Abstract

Physiological status is an indicator to determine the degree of health and productivity of livestock. This study aims to identify the physiological status of Sumba Ongole (SO) beef cattle on the island of Sumba by measuring body temperature, respiration frequency, pulse, and body conditioning score (BCS). Overall, there were 70 cows used in the study. Based on gender, there were 21 bulls and 49 cows and they were classified based on age, there were 3 categories, 1-1.5 years, 2-2.5 years, and 3 years. The parameters measured were body temperature, respiratory rate, pulse frequency, and BCS. The results of the study which were processed using analysis of variances (ANOVA) showed that there was no effect of sex or age on body temperature, respiration frequency, pulse frequency (P> 0.05), but there was a significant difference in the age category with the body score of SO cattle (P<0.05). It could be concluded that the physiological status of SO beef cattle which includes body temperature, respiration frequency, and pulse frequency does not show a significant effect on both sex and age, but there is a significant difference in the body score of cattle based on age categories. This research data could probably be used later as a reference for maintaining the health management of SO beef cattle to achieve optimal productivity and profitability.

Abstract

This research aims to study testis and epididymis of dry land goat (Capra hircus) on B-mode ultrasound imaging. Twelve adult local male goats were examined to study normal testes and epididymis ultrasonic appearances. B-mode real time scanner with a 7.5 MHz, linear array transducer was used to evaluate the echotexture of the testicular parenchyma, mediastinum and the epididymis. The testicular parenchyma was represented uniformly homogenous and moderately echogenic with the mediastinum was more highly echogenic. The epididymal head appeared less echogenic but homogenous in structure, while the epididymal tail was more heterogeneous and less echogenic than the testis. Each structure in male reproductive organ, the testis, head and tail of epididymis can be differentiated using ultrasound imaging, but body epididymis was difficult to identify. It is concluded that ultrasound can be as a valuable diagnostic tool to investigate the health of male goat reproductive organ.

Abstract

The aim of study was to determine the effect of the red dragon fruit juice (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on the viability of boar spermatozoa. The semen was contained from a healthy two year old male, using dummy sow's help. Good quality cement is divided into 5 groups where red dragon juice is added; 100 L (P1); 200 L (P2); 300 L (P3); 400 L (P4); 500 L (P5) deep in natural dilution and stored at prescribed temperatures. Spermatozoa's life observations were performed daily for every two hours of observation. A descriptive analysis of macroscopic and microscopic semen is obtained. The liquid semen evaluation data is analyzed using Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA). If there is a real difference in treatment, then a follow up test with Duncan to compare the results to each treatment. This study indicates that the real addition of coconut water thinkers and antioxidants of red dragon fruit (P<0,05) to the durability of boar spermatozoa. Treatment by applying the 200µL/mL of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) to the treatment of the rhizus fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) to the treatment of the semen was effective in sustaining the viability of spermatozoa was shown by its 50,96% motility value with a 20 hour deposit.

Abstract

Artificial insemination with liquid semen in East Nusa Tenggara is still very rare, the Artificial insemination program is carried out using fresh semen. Liquid semen is generally stored at a temperature of 16-18 °C and lasts only a few days depending on the diluent used, for longer storage it requires the addition of antioxidants that can suppress the dangers of ROS. Therefore, this study was conducted to test the filtrate of red dragon (Hylocereus polyrhizus) in life semen diluent, which is expected to maintain the quality of spermatozoa in fresh semen. Semen was collected from 5 boars using the Glove Hand Method with Dummy Sow. Fresh semen that meets the SNI is diluted with the conditions of spermatozoa motility >70%, spermatozoa concentration >200,106 cells/ml and < abnormalities of 20%. The research was carried out in several stages: 1) examination of fresh semen 2) preparation of diluent 3) preparation of red dragon filtrate (Hylocereus polyrhizus) 4) manufacture of liquid semen. The data were analyzed descriptively and in a Complete Randomized Design with 5 treatments and 4 replicates. If there is a real difference, it can be continued with the Duncan test. Consecutive treatments: KO (fresh semen control); K1( Fresh semen control + semen life® ); P1 (fresh semen + semen life® + red dragon filtrate (Hylocereus polyhizu) 100μL); P2 (fresh semen + semen life® + red dragon filtrate (Hylocereus polyhizu) 200μL); P3 (fresh semen + semen life® + red dragon filtrate (Hylocereus polyhizu) 300μL); P4 (fresh semen + semen life® + red dragon filtrate (Hylocereus polyhizu) 400μL); P5 (fresh semen + semen life® + red dragon filtrate (Hylocereus polyhizu) 500μL). The results of the study can be concluded that the addition of red dragon phytrate (Hylocereus polyrhizus) 300μL in semen life® diluent has good effectiveness in maintaining the quality of liquid semen in storage at a temperature of 18-20 °C.

