Abstract

Toba Water Catchment Area (WCA) is approximately 369,854 ha, consists of about 65% land and 35% water. In Lake Toba WCA there is a land area of 235. 217 ha(61.23%) is classified as critical and if it is not conserved will have a major impact on WCA quality. The criticality of the land around WCA Lake Toba gives a significant impact on the aesthetic side of WCA Lake Toba.The village of Lumban Suhi-suhi located in Samosir Regency is one of the tourist destination and found quite a lot of locations with the habitat of Imperata which an indicator of critical land. Local people maintains many endemic goats namely Goat Panorusan Samosir that require good quality feed.Moringa (Moringa oleifera) is a multi-functional plant, as the Moringa (Moringa oleifera) plant has a root nodule that captures N from the air and stores it on the root so Moringa can help fertilize the soil.This dedication has been done in October 2017 in Lumban Suhi-suhi Village, Samosir and the objectives is to train the community to cultivate the Moringa plant (Moringa oleifera). The output of this dedication are the community do conservation by planting Moringa so that Lumban Suhi-suhi village and its surrounding turns green and fertile and there will be available good quality goat feed. It is also expected that Lumban Suhi-suhi village becomes a tourist village that attracts more tourists.

Abstract

In supporting heritage tourism, emotional and psychological reactions between people and the places are required until the sites are no longer a mere identity of the geographical formation. The positive perception of people indicates satisfaction that is strongly influenced by the image of an urban area. The image defines the character of the place (spirit of place). In shaping the image of place, place identity takes a significant role and distinctiveness is one aspect of it that contributes in. This research aims to investigate the distinctiveness aspect and its influences in defining place identity of urban heritage area by using variable, i.e. landmark, uniqueness, particular character, and different perception. It focuses on the historical corridor of Medan City, Indonesia, chosen due to its significant role in the establishment of Medan City in past and the existence of historic buildings. This research combined qualitative and quantitative method through field observation and nine in-depth interviews as well as 360 questionnaires distribution, respectively to examine the perception of residents and visitors. This research contributes in defining place identity that can be used as evaluation and indicator for future planning. It will benefit in securing place identity towards support in urban heritage tourism that improves the quality of life. The result indicates that the existence of heritage buildings as landmark allows someone to have a unique affiliation to the research area. However, the diversity of interesting cultural activity, local product as well public facilities requires more improvement.

Abstract

Local Wisdom Approach on Social Aspect in Berastagi Night Tourism. Tourism is a strategic aspect that becomes a significant part of urban development. Night tourism is the kind of tourism which innovative and potential to develop. Berastagi is one of the popular tourist attractions in North Sumatra that has night tourism destinations. But nowadays, the negative image of night tourism that attaches to community life always be the obstacle in its developing process. Approaching the local wisdom in the night tourism social aspect is necessary to be held to create harmony between the night tourism and community. The descriptive qualitative analysis has been carried out with study the data from depth interview and field observation. Abstract

Spatial planning can improve one’s quality of life by enhancing the environmental quality and its potential. Thus, the application of the concept of identity into the planning process is essential in emphasizing the significance of a place, especially in heritage tourism area, where tourist satisfaction is obtained from the tourism objects peculiarities that become the place identity. However, similar studies are still limited so that this study will contribute to filling the gaps. This study is conducted in Maimoon Palace District, a historic area in Medan. This study aims to examine the application of the concept of spatial planning based on the area identity. A qualitative method is used to collect the data about spatial planning elements in the area. The findings indicate that the existing spatial planning has already contained the place identity. However, many problems in spatial planning elements still cause a chaotic view of the area. Therefore, the government should improve the area not only by improving the physical quality but also increasing tourist satisfaction to enhance tourism attractiveness.

Abstract

The business hotel is one of the facilities that support business work, and their activities are the reason of humans to travel some place for business in an area or urban areas. Dolok Sanggul Kab. Humbang Hasundutan is the one of area increasing their economy in every year with agriculture and hospitality sector as one of the driving axis of the economy in this area but, no one the hotel that supports business activities in around of this area. As one of the efforts undertaken to maintain the sustainability of natural, the design of Sustainable Architecture in the business hotels to be designed is very suitable theme be the reference to scheming business hotels in this area.

