Abstract

Analysis of carrying capacity of agricultural land for food crops is very important to do to determine the extent of the ability of agricultural land in supporting the fulfillment of the food needs of the population in an area. One problem in the Cibaliung watershed is the low ability of land to meet food needs so that residents cannot meet their needs independently. This study aims to determine the level of carrying capacity of agricultural food crops in meeting the food needs of the community in the Cibaliung River Basin (DAS) of Banten Province. Spatially, this study covered 2 regencies consisting of 15 districts within the scope of the Cibaliung watershed. The data used were secondary data taken from the Central Statistics Agency and the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Office of Pandeglang and Lebak Regencies. The results showed that overall based on 4-year data (for the period of 2013‒2016) the carrying capacity of the Cibaliung watershed agricultural land as a whole was still low. In addition, the optimal number of populations that is able to be supported by the available food needs is still smaller than the total population recorded in each district in the Cibaliung watershed. This shows that the Cibaliung watershed area has not been able to be self-sufficient in food and has not been able to provide a decent life for its residents. Therefore, certain efforts need to be made to increase the carrying capacity of food agricultural land in this area, for example by suppressing the population and improving the quality of agricultural land resources through efforts to conserve agriculture and diversify food crop species. Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

One effort to improve the quality of education is to enhance the quality of learning and provide professional educators. Teachers play a crucial role in the learning process, including the use of appropriate strategies and media. Engaging instructional media is essential for effective communication and interaction in the classroom. Media can include people, materials, or events that help students acquire knowledge and skills. Survey instruments and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications are effective instructional media but have not been fully utilized by teachers. This community service activity aimed to introduce survey instruments and GIS applications to students at three schools: SMAN 1 Suela, SMAS NW Tebaban, and MAS NW Tembeng Putik. The activities were conducted in three sessions: March 10, 2023, September 15, 2023, and November 24, 2023. The methods used included lectures, Q&A sessions, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and field observations. The results showed an increase in students' understanding and skills in using survey instruments and GIS applications. At SMAN 1 Suela, 80% of students understood the use of survey instruments such as GPS and geological compasses, and 75% could perform measurements and data collection. At SMAS NW Tebaban and MAS NW Tembeng Putik, 90% of students were able to create maps using the Quantum GIS application. This activity also increased students' interest in studying geography and related sciences. In conclusion, the introduction and guidance on survey instruments and GIS applications are crucial for enhancing students' understanding and skills in geography, making learning more applicable and beneficial

Abstract

Survey on the population and distribution of long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis [Raffles, 1821]) in the administrative areas of West Nusa Tenggara Province have been conducted during June-July 2024 to examine the distribution and population status on the macaque.  The on-road reconnaissance survey, interview and literature studies have applied to collect data. We recorded 6146 individuals from 307 groups of long-tailed macaques in eight regencies. Of the 6146 individuals of long-tailed macaques, 1532 individuals are recorded living in conservation area, while 4614 individuals live in outside conservation area, respectively.  The number of individuals and troops of the monkey showed us the minimum number that can be recorded. Further study needs to be conducted in addressed to dig more information on the existence of long-tailed macaque in West Nusa Tenggara. Furthermore, population information and distribution of long-tailed macaques could be the basic knowledge on the population management efforts in the future.