Abstract

Semen dengan kualitas yang baik, sangat dipengaruhi oleh penanganannya terutama penyimpanan semen. Spermatozoa sangat rentan terhadap radikal bebas, penambahan filtrat buah stroberi sebagai antioksidan dapat menetralkan radikal bebas pada spermatozoa. Komponen antioksidan pada filtrat buah stroberi; flavonoid, antosianin, flavonol, flavanol, ellagic acid, selenium, zink, dan vitamin C akan mempertahankan keadaan normal sel dari adanya pro-oksidan atau radikal bebas yang mengakibatkan kerusakan membran dan DNA spermatozoa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan hipotesis bahwa filtrat buah stroberi dapat meningkatkan daya tahan semen babi Landrace ketika ditambahkan pengencer air kelapa. Pengambilan dan penampungan semen dilakukan dengan metode hand dan glove pada bagian korpus penis dan semen yang diambil adalah hasil fraksi kedua. Evaluasi semen segar berdasarkan 2 parameter; makroskopis dan mikroskopis. Pemberian filtrat stroberi sebagai antioksidan dibagi kedalam kelompok kontrol (K0 dan K1) dan kelompok perlakuan (P1 100µL, P2 200µL, P3 300µL, P4 400µL dan P5 500µL) disimpan dengan menggunakan metode water jacket dengan suhu holding time selama 16 jam diamati 2 jam sekali. Hasil evaluasi makroskopis dan mikroskopis semen segar dianalisis secara deskriptif. Data evaluasi semen cair dianalisis menggunakan Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Dan dilanjutkan uji Duncan apabila terdapat perbedaan nyata pada perlakuan, untuk membandingkan hasil terhadap tiap perlakuan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya perbedaan nyata antara kelompok kontrol dan perlakuan. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa ada pengaruh terhadap tambahan air kelapa sebagai pengencer alami dan filtrat stroberi sebagai antioksidan dalam meningkatkan kualitas spermatozoa. Perlakuan P4 400µL menjadi dosis yang paling tinggi persentase motilitas dan viabilitas spermatozoa selama 16 jam pemeriksaan yaitu 68.75% dan 70.83%.

Abstract

Liquid semen is one way of preserving semen which is carried out for short storage purposes at a temperature of preservation. with the help of a diluent. boar semen is different from other ruminant semen, so it needs special handling. Storage of pig semen at cold temperatures can reduce the motility and viability of spermatozoa. The aim of this study was to maintain the quality of pig semen by adding coconut water and native chicken egg yolk diluent with the addition of glucose and stored at a temperature preservation. Boar semen was collected from sexually mature adult boar aged 2 years, the collection was carried out by the massage method. Semen that has been accommodated, is evaluated macroscopically and microscopically to see the quality of the cement, before dilution is carried out. This study was designed with a completely randomized design and factorial pattern with 2 control groups, 4 treatment groups, and 4 replications. The control group consisted of fresh semen without diluent. K0 The treatment groups were P1 (80CW + 20% NCEY + 20 L glucose), P2 (80% CW + 20% NCEY + 40 L glucose), P3 (80% CW + 20% NCEY + 60 L glucose) and P4 (80 % CW + 20% NCEY + 90 L glucose), which was preserved by the water jacket method. Spermatozoa motility and viability were evaluated every 2 hours until the motility value reached 40%. The results showed that P3 was the best combination to preserve cement (32 hours).