Abstract

Samosir is one of the famous tourist attraction for the beautiful view of nature of Lake Toba and some traditional cultural sites. Samosir began to start independent and has they have managing system for every area, and one of them is a tourist attraction. This area has the infrastructure that should be available very well, the most important thing in tourist attraction context in Samosir Island is the water crossing terminal because water transportation is the main part of tourist attractions life in Samosir Island. Tomok Village’s dock is one of the main doors that very busy with so many visits from the passenger. To provide a decent service, this dock is still far from expectations. Can be seen from the limit of the passengers this dock can afford, with the increasing intensity of passengers. However, this region needs to redevelopment using every single available potential. In the end, the dockyard should be attractive and give a great experience of Batak Toba culture. The designer will create the cultural experience through the display of the buildings. The designer hopes to facilitate passengers to cross the lake to Samosir island using Tomok village’s dockyard.

Abstract

Simalungun Regency is an autonomous region that has quite a wealth of natural resources that require maximum development. Tourism development in Simalungun Regency has a very significant and strategic meaning. A tourism sector is a mainstay plane that is expected to support the development of regional development. The tourism is also not free from the available facilities and infrastructure such as port as a means of transport inter-island liaison. The Tigaras Ferry pier is one of the existing ports to connect the Tigaras districts with Simanindo in Samosir District. Tigaras dock at this time not so noticed by the local government, but the area is an alternative port in the field as a liaison to the island of Samosir through Simanindo pier. Supporting infrastructure in the region is also inadequate. The arrangement of Tigaras and the design of dock terminal building and public place using organic theme then produce that connect the aspect of the outer and inner space. Buildings with the formation of a mass of course organic, as well as the public area that can attract visitors to be more environmentally conscious. Through this revitalization, the designer hopes to facilitate passengers or people who will cross to Samosir Island by using this Tigaras dock.

Abstract

Nowadays, tourism has an important place in urban development, where every city competes to improve their tourism. Night tourism, as the new strategy in tourism development, needs to be given attention from the stakeholder. The two most important aspects of the night tourism development are environmental and night atmosphere. Increasing the aspect of night tourism cannot be separated from the local wisdom-based. Berastagi is the most popular tourist destination in Karo Regency, which has a night tourism destination. Not only it, but Berastagi also has an authentic culture from the Karonessse tradition. Unfortunately, both of these potentials have not developed yet as the strength of tourist attraction in Berastagi. This paper aims to find how are the development of the environment and atmosphere aspect of Berastagi Night Tourism based on local wisdom. This research used a descriptive qualitative method which analyzes data collected by field observation and depth interview. The study shows that involving local wisdom in developing the environment and night atmosphere can build a specific identity for the town night tourism.

Abstract

Penerapan konsep keberlanjutan pada pariwisata sangatlah penting untuk menjaga keberlansungan serta menyeimbangkan nilai-nilai yang terkandung di dalamnya. Di lain sisi, pariwisata merupakan sebuah produk rekreasional yang mengandalkan keunikan suatu tempat. Keberadaan landmark pada suatu kawasan menimbulkan keunikan sehingga meningkatkan nilai distinctiveness. Nilai distinctiveness pada akhirnya akan mempengaruhi keputusan wisatawan dalam memilih tempat wisatanya dan menentukan loyalitas wisatawan terhadap satu tempat wisata. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian terhadap peran landmark pada aspek lingkungan dari pariwisata berkelanjutan yang berfokus pada pariwisata yang ada di Pulau Samosir, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran dengan melakukan penyebaran kuesioner kepada 105 responden, observasi lapangan, dan wawancara terhadap narasumber. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keserasian antara bangunan baru dengan bangunan tradisional serta antara bangunan baru dengan lingkungannya memiliki pengaruh yang tinggi dalam menaikkan nilai landmark pada pariwisata berkelanjutan pada kawasan kajian.

Abstract

Tourism is one of the industries that can improve the welfare of the people in  an area, one.of.which is heritage.tourism. Visits to heritage tourism are one of  the fastest growing tourist activities, so heritage tourism is an asset that should  be developed by each region. In heritage tourism, there is a place attachment.  Place attachment is a bond made by humans with a place. One aspect of the  formation of place attachment is the meaning of place. A historical tourist  attraction that has a place attachment is the Rumah Balai Ujung Tanjung  Tanjungbalai. This study aims to analyze aspects of the meaning of the place  owned by Rumah Balai. The.research.method used in this.research is a  concurrent mixedmethod. The results of the analysis carried out stated that the  aspect of the meaning of the place owned by Rumah Balai Ujung Tanjung is  still low and this can be improved by increasing aspects of physical  characteristics and aspects of social interaction. So that it can increase the  number of visitors who come.
