Abstract

This paper analyzes Lebanese policy towards Syrian refugees within their country. The prolonged conflict in Syria has generated a large-scale influx of refugees that contributed to the addition of 1.5 million to 4.5 million Lebanon population. While other Middle Eastern countries such as Jordan and Turkey responded by accepting the arrival of these refugees, Lebanon took the opposite response. Through the analysis of securitization theory and the nexus between migration and demographic balance, it can be understood that the Lebanese Government uses a speech of act strategy in conducting securitization. Speech of act is carried out through political discourse and the role of the media in portraying refugees as an existential threat that require special measure to handle them. Lebanon also uses the issue of demographic change, sectarian balance, and the emergence of the new conflicts, as issues that threaten Lebanon domestic stability and security.

Abstract

Currently, 12 years post-NATO intervention, Libya falls into the category of a fragile state, with worsening indices in the economic, security, and social aspects since 2011. While not a new topic, the situation in Libya in 2011 can always serve as a lesson and exemplification of the discourse on humanitarian intervention, specifically the principal aspects of Responsibility to Protect (R2P). The current situation in Libya raises questions about whether there were flaws in the military intervention carried out by the NATO alliance in 2011. This paper aims to analyze the just ad bellum features related to the principal aspects within R2P were implemented in the NATO intervention in Libya. Thus, this study argues that the failure of the military intervention in Libya is due to the non-fulfillment of the basic aspects of Responsibility to Protect (R2P), especially in relation to just ad bellum, such as right authority, last resort, just cause, right intention, proportional means, and reasonable prospects in carrying out humanitarian intervention.

Abstract

The influx of migrants into Europe in 2015 has led to a sharp rise in support for right-wing groups. Denmark is a prime example of this tendency, as the Danish People's Party (Dansk Folkeparti, DF) scored its highest-ever election success and emerged as the second-largest party in the 2015 Denmark’s general election, greatly impacting immigration and refugee decisions. The dominance of right-wing parties has, in turn, influenced Denmark’s policy direction towards asylum seekers and refugees. Anti-refugee and anti-asylum seeker narratives propagated by these parties reflect elements of securitization employed by the Danish government in addressing refugee issues. This study aims to examine the changes in Denmark’s government policies toward refugees. It seeks to analyze the elements within the concept of securitization that underpin the shifts in anti-immigration narratives particularly post-2015. This assumption is based on two factors; the anti-immigration policies advocated by right-wing parties and the perception of refugees as threats to security.

Abstract

Abstract

Globalization does not automatically align with equitable growth and development. Its progress has often been exclusionary, as reflected in the growing number of marginalized groups overlooked by global development dynamics. Among these groups, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) remain particularly neglected, receiving limited support and attention from the international community. This causes IDPs to experience more social vulnerability, exclusion, and deprivation in various sectors. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has one of the largest IDP populations worldwide. Conflict and violence, and frequent natural disasters, have become the main reasons for displacement. This paper aims to discuss the most feasible durable solution to be implemented in handling prolonged displacement in the DRC. Using qualitative methods, this paper used the concept of Internally Displaced Persons and also the concept of Durable Solutions in addressing these matters.

Abstract

This research investigates how migration infrastructure facilitates worldwide student mobility within the broad scope of higher education internationalization, together with a specific focus on Universitas Mataram, Central Eastern Indonesia. Despite the push for international education through National KPI Universities (IKU) , universities in peripheral regions often face significant architectural obstacles to access the above opportunities. Taking the notion of migration systems, the study examines the ways in which institutional arrangements, actors, and practices interact to shape student mobility experiences. By using migration infrastructure concept,Student mobility and internationalization the analysis shows that during internationalization efforts to facilitate cross-border connectivity, their results are unevenly distributed The occurrence of Universitas Mataram reveals the same constraints and the development of the building of the local educational migration nerve pathway. This study found three-part analysis: a) migration infrastructure for student mobility at University of Mataram, b) pattern and form of student mobility, c) Adaptation of internationalization of higher education by supporting migration infrastructure at University of Mataram. These discoveries add to our understanding of the ways in which periphera.l higher education institutions are able to negotiate national mandates and local difficulties to participate equally at global level.
