Abstract

This research aims to determine the diffusion of waste management program innovations in schools on Penyengat Island, Tanjungpinang City. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. Based on the analysis results obtained in the field, it can be concluded that the results found using the Diffusion of Innovation theory by Everet M. Rogers with 4 elements, namely Innovation, Communication Channels, Time Period and Social System, show that the waste management program adoption process will run optimally. This shows that the spirit of intensive communication from the school community on Penyengat Island is enthusiastic about adopting the program due to the sense of ownership of the school, facilities and infrastructure that require development as well as the process of preparing administrative requirements which is slowly increasing with collaboration. More incentive assistance and communication is needed, especially by activating the role of committees at each school in forming the character of students.

Abstract

Tailors are at high risk of occupational accidents, hypertension, and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) due to prolonged static sitting postures, extended working hours, and unhealthy lifestyles. These conditions negatively affect both productivity and occupational health. This community service program aimed to improve tailors’ knowledge and awareness of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) through interactive education. The methods included counseling, pre-test and post-test assessments, and evaluation of program success indicators covering OSH application, work behavior awareness, and healthy lifestyle practices. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores, with the mean rising from 5.4 in the pre-test to 9.5 in the post-test, a difference of +4.1 points. Program evaluation revealed high achievement in OSH implementation (100%), work awareness (100%), program benefits (100%), and healthy lifestyle awareness (90%). This program proved effective in enhancing tailors’ capacity to understand and apply OSH principles, thereby potentially reducing the risks of occupational accidents, MSDs, and hypertension. In conclusion, the Program of OSH education and provision is a crucial strategy to create a healthier, safer, and more productive working environment for tailors.

Environment-based diseases contribute to high morbidity and mortality rates in Indonesia. Based on data from the Riau Islands Province Health Profile in 2022, several environment-based diseases that are still a health problem include malaria, tuberculosis, and pneumonia. The purpose of this community service activity is to socialize environmental health services in the working area of Puskesmas Kampung Bugis, especially in RT 03 RW 01 to increase community access to environmental health services so as to reduce the number of cases of environment-based diseases. The method in this community service is carried out by increasing knowledge through the installation of standing banners which are also used as promotional media and direct socialization to the community in RT 03 RW 01 Kelurahan Kampung Bugis with power point media (PPT). The results from the pre-test of 18 participants showed that the community's knowledge level was poor in 11.11% of cases and good in 88.91%. The post-test results after socialization showed an increase in knowledge, with 100% of participants having good knowledge. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon test, it is known that there is a difference in the average knowledge scores between the pre and post tests (p=0.008). The activity went well and there was an increase in knowledge from the community regarding environmental health services
