Abstract

Nongsa Beach in Batam is an increasingly popular tourist destination, facing challenges in providing an effective signage and wayfinding system. The lack of a clear information system often causes confusion among visitors, especially for first-time visitors. This research aims to design signage and wayfinding systems that not only improve readability and understanding of information, but also enrich the visitor experience by creating a more organized and accessible environment. This study uses the environmental graphic design (EGD) method which is limited to predesign and design. Data collection was taken from observation, interviews and literature studies and analyzed. The results of the data analysis were used to design Signage and Wayfinding at Nongsa Beach, Batam.

Abstract

One example of the current development of the plastic industry is Anti-Bacterial Plastic. Anti-bacterial plastic is a plastic that can store food well, even for a relatively long time compared to plastic in general. In the industrial world, companies are required to continue trying to find various ways and efforts to be able to compete with other companies that have the same business field. Defective products are products produced from a factory or industry where the product does not meet predetermined product quality standards. According to consumers, a good quality standard is if the product can be used according to consumer needs. However, if the product cannot be used according to consumer needs, then the product can be said to be a defective product. By analyzing defects in the antibacterial plastic manufacturing process, it can be useful to find problems that arise in the plastic packaging manufacturing process. The research method is carried out using a process of experimentation and measurement as well as checking defects visually. From the research results, three types of defects in anti-bacterial plastic products were found, namely eyelets, shrinkage and dimensional defects. These defects are characterized by spots on the plastic surface, wrinkles on the plastic surface, and dimensional differences in the plastic.

Abstract

Background: Puskesmas Bulang sebagai salah satu penyedia fasilitas kesehatan (Faskes) terluar di Pulau Batam merupakan puskesmas satelit yang sifatnya vital karena operasionalnya mencakup Pulau Buluh dan beberapa pulau kecil disekitarnya dengan sarana dan prasarana alat kesehatan (alkes) yang belum memadai. Walaupun Puskesmas Bulang dapat menerima persalinan bayi namun apabila calon ibu bayi terindikasi akan memiliki bayi premature, maka persalinan dialihkan ke Rumah Sakit faskes lanjutan terdekat di Pulau Batam yang berjarak sekitar 10km. Maka, solusinya yaitu pemberian inkubator bayi yang terintegrasi dengan solar panel. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian secara jangka panjang adalah mendukung program pemerintah untuk mengurangi angka kematian bayi baru lahir (neonatal) hingga 12 kematian per 1000 kelahiran selagi memberikan kesempatan bagi dosen dan mahasiswa berkegiatan di luar kampus. Metode: Pelaksanaan kegiatan dibagi tiga tahap yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Setiap tahapan melibatkan mitra. Hasil: Hasil riset yang akan diterapkan pada kegiatan ini yaitu pemanfaatan energi terbarukan solar panel yang terintegrasi dengan alkes inkubator bayi. Kesimpulan: Teknologi telah diuji coba dan di implementasikan di puskesmas pulau bulang dan dapat menjadi solusi untuk pengingkatan layanan kesehatan masyarakat disekitar Puskesmas Bulang.

Abstract

Tourism and travel is the largest industry in the world with hotels as a key factor in enjoying a holiday. As the cornerstone of tourism, the hotel industry continues to develop to meet increasingly high customer expectations. The application of high technology is the key to competition between hotels, with several hotels moving towards an innovative and efficient "smart hotel" concept. This research explores the hotel industry in Batam as a unique tourism destination and industrial center. The main focus includes analyzing the level of technology adoption in Batam hotels, identifying trends and factors driving the “smart hotel” concept, and developing expert system models to improve the tourist experience. By combining the two methods of Forward Chaining and Certainty Factors in an Expert System, it is hoped that the results of this research can provide important insights regarding the development of the hotel industry in Batam and the positive impact of technology in improving the quality of service to travelers.

Abstract

The rubber industry is an important sector that processes, produces, and utilizes products made from rubber materials, with natural rubber sap as the primary raw material. The industry faces challenges such as mismatched rubber receipt data, which affects production targets due to supply chain disruptions. This study aims to implement Lean Supply Chain at PT A and estimate the efficiency of its application in meeting production goals. The research applies Lean Supply Chain principles to identify and eliminate waste in the supply chain of PT A, from harvesting to storage, using Value Stream Mapping (VSM). The identified waste includes environmental impact, product defects, waiting times, underutilized talent, transportation inefficiencies, excessive movement, and over-processing. Root causes of waste are analyzed using Fishbone Diagrams and the 5 Whys method, followed by corrective actions that align with the identified root causes. The activity mapping process resulted in a 3% increase in production efficiency for Ribbed Smoked Sheet (RSS). Furthermore, Lean Supply Chain implementation reduced rubber processing time from 8 days to 5 days, as per VSM analysis. This study provides valuable insights into how Lean Supply Chain can enhance efficiency and production in the rubber industry.

