Abstract

Abstract. The rise of defamation cases in Indonesia provides an entry point for forensic linguistic (one of linguistics branches) to solve all the legal cases related to language. For instance, the case of insult and defamation that was allegedly directed to Iriana Widodo through the choice of ironic dictions which referred to her physical appearance, her dressing style, and her communication style. This study aims to analyze in depth several texts that have been posted by several accounts on social media which are suspected in containing defamation isues against her. This study uses forensic linguistic analysis through a qualitative descriptive approach. The data in this research are some texts taken from social media accounts. Those texts went viral because they allegedly contained elements of defamation against her. To dissect each aspect as a means of discourse in each text, this study uses Halliday's social semiotic analysis. The results found that both texts contained insults containing physical insults (body shaming) and attacks on Iriana Widodo's honor as First Lady of the Indonesian Republic. The data in C.1 also contains attitude shaming which contains elements of misogyny towards women (in this case towards female prostitutes - specifically for data C.1). Meanwhile the data C.2 shows that the text used ironic figures of speech to indirectly insinuate Iriana Widodo's physical apperances and clothing style which is associated with household assistants (housemaids). The author of the text also used the dysphemism of prostitutes to attack Iriana Widodo (data C.2). Finally, data C.2 shows that the text maker attacks her by choosing ironic figures of speech.

Abstract

Melasti Beach is a beach-based tourist attraction located in Badung Regency, the southern region of Bali Island. One of the attractions of ecotourism from the beach is that it is often used as a spot for taking prewedding photos. This study aims to determine the type of signs that indicate a special area for prewedding services at Melasti Beach. In addition, this study also describes the type of language used in the prewedding sign. From the observations made at Melasti Beach, many signs are used to indicate special facilities for prewedding activities. The theory used is Nash (2016) Landscape Linguistic Theory with a method used to analyze the types of prewedding sign signs in public spaces accompanied by a Geosemiotic approach by Scollon and Scollon (2003). This research uses qualitative research methods, namely by taking several photos of signboards and signs related to prewedding signs. Data were analyzed using the taxonomy of Spolsky and Cooper (1991). This research uses qualitative research methods, namely by taking several photos of signboards and signs related to prewedding facilities. From the results of the analysis, it was found that signs related to prewedding facilities include Toilet For Prewedd Only, Dressing Room For Prewedd Only, Private Prewedd Only, and Photo Shoot Only. All of these signs are written monolingually, namely in English. This shows that prewedding activities are predominantly carried out by foreign tourists although there are also local (domestic) tourists who also do prewedding activities at Melasti Beach

Abstract

One thing that needs to be developed by members of POKDARWIS Jehem Village, Bangli Regency, Bali Province is the ability to serve tourists from Japan. Based on this background, Japanese Tourism language learning was carried out. The activity has been carried out twice, namely on July 26, 2024 and August 13, 2024. The name of the activity is Sakura (One day of gathering together). Each session was attended by around 50 participants. Based on the enthusiasm for the activity, it was grouped quite high. The first evaluation was carried out by means of a test. By giving questions, 93 people were able to correctly answer questions related to greetings and Japanese letters, 75 people were able to write self-introductions in Japanese, the rest still needed improvement in answering. Evaluation of Japanese language training was carried out by distributing questionnaires. The substance of the questions asked included satisfaction after learning Japanese with the results of 2 people saying they were quite satisfied, 77 people saying they were satisfied, and 21 people saying they were very satisfied. Some suggestions were given in the questionnaire, including improving the quality of the videos shown, more in-depth training on pronunciation and memorizing Japanese terms, and further training on the correct use of chopsticks. Practical evaluations include non-test evaluations. Non-test evaluations were conducted on the material on introducing oneself in Japanese and the use of chopsticks by participants. In the practice of introducing oneself, most were able to perform well, but they still seemed embarrassed because they were not yet confident in pronouncing Japanese terms. This was also seen when using chopsticks. Many were still not used to using chopsticks because it was not a habit in everyday life.

Abstract

The study entitled "Violations of Politeness Principles in the Anime Haikyuu!! Season 2" aims to describe the violations of politeness principles, the factors underlying these violations, and the responses to these violations. This research is a pragmatic study using a politeness analysis approach. The theories used are the politeness theories of Leech, Mizutani and Mizutani, and Austin's perlocutionary acts. The research method employed is qualitative. Based on the research findings, it was discovered that: 1) Violations of politeness maxims occurred in the maxims of tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy. The violations were predominantly in the approbation maxim because the speakers aimed to create a casual atmosphere. 2) The factors underlying the violations of politeness maxims include the level of familiarity, age, social status, gender, group membership, and situation. Gender and situation factors predominantly cause violations of politeness maxims, as most speakers are of the same gender and the utterances occur in informal contexts. 3) The perlocutionary acts resulting from the violations of politeness maxims include hindering, encouraging, condemning, convincing, annoying, relieving, embarrassing, frightening, distracting, inspiring, impressing, and boring. Among these twelve perlocutionary acts, convincing was the most frequently found because the majority of the violations by the speakers aimed to persuade the interlocutors of their opinions and feelings of annoyance from the interlocutor.

Abstract

This study is entitled Japanese Clause Relativization Strategy. The purpose of this study is to describe the structure, strategy, and previous functions of relative clauses in Japanese. The theory used in analyzing the formulation of problems related to relative clauses in this study refers to the theory developed by Dixon (2010) in his book entitled "Basic Linguistic Theory 2". This study summarizes the analysis in micro linguistics, namely syntax. Syntactically, the antecedent in the Japanese relative clause is positioned at the end. In Japanese relative clauses, there are no relative markers. Only antecedents that are attached directly to the predicate are part of the relative clause. The function of the relative clause is to explain nouns or noun phrases which in Japanese are called hishuushokumeishi. This research is included in qualitative research. The data analyzed in this study came from the media and publications from the site https://www.sukasuki.org/koran-sukasuki. This study produced several points, including that Japanese relative clauses precede the nouns that are described or known by the previous term. The basic structure of relative clauses in Japanese always begins with a clause that describes and ends with the noun being described. Antecedents in Japanese can be nouns, noun phrases, or particles such as no and koto. There are no conjunctions such as "yang" in Indonesian or "who/which" in English. In this study, pseudo-conjunctions such as ni kan suru and to iu were found. Predicates in Japanese relative clauses can be verbs, verbs conjugated with hojodoushi, nouns, and can also be adjectives.
