Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in students' vocabulary mastery by using songs. This research was conducted using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were students in class VII D of Abul Barokat Islamic Middle School for the 2023/2024 academic year, a total of 28 students. The purpose of this research is to improve students' vocabulary mastery through English songs. This research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data is collected through qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data obtained by interviews and observation results. Then, quantitative data were obtained from the students' vocabulary scores from the pre-test, post-test. Based on the results of this study, it showed that there was progress in students' vocabulary mastery, as seen from the average pretest score of 66.07, the average posttest 1 score was 72.14, and the average posttest score. cycle 2 is 78.93. In addition, there were 5 students (18%) who passed the KKM on the pretest. Whereas in cycle 1 there were 15 students (54%) who passed the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM), and it was obtained in the post test cycle 2 that there were 24 students (86%) who passed. Criteria (KKM), so that success criteria are achieved. Then, the results show an increase and a positive response in the learning process of teaching vocabulary through English songs. Furthermore, the results of observations and interviews show that students are motivated in the teaching and learning process when using this English song.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the competence of lecturers at the Faculty of Culture, Management, and Business, Mandalika University of Education, in writing quality community service articles through the use of artificial intelligence technology, specifically ChatGPT and Scite.ai. The method used was an interactive workshop based on direct practice, equipped with a pre-test, delivery of theoretical materials, practice using AI, post-test, and reflection sessions. The analysis results showed a significant increase in post-test scores compared to the pre-test, with the majority of participants' N-gain being in the medium to high category. Participants were also able to produce draft community service articles with good to very good quality categories based on the assessment rubric. The level of participant satisfaction with the materials, methods, and implementation of the workshop was in the high category, indicating the success of the training approach used. This activity also contributed to the achievement of the SDGs, especially the goals of Quality Education (SDG 4), Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Partnership (SDG 17). This training can be replicated as a model for increasing lecturer capacity in the context of digital transformation of higher education.

Abstract

Di dalam pembelajaran menyimak (listening) pada Bahasa Inggris, kemampuan menyimak memiliki beberapa tingkatan yang harus dikuasai oleh peserta didik. Oleh karena itu para guru dan dosen senantiasa menyiapkan strategi yang tepat dalam memastikan peserta didiknya dapat melampaui setiap tingkatan tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pada tingkat manakah kemampuan menyimak mahasiswa semester 4 Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Nahdlatul Wathan Mataram dengan mengacu pada tingkatan yang dikeluarkan oleh CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Language) dan mengidentifikasi kesulitan-kesulitan yang dihadapi mahasiswa saat mengikuti ujian menyimak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan melibatkan 40 siswa semester 4 yang telah mendapatkan mata kuliah Listening 1, Listening 2, dan Advanced Listening. Untuk teknik pengambilan data, pemberian listening test dan wawancara diberikan kepada mahasiswa. Untuk listening test, diberikan sebanyak tiga kali. Tes ini digunakan untuk mendapatkan tingkat kemampuan menyimak mahasiswa dengan menggunakan lembar kerja yang disesuaikan dengan tingkat kesulitan CEFR. Setelah itu mahasiswa akan diwawancarai secara mendalam (in depth interview) untuk mengetahui kesulitan-kesulitan yang dihadapi mahasiswa saat mengerjakan tes dengan tingkat kesulitan CEFR. Hasil yang ditemukan pada penelitian ini adalah tingkat kemampuan menyimak mahasiswa berada pada tingkat Intermediate (B1). dalam penelitian ini ini juga ditemukan tiga faktor yang mempengaruhi mahasiswa sehingga mereka kesulitan saat proses belajar ataupun saat mengerjakan tes listening. Tiga faktor ini yaitu materi tes, perilaku mahasiswa saat belajar dan mengikuti tes listening, dan lingkungan atau situasi sekitar mahasiswa saat mengerjakan tes. Kata Kunci: Penilaian, kemampuan menyimak, CEFR In learning English, listening is implemented in some levels such as beginner, intermediate and advanced. These levels must be comprehended by the students. Therefore as a teacher or lecturer must be ready for the media and strategy in ensuring students’ listening comprehension in every level. This study aims to find out Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) level of the 4th students of English Department of Nahdlatul Wathan Mataram University who have passed the listening course of Listening 1, Listening 2 and Advanced Listening. And then, to find out the difficulties that were encountered by the students during the listening test using CEFR listening levels. The methodology of this research was qualitative descriptive. There were 40 students gathered to be a respondent. The data was taken by conducting a listening test to find out the students’ level through CEFR. The listening test was conducted three times by applying a five level worksheet that represented CEFR levels. And then an in depth interview was taken to seek students' difficulties that they faced during the listening test. The result of this study revealed that the level of the 4th semester of the English Department of University Nahdlatul Wathan Mataram is in Intermediate (B1) level. Based on students’ in-depth interview, it showed some factors that become an obstacle for students during the listening test. There are: listening material, students’ attitude and test environment.
