Abstract

Hiyung Village is part of Tapin Tengah District, Tapin Regency, South Kalimantan. Besides rice, superior agricultural commodities in this village is Hiyung Cayenne Pepper. High demand and prices have caused more and more cayenne pepper to be cultivated. Hiyung Cayenne Pepper Cultivation is expected to increase farmers' income, so efforts are needed so that agricultural activities can continue. The sustainability of agricultural can be maintained if they are managed well. Appropriate management actions can be implemented if the soil and land characteristics are known. Soil is one of the things that really determines the success of an agricultural business, especially the availability of nutrients. Analysis of the secondary mineral composition of soil (sand) is very important in order to determine the nutrient reserves in the soil. Information about nutrient reserves in the soil can be used as a basis for good soil management so that it meets plant needs and does not cause damage to the soil and the environment. The specific aim of this research is to determine the composition of primary minerals (sand) to identify nutrient reserves in the soil. This research was carried out using a survey method to obtain data or information on soil and land characteristics and current management. Observations and soil sampling in the field were carried out at 5 locations with a distance of 1 km between locations. Sand mineral analysis uses a polarizing microscope to determine the mineral composition. Primary minerals (sand) at the research location are dominated by rock fragments and quartz. The weatherable mineral content is very small so the potential for nutrient reserves is very small.

Abstract

Abstract

The increasing popularity of equestrian activities today for sports, entertainment, recreation, hobbies, and lifestyles has had a positive impact with the emergence of several horse riding training areas and horse-breeding in South Kalimantan, especially in Banjarbaru City. The horse stables at the horse riding training areas will produce waste in the form of horse manure, both solid (feces) and liquid (urine). Poor waste management of horse manure will hurt the environment. This community service activity aims to provide an eco-friendly solution to the problem of a pile of horse manure in horse stables. Based on the discussions between the community service team and the owner of one of the horse farms in Banjarbaru City, Johnhaus Stable, a solution was provided in the form of training in making compost fertilizer made from horse manure. The training began with a presentation on compost making and was followed by practice in making compost from horse manure. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test given to participants, there has been a significant increase in the interest and knowledge of the participants regarding compost fertilizer.

Abstract

Podzolic soil fertility and health are generally low due to its poor physical and chemical properties. Consequently, the use of organic soil amendments is essential to improve these properties and provide essential nutrients. Palm oil mill sludge solid waste is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium which makes it a suitable fertilizer. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of palm oil mill sludge solid waste application on the availability of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in podzolic soil and corn (Zea mays) production. The experiment was conducted in a pot using a single factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The findings showed that application of palm oil mill sludge solid waste to podzolic soil increased the availability of nutrients N-NH4+, N-NO3-, available P and available K and the fresh and dry weight of corn plants. However, it did not increase soil pH. Treatment P4 (20 t ha-1) produced the highest values of N-NH4+, N-NO3-, available P, available K and the fresh and dry weight of corn plants, making it the most effective treatment for the utilization of palm oil mill sludge on Podzolic soil.

Abstract

Coffee is one of Indonesia’s most prominent agricultural commodities; various coffee plants are produced with the best results from the west to the east of Indonesia. Indonesia’s climate and geographical location are suitable for cultivating the coffee plant. This study aims to determine the level of land suitability and the limiting factors for the development of coffee plants, as well as provide direction/recommendations in the development of coffee plants in Rantau Pulut Village, Seruyan Regency, Central Kalimantan. Land suitability has the potential to be increased from S2 to S1 by managing the limiting factors for the number of dry months and rainfall, SB (Saturated Base), pH, P2O5, and K2O so that the potential land suitability for the study area is S2r. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive survey method with a matching system, namely matching land quality/land characteristics with land use requirements for agricultural commodities to be developed. The result of the actual land suitability analysis of Rantau Pulut Village for developing robusta coffee plants is S3fn
