Abstract

Background: Body mass index (BMI) is a score that is assessed by a person's weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. If a person does not maintain a normal BMI and activity frequency, it will impact various disease risks, including bone problems, one of which is scoliosis. Scoliosis is a disorder that causes an indentation in the vertebrae or spine in the form of sideways or lateral deviation. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body mass index and scoliosis. Methods: This study used a literature review study method or literature review from five English-language journals that were relevant to the relationship between BMI with scoliosis. The journal searched Google Scholar, PubMed, and Pedro with the keywords “Scoliosis,” “Body Mass Index,” “Spine,” “Correlation,” and “Relationship.” Results: From five studies discussing the relationship between BMI with scoliosis, it was found that all journals showed a relationship between BMI with scoliosis. This is associated with several factors, such as gender, diet, and others. Conclusion: Based on the literature that has been collected along with the previous discussion, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between BMI and scoliosis.

Abstract

Background: Weaving has risk for experiencing nonspecific low back pain (LBP) that caused by bad posture and prolonged sitting duration. Poor sitting position causes musculoskeletal disorders, one of which is pain. Complaints of pain that is felt in the waist, causing functional limitation of movement when moving due to postural errors, are called nonspecific LBP. Weavers with good body positions have a low risk of nonspecific LBP complaints and increased productivity. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sitting position and nonspecific LBP complaints in Buton Sarong weavers in Baubau City. Methods: This study used an analytic observational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The research subjects were taken using probability and purposive sampling techniques. The independent variable measured was the sitting position using the rapid entire body assessment (REBA). The dependent variable measured was nonspecific LBP using a physiotherapy history-taking process. Results: There were 63 weavers in this study, 51 people (81%) had a low sitting position, and 12 (19%) had medium risk. The Spearman's rho non-parametric analysis test showed no relationship between sitting position and nonspecific LBP complaints in this population (p=0.819). Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between sitting position and nonspecific LBP complaints.

Abstract

Background: Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is one of the common injuries to the knee that often occur, causing pain when doing physical activities such as squatting, running or going up and down stairs when the knee is bent. As the joint that supports the body the most, this certainly hinders a person's activities. PFPS is caused by various risk factors ranging from intrinsic factors such as muscle strength to extrinsic factors such as type of activity. This study aimed to determine the risk factors related to PFPS as a preventive effort by doing quadriceps muscle strengthening exercises.  Methods: This study used a literature review study design using secondary data from published literature. Literature searches were conducted online through PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, using the keywords “knee injury”, “patellofemoral pain”, “patellofemoral pain syndrome”, and “risk factors”, which selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: From the five studies that discussed risk factors related to PFPS, it was found that all journals showed quadriceps muscle strength, type of daily activity, Q-angle, joint laxity, hip tightness, patellar imbalance, overuse, and patellofemoral joint overpressure were associated with PFPS. Conclusion: Based on the literature that has been reviewed and the discussion, the dominant risk factor associated with PFPS was a decrease in hip muscle strength, especially quadriceps. Besides, several other contributing factors include the type of daily activity, Q-angle, joint laxity, hip tightness, patellar imbalance, overuse, and patellofemoral joint overpressure.

Abstract

Introduction: Religious rituals in Balinese Hinduism involve numerous ceremonies with offerings called banten. An essential stage in making Banten is mejejaitan, where artisans use staplers instead of bamboo skewers in crafting. However, prolonged use of staplers and highly repetitive behaviour can increase the risk of de Quervain's tenosynovitis. This study aims to determine the relationship between the duration of mejejaitan and the risk of developing de Quervain's tenosynovitis among Banten artisans in Gianyar Regency. Methods: This observational study used a cross-sectional approach, with purposive sampling yielding 88 subjects. The independent variable was the duration of mejejaitan, while the dependent variable was de Quervain's tenosynovitis. Data collection was conducted through direct interviews to gather information about the duration of mejejaitan. Additionally, specific tests such as the WHAT test were performed to assess the risk of de Quervain's tenosynovitis, and pain intensity was measured using the NRS. Results: Data analysis using the Spearman rho test yielded a p-value of 0.018, indicating a relationship between the duration of mejejaitan and the risk of de Quervain's tenosynovitis. The correlation coefficient r of 0.251 showed a positive correlation, suggesting a direct relationship with a low correlation strength. Conclusion: The longer the duration of mejejaitan without rest, the higher the risk of developing de Quervain's tenosynovitis. Keywords: de Quervain's tenosynovitis, mejejaitan, Banten artisans
