Abstract

Nipa Island is one of the outermost islands in the Sangihe Islands Regency, precisely in the Kec. Nusa Tabukan where most of the people on the island work as fishermen, transportation access to districts or between sub-districts and even between villages can only be reached by sea so when bad weather hits the area is often isolated. The characteristics of the area mentioned above do not be surprised if people often experience health problems related to the sea, including marine animals, decompression sickness, even cardiac arrest, and bad things that will cause delays in getting action. The purpose of this Community Service activity is to increase knowledge in fishing groups with the workshop method on the first action in an emergency at sea so that it is hoped that when an emergency occurs, the family or community immediately provides such action at the scene. The community service activity was carried out on Monday, July 26, 2021, at the Nusa Tabukan District Hall, and the participants were representatives of fishermen groups in 5 villages/islands which operated 21 people. The knowledge of participants before and before the extension activities, the results showed an increase in public knowledge where the average value was at point 8 (53.33 percent) with the moderate category increasing to an average of 14 (93.33 percent) with good criteria. After this activity was carried out, the community participated in the activity who had good knowledge of first aid for marine accidents. It is hoped that the participants will be able to spread the knowledge gained to their neighbors or friends, and can actively increase their knowledge through electronic media.

Indonesia is an archipelago country and it has a long and beautiful coastline. The Sangihe Islands Regency, especially Kampung Kuma I, is an area located on the coast. Most of the community has a profession as fishermen and farmers. Besides that, the beautiful beaches stretch out beautifully. Abstract

Health issues occurring in schools must be addressed promptly to prevent the escalation of diseases. The considerable distance between schools and healthcare facilities presents a significant challenge in managing health-related incidents. The geographical remoteness from healthcare facilities, the vulnerability of adolescents to diseases, and the lack of understanding regarding the importance of prevention over treatment were key considerations for the team in selecting an appropriate method for training emergency response among students at Madrasah Aliyah Pettta, Sangihe Island Regency, North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The target group was students in grades 10 and 11. Health education was provided to these students, who were gathered at the school, with the materials delivered by facilitators. Following the educational sessions, practical demonstrations of skills that could be employed to manage specific health conditions were conducted. Participants were then allowed to practice these skills independently. The effectiveness of the activity was assessed through a pre- and post-test to evaluate participants’ understanding of the material. The material was well received by the participants, as evidenced by an increase in their knowledge. Before the session, they had only 32% knowledge, but after the health education sessions, it increased to 93%. Students were also able to perform the skills taught independently. The provision of the health equipment was expected to assist the school in managing unforeseen health emergencies during school events or activities. Emergency response training for students significantly enhances both their skills and knowledge. Identifying common health issues in the community is essential, as it allows for the delivery of targeted health education that empowers students to assist their families at home.
