Abstract

YouTube is a popular platform for sharing educational videos, including those that assist language learners. This Classroom Action Research study was conducted at Universitas Harapan Bangsa, Central Java, to evaluate the effectiveness of YouTube videos in enhancing students' literal and inferential listening comprehension skills at Language Development Center program. The population for this study consists of first-semester students from the D4 Anesthesiology Nursing Program in the Faculty of Health. The research aimed to determine (1) the impact of YouTube on listening skills and (2) the challenges encountered in its implementation. Conducted over two cycles, the study utilized observations, journals, and questionnaires for data collection, analyzing both qualitative and quantitative results. Findings revealed that YouTube videos significantly improve students' listening skills, create a positive classroom atmosphere, and boost motivation for out-of-class practice, particularly through exposure to diverse English accents. Additionally, the integration of multimedia resources supports differentiated learning, catering to various student needs and learning styles. However, challenges such as unstable internet connections and students' preferences for familiar accents were identified. Overall, YouTube videos are effective tools for teaching listening skills and offer great potential for enhancing other aspects of language learning, warranting further exploration in educational research. Keywords: YouTube Videos, Listening Comprehension, Literal Listening Skills, Inferential Listening Skills.

This study investigates cultural representation in Indonesian young learners' EFL textbooks with a focus on the balance between the local, target, and international cultures. Based on content analysis of the My Next Words series, the study concludes a dominant representation of local culture, raising issues about limited intercultural exposure. Abstract

This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in enhancing the writing skills of grade XI students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto. The study used a quasi-experimental design with an experimental group taught using PjBL and a control group using Direct Instruction (DI). The sample consisted of 59 students, and data were collected through pre-test and post-test measuring their argumentative writing skills. The results indicated that the experimental group showed a significant improvement in their writing skills, with an average increase of 10.24 points (Δ = 10.24) compared to the control group's 6.13 points (Δ = 6.13). The independent t-test results demonstrated a significant difference between the two groups at the 0.004 level. These findings suggest that PjBL is more effective than DI in enhancing students' writing abilities, fostering creativity, and encouraging critical thinking. The study highlights the importance of implementing innovative, student-centered approaches in writing instruction.
