Abstract

Tujuan program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mengenai manajemen keuangan kepada para pelaku UMKM di Desa Panembangan Kecamatan Cilongok Kabupaten Banyumas. Target yang ingin dicapai dengan memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada UMKM dalam pengembangan usaha melalui pelatihan dan bimbingan dalam meningkatkan manajemen keuangan UMKM secara sederhana. Adapun prospek pengembangan UMKM dikaji berdasarkan pada analisa keuangan. Rencana kegiatan program PKM ini adalah melakukan sosialisasi kepada pelaku UMKM, penyiapan peralatan pelatihan yang menunjang keberhasilan PKM, melakukan bimbingan terhadap pelaku UMKM dalam menyusun laporan keuangan, melakukan pelatihan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan  keterampilan baik melalui workshop maupun kegiatan-kegiatan lain, serta monitoring dan evaluasi kegiatan untuk menunjang keberhasilan dan keberlanjutan usaha.

Abstract

The research method for utilizing memes in English writing instruction involves several steps, beginning with the identification and selection of relevant memes aligned with learning objectives. These memes aim to foster creativity and enhance students' comprehension of English content. Following this, writing activities integrated with memes are designed and implemented to stimulate critical thinking and expression in diverse contexts. The method's effectiveness is evaluated by analyzing students' writing quality pre and post-meme incorporation, along with gathering feedback to assess its success in enhancing English comprehension. The findings highlight the significance of meme integration in engaging students effectively, stimulating creativity, and enhancing comprehension. Moreover, the memes consistently prompted improved critical thinking and expression among students in various contexts, contributing to enhanced language proficiency and originality. However, educators should curate memes thoughtfully to ensure relevance and educational value, with ongoing professional development crucial for maximizing the method's potential. In conclusion, meme integration has proven to be a dynamic pedagogical tool, enhancing student engagement, critical thinking, and writing skills, yet necessitating careful curation and continual educator development for its effective implementation.

Abstract

This study is entitled “Translating Climate Change Texts of Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) Website from English Into Indonesian.” This text was chosen because it is informative and very relevant to the problems in the world that it feels can provide benefits for the readers. This text describes how dangerous climate change is and how the NRDC organization seeks to protect the world, people, plants, animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. The purpose of implementing this study is to translate texts and apply the translation knowledge gained during the lecture period. This translation process has been carried out from September until December 2022. There were four stages in translating these texts: analysis stage, transfer stage, restructuring stage, evaluation, and revision stage. The analysis stage at this stage reads the entire transcript, the transfer stage is carried out on the brain to analyze and translate the SL to TL, and the restructuring at this stage, the text that has been translated at the transfer stage attempts to restructure. Evaluation and revision, at this stage the evaluation and revision of the translation results are carried out by reading carefully if after rereading there are still words or sentences that are mistranslated, revisions are made to achieve the natural result. During the translation process of the text on climate change from the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) website for example, The obstacles were within selecting the precise word from the source language into the target language, a less-known of understanding of the specific terminology used when translating climate change texts, and limited knowledge of source language idioms which hindered the translation process. The solutions to overcome the obstacles are: consulting with the supervisors, understanding the words or sentences the approach taken during the translation process, look for idiom words in online or offline dictionaries.

Abstract

The community service presents the results of training in the development of the innovative learning media "SCoEP" (Smart Card of English Pronunciation) based on the mnemonic method to improve the English pronunciation skills of Vocational High School (SMK) students. Through a series of stages, ranging from needs analysis, media design, development training, to implementation and evaluation, the "SCoEP" learning media was successfully developed and implemented at SMKN 1 Purwokerto. The results of the training show that the training in developing the "SCoEP" media is effective in improving the English pronunciation skills of SMK students. This is indicated by an increase in the average score from the pre-test to the post-test by 27.38%. The "SCoEP" learning media, which integrates visual elements, phonetic transcripts, and technology through QR codes, has been proven to help students remember vocabulary pronunciation more easily. This training also fostered enthusiasm and student participation in the learning process. These findings imply that the "SCoEP" learning media can be an effective and innovative solution to improve English pronunciation skills in Vocational High Schools. This media can be a development model that can be applied more widely to improve the quality of English language learning in SMK schools.

