research demonstrates the effectiveness of SPC in monitoring and improving the quality control processes of PT XYZ.
