Abstract

Tanjung Seloka Village is one of many villages located in the coastal area of Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan. Because it is located on the coast, many people there work or have a livelihood in the field of marine products, from fishermen, collectors, and retailers, to fish traders in the market. In addition to being very far from the city center, this village is also not easily accessible due to road conditions that are not fully supported. This situation then affects many aspects of life in Tanjung Seloka Village, both educational, economic, social, and the environment in general. One of the problems that occur in Tanjung Seloka Village is the lack of public insight regarding applicable government regulations related to the management of coastal and marine areas, which may be due to problems of distance, access, and so that the government is lacking in providing socialization to the community.

Abstract

This study analyzes the potential of the traditional performing art Cupak Gurantang in supporting cultural tourism in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Indonesia. Cupak Gurantang is a distinctive folk theater from Lombok that conveys moral and social values through the conflict between Cupak, a cunning character, and Gerantang, an honest one. Through this narrative, the performance functions not only as entertainment but also as a medium for moral education within the community. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, observations, documentation, and literature review as data collection methods. Analysis is conducted through a SWOT method and a participatory approach to explore the cultural functions, preservation challenges, and development strategies. The findings indicate that Cupak Gurantang plays a significant role in preserving local cultural identity and strengthening moral values among society. However, several challenges persist, including limited regeneration of young performers, financial constraints, and the marginalization of traditional arts within a tourism sector that tends to prioritize natural attractions. The study recommends community empowerment, youth training, innovative performance presentations, and the use of digital promotion and integration into cultural tourism packages. With these strategies, Cupak Gurantang holds substantial potential to become a sustainable cultural tourism attraction in West Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

his article aims to examine the integration of positive psychology into education through a literature review, with the goal of understanding its contribution to enhancing learning quality and student well-being. Positive psychology is viewed as a new paradigm that emphasizes the development of strengths, happiness, and resilience, positioning education not solely as a means to achieve academic success but also as a process for fostering character and mental health. The study employs a systematic literature review method by analyzing various relevant primary and secondary sources. The analysis focuses on the core concepts of positive psychology, its application in educational settings, the benefits it brings, as well as the challenges and opportunities related to its implementation across diverse contexts. The findings suggest that integrating positive psychology yields a range of benefits, including increased learning motivation, student engagement, mental well-being, prosocial behavior, and academic achievement. This approach also helps cultivate an inclusive school climate and strengthens students' sense of connection to their learning environment. However, implementation still faces several challenges, such as the dominance of academic achievement-oriented approaches, limited teacher understanding, and the lack of longitudinal research. The article concludes that positive psychology holds significant potential to be integrated into education systems—particularly through curriculum design, character development programs, and the use of digital technology. With systematic and context-sensitive strategies, positive psychology can serve as a critical foundation for building a holistic, balanced, and happiness-oriented educational model that promotes student well-being.

Abstract

Peatland fires have been a long-standing topic of discussion in combating greenhouse gas effects, especially in Indonesia, which has the largest tropical peatlands in the world. However, peatland fires have their own complexities, one of which is that hotspots do not always reflect the amount of carbon emissions. This study was conducted in the Kahayan-Sebangau Peatland Hydrological Unitary (KHG) by integrating several spatial data sets: MODIS hotspot distribution data from 2019 to 2022, peat thickness data, forest area status data, land cover data from 2018 and 2022 with carbon content values based on the 2015 national guidelines of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). Carbon emissions were estimated from changes in land cover and carbon reserves per hectare. The results show that Production Forests (HP) contribute >40% of total hotspots and >80% of carbon emissions, while Conversion Production Forests (HPK) have the highest hotspot density at 1.08 hotspots/km2 and the highest carbon emissions are found in the deep peat thickness class. This study found that the status of forest areas and peat thickness greatly determine the amount of carbon emissions from a fire, as indicated by the distribution of hotspots.

Abstract

Landscape transformation driven by rapid urbanization is a primary determinant of microclimate change in peri-urban regions. This study aims to analyze the spatiotemporal dynamics of land surface temperature (LST) and its relationship with vegetation density (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index/NDVI) in the Southern Jember landscape. Utilizing Landsat 7 ETM+ and Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS imagery from 2001, 2013, and 2025, this research evaluates the impact of land cover changes on the regional thermal regime and vegetation index variability. The results reveal a fundamental landscape transition, where the dominance of paddy fields shrank drastically from 66.400 ha (2001) to 13.800 ha (2025), replaced by a massive expansion of settlements reaching 82,900 ha. This shift triggered a significant surface urban heat island (SUHI) phenomenon. Settlement areas recorded an extreme maximum LST of 38,1°C in 2025, a sharp increase compared to the initial study period. Spectral analysis confirms that the rise in LST has a negative correlation with NDVI. This evidence suggests that the loss of vegetation biomass and the increase in impervious surfaces due to uncontrolled urbanization are the primary drivers of environmental warming in South Jember. These findings underscore the urgency of climate-mitigation-based spatial planning strategies for regional sustainability.
