Abstract

A B S T R A C TThis study aims to describe the characterization of feminism movement figures in Sibel Eraslan's novel “ Aisyah ( Wanita Yang Hadir Dalam Mimpi Rasulullah )”, which reflects the reality of women's lives and the struggle for equality between men and women. The author is interested in researching this novel, because this novel is able to present wise or intelligent female characters in carrying out feminist movements to break down those who narrow the space for women's movements by using the feminist literary criticism approach. The research data is qualitative data in the form of facts, information, statements or descriptions obtained by researchers from research sources, namely the novel Aisyah ( Wanita Yang Hadir Dalam Mimpi Rasulullah ) by Sibel Eraslan. The data collection technique uses descriptive qualitative methods that focus on content analysis, which is an in-depth analysis of the content of written information.

Abstract

A number of studies on Literasi Bahasa Inggris in SNBT have been extensively researched in educational communication; however, few studies have investigated the challenges of Literasi Bahasa Inggris queries among secondary school students. This study was conducted to determine the difficulties that high school students faced when answering Literasi Bahasa Inggris questions on the SNBT test. The method employed in this research is qualitative method. This study focused on high school pupils who had taken the SNBT test. According to the findings of this study, the most significant issue in the Literasi Bahasa Inggris test was a lack of vocabulary, which led to frustration when they saw vocabulary-related questions, and it was still difficult for them to answer questions about assumptions and hypotheses in the text due to a lack of logical thinking. They also believed that the time allotted to answer the questions was insufficient. So, according to the research, in order to overcome these difficulties, high school students must improve their vocabulary mastery related to Literasi Bahasa Inggris questions both at home and at school, as well as their logical thinking and ability to manage time so that it is easier to work on problems in the Literasi Bahasa Inggris section

Abstract

The Snowball Throwing Games method has proven effective in enhancing students' descriptive writing skills. Beyond measurable improvements in academic performance, this interactive and collaborative approach increased student motivation and fostered a more engaging classroom atmosphere. The method encouraged active participation, creativity, and self-expression, helping students build confidence and develop their writing abilities. Moreover, the method significantly improved students’ social interaction and teamwork, which positively influenced their ability to collaborate during writing tasks. Particularly in writing classes often perceived as challenging, the dynamic and supportive environment reduced student anxiety and minimized the fear of making mistakes. Each phase of implementation was strategically designed to facilitate classroom communication and highlight various aspects of the Snowball Throwing Games technique. These included student engagement, behavioral change, the development of critical thinking skills, and the integration of digital tools to support learning goals. The findings indicate that this method is both practical and effective in improving writing proficiency while fostering a positive and collaborative learning environment.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service is to enhance English language teachers' skills through English Literacy instruction training for the computer-Based Written Examination (UTBK). This activity responds to the need to improve English language teaching quality, particularly in English Literacy in schools. English teachers from SMAS Harapan 3 Deli Lama participated in the training. The program consists of theoretical and practical sessions aimed at enhancing participants' understanding of English Literacy teaching strategies and structures. Additionally, it seeks to improve their overall English proficiency. English pre- and post-tests, along with participant satisfaction questionnaires, were used for evaluation. Evaluation results show that teachers achieved higher English scores post-training. Participants also reported increased confidence, improved English literacy teaching skills, and appreciation for relevant and beneficial training materials.

Abstract

Reading comprehension means extracting necessary information from a written text as efficiently as possible, rejecting unnecessary information and quickly finding what one is looking for. The main purpose of the writer in this study is to improve the student’s reading skill of Students at the third grade in official school tutoring Master Plato College. This gist of activity in this study is to focuses on how to understand the text, get the essential and detail information from the synopsis of the first harry potter film “Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s stone (2001)”, there 12 students in this class which consisting of 8 female students and 14 male students, so the total of the students is 22 students. There are some benefits and significances of using metacognitive reading strategies in fostering reading success such as 1) Enhanced Comprehension and Retention, 2) Improved Problem-Solving Skills, 3) Increased Reading Engagement and Motivation, 4) Transferability of Skills. Metacognitive reading strategies help the students learn independently and enhance students' ability to make sense of, monitor, and understand text and evaluate the text they read. Metacognitive Reading Strategy helps students control their thinking while reading. Metacognitive reading strategies play a vital role in fostering reading success by improving comprehension, retention, critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and overall engagement with the text.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the different types of errors that ninth-grade students at SMPN 1 Kuta Buluh, Tanah Karo committed when writing narrative texts during the academic year 2022–2023. There were 28 students in this study. The author used a qualitative descriptive approach. On Friday, May 19, 2023, an offline investigation was conducted. The researchers looked into the narrative text writing errors made by the students. The categorization of student writing errors was the study's main goal. The Surface Strategy Taxonomy analysis of the results revealed 40 mistakes in the students' narrative text. 11 addition mistakes totaling 27.5% were made, as were 20 omission mistakes totaling 50%, 7 misformation mistakes totaling 17.5%, and 2 misordering mistakes totaling 5%. The most typical mistake is omission (20).

Abstract

This study explores the application of the clustering technique to enhance creative writing on the descriptive text for junior high school students at SMP Marisi Medan. The research question focuses on assessing the effectiveness of the clustering technique in writing descriptive text. The objective is to determine whether the use of the clustering technique significantly affect to enhance students' writing skills. The research adopts a pre-experimental design, within the population of 298 eighth-grade students. The sample consists of 20 students, selected through purposive sampling. The research employs a writing test comprising both pre-test and post-test assessments. Following the application of the clustering technique in teaching descriptive writing, the post-test mean score (79.0) surpasses the pre-test mean score (64.0). The hypothesis testing results, with a Sig. (2-tailed) score of 0.000 less than 0.05, lead to the rejection of H0 and acceptance of H1. In essence, the findings indicate a significant positive impact of utilizing the clustering technique on the effectiveness of students' descriptive writing skills.

Abstract

In writing descriptive text, there are five aspects that need to be considered: identification, description, language use, vocabulary, and mechanics. Based on the problems identified at the beginning of the research, the aim of this research is to assess students’ ability to write descriptive text was determine students' abilities in writing descriptive texts for class XI students at SMK PANGERAN ANTASARI. This research focuses on 23 students. Researchers apply qualitative methods. This research was carried out directly on Tuesday, May 21 in class XI of SMK PANGERAN ANTASARI. Researchers examined deficiencies in students' descriptive text writing. This research focuses on categorizing students' writing errors. Data was obtained through a descriptive text-writing test. The results of the research show that students’ abilities in writing identification varied from bad to good, their ability in writing descriptions was less than satisfactory, their ability in using language, vocabulary and mechanics was also less than satisfactory. Additionally the research shows that students experience struggles in clearly identifying objects, developing ideas related to their lack of understanding of the structure of the simple present tense, as well as facing limitations in vocabulary and making mechanical mistakes.

Abstract

This article discusses grammatical error in social media post. The objectives are to investigate the types of common errors by social media users. By describing the dominant errors and also elaborate on the reason why social media users did the errors on their posts. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative the subject of this study consisted of 30 akum social media users, 15 from facebook and 15 from instagram. Author make social media as a samples. Findings show that there were some types of errors such as ommision 10 (33,3%), addition 4 (13,3%), misordering 7 (23,3%), misformation 9 (30%). Thus ommision is the dominant type found. Errors occur because social media users do not understand the structure of language and writing English correctly. in addition, users often make errors in their post, sometimes only as a style and aiming for rumors but without realizing it causes fatal irregularities. A part from that the curiosity of social media users in understanding English is still lacking.
