Abstract

Abstract

Nowadays, eating and drinking is not only a basic need but also has become one of the tourist destinations. Tongging Village is one of the tourist villages with views of Lake Toba and its grilled fish that has the potential to develop culinary and shopping tourism. Besides, Tongging Village is also directed by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism to become a culinary tourism and shopping center on Lake Toba. In designing a culinary tourism center and shopping, the application of green architecture is the right choice by utilizing natural resources and not damaging existing natural conditions. The design method was carried out qualitatively by a sequential systematic process and taking data through field surveys and interviews with the headman and local communities so that it produces points that could be used in designing. The design of culinary tourism and shopping centers with the application of green architecture aims to utilize natural resources without damaging natural conditions and attract tourist enthusiasm so that culinary and shopping tourism centers become one of the main tourist destinations for the Lake Toba Region which will affect the income of Indonesia's creative economy. Abstract

Tourism is highly dependent on the attractiveness and interest of tourists and local people to visit these destinations. When tourism is linked to the success of a city in supporting its economy, questions will arise about who has an emotional attraction to tourist destinations and what is the comparison between the levels of visits by local and foreign tourists to tourist destinations, especially religious tourism. The existence of an emotional bond between tourists and tourist destinations will help the level of visits that occur in the future. By using an emotional bond approach between visitors and religious tourism destinations, a comparison of the level of visits by local and foreign tourists will arise, so this problem becomes a complex matter to discuss. One of the tourist destinations that is experiencing regional development is the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, Banda Aceh City, which is better known as religious tourism. In addition, this area has a very high level of visits, caused by changes and developments in the region. Therefore, this study aims to find the level of comparison of the number of visits by local and foreign tourists through the emotional ties of visitors and what factors can encourage tourists' desire to visit. The method used in this study is a mixture of qualitative and quantitative data obtained from literature studies, distributing questionnaires, field observations, and interviews; distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents, namely tourists and the surrounding community; conducting field observations at the research location; and conducted in-depth interviews with eight key informants, namely local community leaders, tourism practitioners, government officials, and academics. It will be analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method to produce comparative findings through the data obtained. This literature review can be applied by stakeholders as an evaluation tool in developing tourism, especially religious tourism in an area.

Abstract

This study analyzes the uniqueness of geodiversity, ecology, and culture as the foundation for sustainable geotourism development in Brand District, Karo Regency. Using a mixed methods approach (questionnaire N=100, interview n=6, observation), the results showed that the uniqueness of Brand's geodiversity lies in the volcanic phenomena of the Toba Caldera such as Sipiso-piso Waterfall (120 m) and Bukit Gajah Bobok which are rich in potassium and magnesium minerals. MANOVA's analysis showed a significant difference in the perception of tourists and the public towards geological uniqueness (p<0.05). Ecologically, volcanic soils with low total dissolved solids (TDS) (<150 ppm) support organic agriculture, although they are threatened by land conversion (25% reduced agricultural land) and plastic waste (volume decreased by 30% through the waste bank program). Local cultures such as Ulos weaving and the Erpangir Ku Lau ritual are identity differentiators, but their marketing is limited locally without certification. The integration of all three aspects requires technological innovation (augmented reality for geological interpretation), diversification of cultural products (craft training), and data-driven spatial planning policies. Strategic recommendations include strengthening community participation through Pokdarwis, a circular economy through recycling waste into handicrafts, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to make Brand a model of sustainable geotourism in Indonesia. This research emphasizes that the synergy of technological innovation, active community participation, and holistic policies are the keys to the success of geotourism development.

Abstract

Community service is one of the core activities of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This activity is carried out as an effort to apply practical scientific knowledge to comprehensively address community problems in the field by involving both the community and university lecturers collaboratively. The current community service activity focuses on urban spatial planning issues in the Jl. Mahkamah area, Medan Kota District, Medan City, North Sumatra. The theme of this project is "Little Turkey," which is related to the Al-Mashun Mosque by proposing urban space designs and building facades along Jl. Mahkamah. The implementation of this community service follows a series of stages, starting with field surveys, conducting the first and second meetings, and finally delivering the final design to the local government and community. The outcome of this community service is expected to serve as an initial step toward further developing and enhancing the architectural quality of Medan City and improving the local community’s economy.