Abstract

One method utilized in the production of plastic goods is injection molding. An essential part of the injection molding process is a mold, which is used to create different types of plastic goods in accordance with a preset design. The goal of this study is to create plastic beam molding molds using the EDM and milling production methods and evaluate the molds' form geometry and resilience to temperature. The material's thermal conductivity is 200 W/m.k. due to the properties of the 1060 aluminum alloy. It can be determined that the low mold temperature during the injection process causes plastic products to distort and swell. The results show that the EDM machining technique achieved a frequency of 142.8% and a duty cycle value of 57%. Using barrel temperatures of 1600C and 250°C for temperature resistance tests, the mold was determined to be in rather good condition when exposed to high temperatures. This is demonstrated by the results of testing the shape's geometry, which showed similarity in the product's dimensions with the mold and an increase in the product's dimensions.

Abstract

The abundant amount of plastic waste and the high environmental problems it caused encourage the efforts to utilize recycled plastic materials in various applications, including the manufacture of plastic block produced using injection molding. This study aimed to analyze the effect of a mixture of recycled plastic types (PP, HDPE, and LDPE) on the mechanical properties of plastic blocks. Two of the three types of recycled plastic used were combined with a 1:1 composition and then molded into plastic blocks. Testing was carried out through tensile tests and impact tests to assess the tensile strength and toughness of the material. The results showed that the PP + HDPE alloy produced a tensile stress value of 26.2 MPa, a strain of 29.2%, and an elastic modulus of 89.6 MPa. While the average impact test value of this alloy reached 0.168 Joules/mm² with a maximum bending load of 3.94 kgf/cm². This alloy can be used as a reference material for manufacturing plastic blocks that have good mechanical properties.

Abstract

Temperatur sebagai salah satu besaran pokok memainkan peranan penting dalam indikasi berbagai aspek, dari indikator kesehatan mahluk hidup sampai benda tak hidup. Pentingnya peran temperatur membuat keberadaan data akuisisi (DAQ) temperature menjadi cukup krusial. Hingga tak jarang harga temperatur DAQ di pasaran cukup mahal. DAQ temperatur dapat dibuat secara mandiri memanfaatkan sensor termokopel dan platform open source seperti Arduino. Integrasi sensor termokopel dan Arduino membutuhkan perangkat lain sebagai kompensasi sambungan dingin dan juga analog to digital converter, yang perannya dapat dilakukan oleh modul MAX31855. Kombinasi antar ketiganya perlu dievaluasi untuk mengetahui keakuratan DAQ yang terbentuk. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi dan mengoreksi kekaurasian self-made temperatur DAQ bebasiskan termokopel tipe K-MAX31855-dan juga Arduino UNO. Self-made temperature DAQ dapat mengukur dinamika temperatur sistem namun dengan akurasi yang cukup rendah, yaitu 0.60°C. Kalibrasi dilakukan untuk meningkatkan keakurasian DAQ menjadi 0.14°C.

Abstract

Musholla dan tempat wudhu merupakan fasilitas penting yang harus ada disetiap tempat umum suatu negara yang mayoritas penduduknya muslim, salah satunya di Indonesia. Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi kelengkapan, kebersihan, dan kepuasan pengguna fasilitas wudhu di musholla XYZ menggunakan Six sigma. Metodologi Six sigma yang digunakan adalah DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analysis, Improve, Control) karena fasilitas sudah ada dan cocok digunakan untuk meningkatkan kualitas. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner yang diberikan kepada 30 responden. Kuesioner dirancang untuk mendapatkan informasi dan tanggapan dari responden terkait topik penelitian atau evaluasi yang sedang dilakukan. Berdasarkan hasil kuisioner didapatkan bahwa perlu adanya perbaikan pada tempat wudhu dan penambahan toilet sekitar musholla untuk memberikan kenyamanan para pengguna.

Abstract

Salt as a source of important minerals is much needed by society and industry. In the salt-making process, salt must go through a drying phase. Salt drying at the Badan Riset Nasional (BRIN)’s workshop that uses wood pellet as the fuel is considered not optimal because of waste in waiting and processing time. Other alternative fuels are needed to maximize the salt production process, one of which is using used lubricating oil. Utilizing used lubricating oil as fuel for the salt drying process requires the conversion of burner or stove. This research aims to design a stove fueled by used lubricant oil for drying industrial salt. French method is used to design the stove. The stove that has been built iwas compared with wood pellet stove in terms of waiting time to reach the desired salt drying temperature, fuel operational costs, and capacity of the salt produced. The ST-44 steel oil stove with a diameter of 17 cm and a height of 13 cm could reach the drying temperature 15 minutes faster than a wood pellet stove without the need of supervising the feeding process. Daily operational costs for fuel consumption using used lubricating oil were also more economical with 25% more dry salt produced than using a wood pellet stove.
