Abstract

Background: Elementary school students have unique characteristics. Each child has their ways of doing their activities. In its activities, of course, there are risks, especially in the lower extremities, namely flat foot, which is the condition of the medial arch treading with the ground or flat due to emphasis on the medial part, excessive or over foot conditions will result in an increase in valgus shape in the knee joint; thus the degree of quadriceps angle (Q-angle) can increase. This study aims to determine the relationship between flat foot and Q-angle in elementary school children in Kusamba Village, Dawan District, Klungkung Regency. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between flat feet and Q-angle. Methods: Observational analytical cross-sectional design that uses simple random sampling techniques with a sample of 51 people according to predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected with a wet footprint test and Clark's angle to find a flat foot and Q-angle with a 360o goniometer. Results: The analysis test results obtained a result of p=0.000 (p<0.05), so it can be explained that there is a significant relationship between flat foot and Q-angle. The results of the spearmen-rho analysis obtained a moderate relationship with the value of the correlation coefficient on the right flat foot with a right Q-angle of 0.527 and the left flat foot with a left Q-angle of 0.597 which means the direction of the relationship is unidirectional. Conclusion: Based on the study's results, it can be concluded that there is a moderate, unidirectional, and meaningful relationship between flat foot and Q-angle in elementary school children in Kusamba Village, Dawan District, Klungkung Regency.

Abstract

Background: Shoulder pain and disability is a disorder commonly experienced by surfers, which is characterized by pain and limitations in the shoulder region when performing functional movements. Shoulder movement is closely related to the surfer's paddling movements when surfing, so high paddling intensity increases the risk of complaints in the shoulder region. This research aimed to prove that adding postural muscle neck control to conventional physiotherapy rehabilitation intervention was more effective in reducing shoulder pain and disability than conventional physiotherapy rehabilitation intervention. Methods: This research was experimental with a randomized pre- and post-test two-group design. Research participants were randomly divided into two groups. This research measured shoulder disability using the shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI) questionnaire. Results: The paired T-test analysis showed significant differences in the reduction in SPADI scores in group intervention, which was 23.2±2.7 with p-value< 0.001, and in group control, was 20.15± 3.3 with p-value< 0.001 in the patient's shoulder functional increase. The independent T-test obtained a p-value of 0.002, proving a significant difference between the intervention and control groups in reducing shoulder disability among recreational surfers. Conclusion: There were significant differences in SPADI scores before and after both group interventions. In addition, data showed that the additional postural neck muscle exercise on conventional physiotherapy rehabilitation obtained better improvement in shoulder disability than conventional physiotherapy intervention only among recreational surfers. Keywords: Conventional physiotherapy rehabilitation, postural muscle neck control, recreational surfers, shoulder pain and disability

Abstract

Introduction: Aging brings about notable changes in the musculoskeletal system, affecting muscle flexibility and dynamic balance among the elderly. This study explores the correlation between hamstring muscle flexibility and dynamic balance in elderly residents of Bagendang Hulu Village, Central Kalimantan. Decreasing flexibility with age can lead to stiffness and reduced mobility, impacting daily activities. Hamstring muscles, crucial for tasks like standing and walking, contribute significantly to balance, despite their decreased flexibility in older adults. Dynamic balance, essential for mobility and fall prevention, integrates sensory, motor, and cognitive functions, influenced by muscle strength and joint functionality. Method: This cross-sectional study involved 66 participants aged 60-94 years from Elderly Integrated Health Posts. Hamstring flexibility was assessed using the Chair Sit and Reach Test, and dynamic balance was measured with the Timed Up and Go Test. Results: The study found no significant correlation (p > 0.05) between hamstring muscle flexibility and dynamic balance in this population. Conclusion: Active engagement in senior gymnastics is recommended to enhance physical fitness and overall quality of life, addressing factors such as cardiovascular health, hypertension risk, blood sugar regulation, flexibility, and balance maintenance. Future research should focus on larger sample sizes, controlling for medical histories, and balancing participant demographics to provide deeper insights. Understanding these relationships can inform interventions aimed at enhancing musculoskeletal health and reducing fall risks among elderly populations. Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension, or high blood pressure, can lead to severe illnesses and death. Yoga has been identified as a method to lower blood pressure by improving blood circulation and heart function. This study evaluates the benefits of yoga in managing hypertension and identifies contributing factors. Methods: An analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach was used. The study included 103 yoga practitioners selected via probability sampling. Blood pressure was measured using digital and aneroid sphygmomanometers. Dependent variables included body mass index (BMI), age, and physical activity measured through the IPAQ questionnaire. Results: Yoga practitioners aged 18-39, predominantly females without a family history of hypertension and with normal BMI and high physical activity levels, generally had normal blood pressure. Fewer hypertension cases were observed in these groups. Those without a family history of hypertension had fewer cases compared to those with a history. Respondents with normal BMI mostly had normal blood pressure, but slight increases in hypertension were noted among overweight and obese individuals. No clear pattern was observed between coffee consumption and blood pressure. High physical activity levels were associated with normal blood pressure. Conclusion: Age, gender, family history, BMI, coffee intake, physical activity, smoking, and medication adherence impact grade 1 hypertension. Yoga effectively lowers blood pressure and manages stress. Integrating yoga into educational hypertension programs can enhance public awareness and management skills. Promoting yoga as part of a healthy lifestyle could significantly reduce hypertension prevalence and its societal health burden, fostering healthier communities resilient against hypertension risks. Abstract

Abstract

Background: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear represents a serious sports injury in active individuals. While reconstruction seeks to restore knee stability and quadriceps strength, full recovery of the vastus medialis oblique (VMO) angle is frequently not achieved. This study aimed to investigating the relationship between the vastus medialis oblique angle (VMOA) and Lysholm score with quadriceps isometric strength and Tegner score in patients after ACLR. Methods: This research used a literature review method of seven relevant scientific journals published within the last 10 years (2015–2025). The literature was selected based on strict inclusion and exclusion criteria from reputable scientific databases. These include PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and PEDro using the keyword "vastus medialis oblique," which is also a keyword for "vastus medialis," "Lysholm score," "quadriceps isometric," and "Tegner score." Results:  There waa a significant relationship between VMOA angles and isometric quadriceps strength and functional values of Lysholm and Tegner. Patients with VMOA angles within the ideal range and adequate quadriceps muscle strength generally showed better knee functional value and activity level. Rehabilitative interventions, such as the use of hybrid assistance limb (HAL) and electro muscle stimulation (EMS), have been shown to be effective in improving muscle strength and clinical scores. Conclusion: This study concluded that there was a significant relationship between VMOA angles, isometric quadriceps strength, and Lysholm and Tegner functional scores in patients after ACLR. The findings emphasize the importance of rehabilitation focusing on strengthening VMO and quadriceps muscles to improve knee stability and post-ACLR clinical outcomes.
