Abstract

A study of Greywater treatment has been conducted. By utilising vast local coral reefs and sand as filter media, we aimed to treat synthetic waste water in term of reducing its pH, temperature, COD, phosphates and turbidity parameter. The sample was passed gravitationally through 3 variation of filtering agent composition i.e. 1:1, 2:1 and 1:2 of coral reefs to sand ratio respectively in 2 flow rates: 0,4 and 0,8 mL/s. The collected up flow effluent was then analysed. Data resulted were then tested with ANOVA statistical test. The result showed that the mass ratio of the media and the flow rate influenced parameters. The best treatment was obtained at the 1:1 mass ratio in 0,4 mL/s flow rate. The effluent fulfilled the Indonesian water standard quality according to PP No 82 tahun 2001 and PERMENKES No 416/MENKES/PER/1990.

Abstract

Research has been carried out on the synthesis and characterization of Mg - Chitosan complex ions from shrimp shells using crosslink method. Chitosan isolation was made in four stages, namely deproteination, demineralization, depigmentation and deacetylation. The maximum degree of deacetylation (DD) of chitosan is 89%. Based on XRD and FTIR data, chitosan obtained is in the form of amorphous and there are typical wave number of chitosan, namely 3444.91 cm-1 and 1658.4 cm-1 associated to O-H, N-H dan C=O.

Abstract

It has been conducted a study about the utilization of candle nut shell coal (aleurites moluccana L. Willd) as adsorbent for naphtole dye, which it aims to know the characteristics of optimum condition covering pH, contact time, and adsorption consentration, along with the adsorption capacity of candle nut shell active coal (Aleurites moluccana L. Willd) against naphtole dye. The characteristics determination of candle nut shell active coal was done by identification of functional groups using FTIR. The determination of surface area, porous volume and porous size using SAA. The characteristics result using FTIR exhibited that the coal before and after activation contains functional groups of –OH, Csp3-H, CH2, CH3, CO Eter, aromatic C=C, and aromatic C-H. while, characterization using SAA showed the active coal surface area obtained is 17,20 m2/g with porous voleme is 0,021 mL/g and porous size is 1,60 nm. The optimum condition of adsorbent in adsorbing naptol dye is 60 ppm, takes place at pH 5 with contact time of 120 minutes. The adsorption capacity measure result of candle nut active coal obtained is 3,850 mg/g. adsorption process of naphtole dye follows Langmuir isotherm with R2 is 0.8939 and adsorption energy is 99,942 Kj/mol.

Abstract

It has been done a research on the effect of the composition of gliricidia sepium Hbr. And cow dung with banana nutrition on the composting process on the C/N ratio. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the effect of the composition and the length of time required for fermentation. Composting was made with a variety of cow dung : gliricidia sepium Hbr. In a ratio of 1:9, 1:1, 3:2, 7:3, 9:1, and 2:3 in % by using 25% banana nutrition and 100% water from the total weight of the manure. On this research was found that the optimal time is on 14th day with characteristic of compost that was produced, equal with the the Indonesia National Standar (SNI Kompos 19-7030-2004). The conclusion is the compcsition of cow dung and Gliricidia sepium leaves did not significant affect to the C/N compost ratio.

Abstract

Synthesis of 1,5-Diphenylpenta-2,4-dien-1-one from local cinnamaldehyde has been done. Through aldol condensation reaction submission of local cinnamaldehyde with acetophenone in the presence of KOH resulted in 57% yellow oil confirmed as the desired product by GMMS analysis.

Abstract

A research on preparing activated charcoal from Terminalia catappa L. seed shell has been done. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of activated charcoal from Terminalia catappa L.seed shells and test its ability to reduce COD and TSS from a liquid waste of the tofu industry. The parameters studied in characterizing activated charcoal included moisture content, ash content, absorption of I2 and surface area using methylene blue. Analysis of the COD parameter used the redox titration method, while the TSS parameter used the gravimetric method. he optimum time for applying activated charcoal to liquid tofu waste was by measuring COD and TSS levels after interaction with activated charcoal. Results of activated charcoal characterization showed a moisture content of 5%, ash content of 2.10%, an absorption capacity of I2 761.4 mg/g and a surface area of 26.74 m²/g. The highest decrease in COD levels occurred at 90 minutes of contact time from initial levels of 2,976 mg/L to 2,304 mg/L, with a reduction efficiency of 22.6%, and the highest decrease in TSS levels occurred at 90 minutes of contact time from initial levels of 1,440 mg/L to 334 mg/L, with a reduction efficiency of 76.8%. Generally, activated charcoal from Terminalia catappa L. seed shells showed an ability to reduce the COD and TSS from the liquid waste of the tofu industry.
