Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of the Mind Mapping technique in enhancing students' writing abilities and their active participation in learning activities, specifically in Class X Multimedia of SMKN 1 Dedai. Drawing on various theories of writing instruction and motivation, as well as the benefits of Mind Mapping, the research aims to address students' writing challenges through innovative teaching methodologies.Utilizing Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the methodological framework, the study follows a four-step cycle: Planning, Action, Observing, and Reflecting. Researchers actively engage in teaching writing procedures using the Mind Mapping technique, while observing student interactions and responses in the classroom. Data collection involves observations, tests, field notes, and interviews conducted across two research cycles. The findings reveal significant improvements in student engagement and writing proficiency throughout the research process. Despite initial challenges, such as low motivation and participation, the implementation of the Mind Mapping technique leads to notable enhancements in student participation rates, writing skills, and overall learning experiences.Analysis of data from both cycles demonstrates a marked increase in student participation, with average scores rising from 69.21% to 82.89%. Moreover, test results indicate substantial advancements in students' writing proficiency, particularly in content, organization, language use, vocabulary, and mechanics. This study underscores the importance of innovative teaching methodologies, such as Mind Mapping, in fostering student engagement and improving learning outcomes. By actively integrating such techniques into classroom instruction, educators can create dynamic learning environments conducive to student participation and skill development. Keywords: Mind mapping technique, teaching writing, procedure text

Abstract

The main problem of this research was the students participation and writing ability are still low. The objective of this research is to recognize the improvement in students participation and to describe the improvement of students writing ability in learning activities through the implementation of Tree Diagram techniques. The subject of this research is the students of the tenth grade consisting of 30 students, 15 males and 15 females. Data from both qualitative and quantitative sources were used in this Classroom Action Research (CAR) study. While the authors employed tests to gather student test scores for quantitative data, they obtained qualitative data through observation, interviews, field notes, and documentation. The results showed that there was a positive increase in both students participation in learning to write and students ability to write descriptive texts. This can be seen from the results of observation checklists, field notes, and interviews showing that tree diagrams can increase students participation in learning to write. In cycle II the checklist observation results were 89.5%. The students writing results were also good, with an average score of 81.51. The researcher concluded that the Tree Diagram Technique was successful in increasing students' participation and ability to write.

Abstract

This research examines how English major students perceive the role of technology in their language learning. The study aims to investigate students’ opinions, the technological tools they commonly utilize, the benefits and challenges they perceive, and to provide recommendations for enhancing the integration of technology in English education. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive method, data were gathered through a structured questionnaire containing closed-ended using linkert scale and open-ended questions. The participants comprised students from the English Language Education program at STKIP Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang, specifically those enrolled from semesters 2 to 8 who have experience using technology for learning English. The findings reveal that students regularly use a variety of digital tools, such as mobile applications, to aid their English learning. Participants express favorable views on technology, emphasizing its role in improving vocabulary, grammar, writing, and listening skills. Moreover, technology is perceived as a motivator that enhances engagement, boosts self-confidence, and promotes autonomy in the learning experience. Nevertheless, obstacles persist, such as technical issues, digital distractions, and insufficient structured guidance from educators. The study emphasizes the necessity of institutional support, which includes technical assistance, teacher training, and efficient strategies to reduce distractions. It advocates for a blended learning approach that integrates technology with conventional face-to-face methods to foster a more adaptable and effective educational environment.

Abstract

Labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor is a major challenge that can affect both the comfort and progress of the birthing process. Non-pharmacological interventions such as the use of a birth ball and hypnobirthing techniques are widely employed as safe and effective alternatives for pain relief. This study aimed to analyze the effect of birth ball and hypnobirthing interventions on reducing labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor among mothers delivering at PMB Mira Dahlia, Toboali District, South Bangka Regency, in 2025. A quantitative study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test non-equivalent control group approach. A total of 46 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Pain levels were measured using a combination of the Visual Analogue Scale and Wong-Baker Scale before and after the interventions. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test. The results showed a significant reduction in labor pain after the birth ball intervention, with all respondents experiencing decreased pain levels (Wilcoxon test p = 0.000; p < 0.05). The hypnobirthing intervention also resulted in a significant reduction in pain (Z = -4.260; p = 0.000). However, the Mann-Whitney test showed no significant difference in effectiveness between the birth ball and hypnobirthing interventions (p = 0.061 > 0.05), although the average pain reduction was greater in the birth ball group. It can be concluded that both birth ball and hypnobirthing interventions are effective in reducing labor pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor. While no significant difference was found between the two methods, birth ball showed a slightly higher average reduction in pain compared to hypnobirthing.
