Abstract

This paper studies the translation quality of phrasal verbs generated by Auris AI in the Cartoon Scary Girl (2023) from the terms of accuracy, acceptability and readability. The aforementioned techniques are then applied to translation and the quality of a translated text measured using Nababan's framework. The researcher listed phrasal verbs systematically into a table, which was analysed according to the guidelines given in Spradley theory. As a result, despite Auris AI's claims of achieving up to 99% accuracy with high-quality transcriptions, the study found that the overall translation quality was medium with the average score is 2,24 out of 3,00 or 74,6%. It shows that Auris AI's high claim for translation accuracy is really just a kind of image appealing to the customers. The assessment incorporated three terms: accuracy, which scored 2.25 or 75%; acceptability, which also scored 2.25 or 75%; and readability, which scored 2.24 or 74.6%. These results showed that the translations often do not convey the intended meaning, lack naturalness, and have only a moderate level of clarity and comprehensibility.

Abstract

This research examines the evaluation of attitudes in 5 articles from Jakartapost.com regarding the electoral debate of presidential candidates. As a mass media outlet targeting readers both domestically and internationally, Jakartapost.com is required to maintain neutrality in reporting on presidential debates. Therefore, the research aims to understand the attitudes and political ideology of 2024 Indonesian presidential candidates reported by Jakartapost.com. The news was analyzed using the appraisal system proposed by Martin and White (2005), categorizing attitudes into affect, judgment, and appreciation. This research utilized qualitative methods with embedded case study and Spradley’s analysis to identify cultural patterns and themes within the data. The results showed that attitudes consisted of 39.7% negative and 24.6% positive judgments, 16.4% negative and 8.2% positive appreciations, and 9.6% negative and 1.4% positive affects. The appraisal system can identify political ideologies of the three presidential candidates. Anis Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo express conflicting attitudes towards the current government, indicating their role as opposition and socialist populism, while Prabowo Subianto aligns himself with the current government known as technocratic populism. Journalists tend to assess Prabowo more positively compared to other candidates, suggesting a bias towards supporting him in the 2024 election.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the appraisal system of the 212 movement reunion in online media. Data were from the news of  “trick of political identity” in Tirto online media. Data analysis was conducted using Spradley's theory modified by Santosa. The results indicate that appraisal system pattern of 212 reunion movement utilize attitude (43%), graduation (15%) and engagement system (42%). The attitude system uses a 42% affective subsystem pattern and 58% subsystem judgment. Graduation system uses a 70% force and 30% focus pattern. The engagement system is dominated by the use of heterogloss patterns of 82% rather than 18% monoglos. This percentage shows that the author discusses political identity in the 212 movement reunion. In his writing, the author is objective, neutral, independent and adheres to the principle of professionalism. This is proven by the high percentage of subsystem judgment 58% on the attitude system and 82% heterogloss usage on engagement system. The high percentage of use of focus force patterns shows that the author tries to use language that is easily understood by the wider community Keywords: Media online; Political Identity; 212 Movement Reunion; Appraisal System.
