Abstract

ICU defined as an intensive monitoring place and life support activities as well as definite therapy in life-threatens disease patients. In this Unit, patients generally receive treatment from various doctors that a patient can receive a variety of drugs from different doctors (polypharmacy). This unit also has higher frequency of drug demand than the other units in the hospital so the potential or actual drug interactions can occur. This study begins with a retrospective pilot study in ICU, concurrent studies in GICU (General Intensive Care Unit), data analysis and conclusions. Detection of drug interactions concurrently on 185 patients obtained 78 drug interactions that consists of 46 (58.97%) pharmacodynamic interactions and 27 (34.61%) pharmacokinetic interactions.

Abstract

Edible bird's nests (EBNs) from Aerodramus fuciphagus have been traditionally used in Asia for their various health benefits, including antioxidant properties. Previous studies have reported antioxidant activity in EBN water extracts using methods like ABTS and ORAC. However, the antioxidant activity can vary significantly depending on factors such as the source of EBN, extraction methods, and the specific assay used. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the antioxidant potential of EBN water extract using a range of in vitro assays. The antioxidant activity was assessed using four different methods: 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, nitric oxide (NO) radical scavenging, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC). Results demonstrated that the EBN water extract exhibited moderate NO radical scavenging activity with an IC50 value of 116.86 μg/mL. While weak activity was observed in the DPPH assay, the FRAP and CUPRAC assays showed promising antioxidant potential with an ascorbic acid equivalent (AAE) of 4.567±0.30 and 3.487±0.095 μg AAE/mL, respectively. These findings suggest that the antioxidant activity of EBN water extract may be primarily attributed to its protein content. However, further investigations are warranted to elucidate the specific mechanisms of action and isolate the bioactive compounds responsible for the observed antioxidant effects. These findings have implications for the development of EBN-based functional foods, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals with enhanced antioxidant properties.

Abstract

Cases of illegal drugs and drug abuse in the elementary school community in Indonesia is increasingly massive and alarming. An innovation to protect elementary school students from that situation is through the colaboration of academics from Bandung Institute of Technology with FDA in Palu in the form education of anti-drug abuse for elementary school students through quartet card media. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of the education on anti-drug abuse knowledge in fifth grade students in Palu City. The research method used pre-experimental design with the design of one group pretest-posttest on three elementary schools which were representatives of three ranks namely; good, quite good and not good based on the results of the Smart-Accurate Quiz FDA in Palu for elementary school level in 2017. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Observation of knowledge of elementary students using questionnaires that have been tested for validity and reliability had been carried out. The pretest and posttest were conducted before and after education. The comparison of pretest and posttest data in each elementary school was analyzed using paired T test whereas for all elementary school data analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with hypotheses. There was an influence of anti-drug abuse education through quartet card media on anti-drug abuse knowledge in fifth grade students in Palu City. The results showed that there was an influence of education on anti-drug abuse knowledge in fifth grade students from elementary school representatives “good and quite good ranking” with p values of 0.005 and p ≤ 0.001, while in elementary schools representatives “not good ranking”, the education did not influence their knowledge with a p value of 0.149. Analysis of the Wilcoxon test in all elementary schools showed a p value p ≤ 0,001, which meant that education had an influence on the knowledge of fifth grade students in elementary schools in Palu City.

Abstract

In alignment with the mandate of the Ministerial Regulation of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Permendikbudristek) No. 30 of 2021 on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) and ITB's Strategic Plan for continuous transformation to achieve national and global recognition, this community service initiative is designed to establish a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is a significant barrier to achieving educational goals; therefore, more rigorous efforts are needed to disseminate anti-sexual violence awareness from the university to external stakeholders surrounding the campus environment, such as vendors, café owners, boarding house managers, online motorcycle taxi drivers, and students. The socialization given by PPKS task force team  for those audiences. These output include publications in mass media, pocketbooks, and stickers. Among the 156 participants who attended, the largest proportion comprised students (46.2%; n=72), followed by campus business operators (45.5%; n=71), café managers (6.4%; n=10), boarding house managers (1.3%; n=2), and online drivers (0.6%; n=1). It is expected the collaborative involvement of all stakeholders will strengthen efforts to prevent sexual violence within the campus environment.