Abstract

Proyek pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada peningkatan keterampilan berbicara di depan umum dalam bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SMA dan MA di Kabupaten Cilacap, mengatasi masalah umum terkait rendahnya kemampuan di bidang ini. Tujuan dari program ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa dan memperdalam penguasaan teknik penyampaian pidato. Program ini menggabungkan sesi pelatihan, simulasi, dan latihan individu maupun kelompok sebagai pendekatan utamanya. Melalui metode interaktif dan praktis ini, siswa diperkenalkan pada berbagai aspek berbicara di depan umum yang efektif, termasuk modifikasi suara, bahasa tubuh, dan keterlibatan audiens. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kepercayaan diri dan keterampilan teknis, membuktikan efektivitas inisiatif pengabdian masyarakat ini dalam membekali siswa dengan alat komunikasi penting untuk masa depan mereka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji efektivitas teknik penggabungan kalimat dalam meningkatkan kefasihan menulis dan efikasi diri mahasiswa dalam mata kuliah Menulis Dasar. Teknik penggabungan kalimat melibatkan integrasi dua atau lebih kalimat pendek dan terputus-putus menjadi kalimat yang lebih kompleks dan koheren, sehingga mendorong kematangan sintaksis dan kelancaran tulisan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi-eksperimen yang melibatkan 10 mahasiswa tahun pertama program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris. Kelompok eksperimen (5 mahasiswa) mendapatkan pembelajaran melalui tugas penggabungan kalimat, sedangkan kelompok kontrol (5 mahasiswa) diajar menggunakan metode penulisan konvensional berbasis latihan tata bahasa. Tes awal dan tes akhir digunakan untuk mengukur kefasihan menulis berdasarkan panjang kalimat, kompleksitas gramatikal, dan kohesi, sementara kuesioner efikasi diri digunakan untuk menilai tingkat kepercayaan diri mahasiswa dalam kemampuan menulis mereka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada kefasihan menulis dan skor efikasi diri kelompok eksperimen, yang mengindikasikan bahwa teknik penggabungan kalimat secara efektif dapat meningkatkan kinerja dan kepercayaan diri dalam menulis. Teknik ini direkomendasikan bagi pengampu mata kuliah Menulis Dasar sebagai strategi pembelajaran untuk mendukung pengembangan keterampilan menulis akademik sejak dini.

Abstract

Sanggar Kegiatan Belajar is one of the non-formal and informal educational institutions (PNFI) that organizes learning activities for the equivalency program. The problem that occurs in Purwokerto SKB is that the age of the learning citizens in a study group is various, each has different needs so that the sustainability of the program is difficult to maintain. Heterogeneous input of students and most of them come from the lower middle economic class and including families of recipients of the PKH program from the government is also one of the triggers for problems in learning. In addition, the absence of English language training is one of the problems that occur in SKB considering that English can be used as a plus point for students to get a job. The English language skills of the Paket C (SMA Equivalent) equivalency program students are still very low as evidenced by the average score of the final even semester test for the 2018/2019 academic year, which is 56.17 and the average score of UNBK in 2018 was 34.19. The lack of facilities and infrastructure that support the teaching and learning process of English is part of the causes of students' low English proficiency apart from input factors, student characteristics, interest and student motivation to learn. The use of learning methods that are fun, interactive, exploratory, systematic, creative and innovative is very helpful in improving students' English skills. The 2C method is a combination of two methods, namely the cooperative learning method and the contextual teaching and learning method. In this Community Partnership Program, the 2C method was used to train Paket C program students in improving their English language skills. Moreover, this Community Partnership Program was aimed to provide training to students in increasing their interest and motivation to learn English. The result of the training revealed that there was a significant improvement in students’ learning interest and motivation as well as their English performance.
