Abstract

The research examines the thoughts of Pierre Bourdieu dan Theo van Leuween in uncovering symbolic violence against women in the social media Facebook account of Indonesian Photography Community (KFI). The meaning of image (portrait of women) through social semiotics by van Leuween is a result of the researcher’s analysis, both subjective and objective, which is confirmed by the informant and followed by in-depth analysis of the thoughts of Boudieu on Habitus, doxa, capital and arena as structures that form symbolic violence. The symbolic violence against women center on breast, use of photography attribution (camera, telephoto lens, tripod, camera bag, shirt) to dominate women, use of rude words in the KFI Facebook group, and types of clothes the women are wearing during photo session. The main result of this research argues that photography is the core medium to dominate womenand facebook group KFI as the arena that was constructed by the culture of patriarchy, where KFI does not establish censorship against pornography. The symbolic violence is preserved in KFI due to transactional relationship, recreational function, economic value, and social climb tool by uploading photographs of sexy women. This structure of Habitus is shaped by economic capital, symbolic capital (education), history of photography, hunting model, camera industry and Facebook.

The presidential candidates are Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar as the first candidate, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the second candidate, and Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD as the third candidate. Since Indonesia has been actively promoting democracy in domestic areas and for international recognition, it is essential for the presidential candidates to promote democracy in their future programs. This paper aims to discover the most frequent discussed topics and how it reflected into the most-frequent words in their vision and mission books. Thus, this paper applied a computer-assisted textual analysis by Voyant tools. Voyant tool is known as a well-established methodology from data collection to data visualization. The results show that the first candidate focuses on the aspect of fairness in democracy, the second candidate focuses on the policy aspects of economic development, and the third one focuses on a broader aspect of economic development. Furthermore, the most frequent word analysis contributes to the theoretical understanding of computer-assisted textual analysis and democratic promotion among Indonesian presidential candidates.
