Abstract

Introduction: Basic Health Research in 2018 stated Jember as a district with the third highest incidence of undernutrition in East Java. Undernutrition is a threat to future generations because it has short-term and long-term impacts that can be irreversible. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with undernutrition among children under five in Karangrejo Village, Jember Regency. Methods: This research used a cross-sectional method involving 94 mothers and children under five years old registered at Posyandu in Karangrejo Village who were selected by purposive sampling. The dependent variable included the sociodemographic factors of mothers and children and was obtained using a demographic questionnaire. The dependent variable, undernutrition, was determined based on weight-for-age and was obtained by plotting the child's weight on the WHO weight-for-age curve: 0-5 years (z score) according to the child's sex. Statistical tests used ordinal logistic regression tests. Results: There are some factors contributing to undernutrition, including the father's education in elementary school (p=0.002, OR=5.628), the number of children no more than two persons (p=0.038, OR=-2.546), a complete history of immunization (p=0.011, OR=-4.627), history of infection of ARI every month and every two months (p =0.001, OR= -3.897, -7.250) respectively, and the level of mother's knowledge about fulfilling children nutrition (p=0.000, OR= 5.593).Conclusions: This study suggests that raising parent education, complete immunization, and mothers' knowledge are recommended to prevent undernutrition among children. Furthermore, the outcome of this study re-emphasizes that educational activities regarding children's nutritional needs are still needed to improve mothers' knowledge. Abstract

Abstract

Haryoto.

Abstract

Introduction: Low frequency of breastfeeding (<8 times per day) can reduce the infant's body fluid volume, thereby hindering bilirubin excretion and resulting in reabsorption into the bloodstream. This condition increases bilirubin levels and the risk of neonatal jaundice. If not properly managed, jaundice can develop into kernicterus, a condition of permanent brain damage caused by the accumulation of bilirubin in brain tissue. In Indonesia, the incidence rate of hyperbilirubinemia is 79.6%. At Bhayangkara Hospital Bondowoso in 2024, 25.7% of newborns experienced jaundice. This study aims to analyze the relationship between breastfeeding frequency and the incidence of neonatal jaundice in the Perinatology Unit of Bhayangkara Hospital Bondowoso. Methods: This is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all mothers who gave birth at Bhayangkara Hospital Bondowoso, totaling 103 individuals. The sample size was calculated using the Slovin formula, resulting in 83 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents (54%) breastfed with a low frequency (<8 times per day), while 46% breastfed frequently (≥8 times per day). Furthermore, 53% of infants experienced jaundice, while 47% did not. Based on the chi-square statistical test, there was a significant relationship between breastfeeding frequency and the incidence of neonatal jaundice at Bhayangkara Hospital Bondowoso, with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusions: This indicates that the lower the frequency of breastfeeding, the higher the risk of jaundice in newborns. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a foundation for enhancing education for breastfeeding mothers to prevent jaundice in newborns. Keywords: Breastfeeding frequency, neonatal jaundice

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus causes sugar in the blood to not be brought into cells and causeshyperglycemia. Excessive levels of sugar in the blood can disrupt the work of blood cells whichwill release oxygen so that oxygen in the blood becomes reduced which causes hypoxia inperipheral tissues. Glucosuria causes the body to lose calories, causing a decrease in metabolicenergy and malaise. This study aimed to analyze the relationship of oxygen saturation withmalaise in diabetes mellitus patients. Methods: The design used in this research is a cross-sectional approach. The population of DM patients at hospital on average in the last 3 monthswas 160 patients. The sample in this study was 50 respondents. This study used a samplingtechnique of no-probability sampling with the Quota sampling method. Data collection in thisstudy used oximetry and the DSS questionnaire. The data analysis technique used is theSpearman test. Results: This study showed that most of the oxygen saturation experiencedmoderate hypoxemia as many as 20 people and the category of acute malaise was 1 person (2%),subacute malaise was 16 people (32%), and chronic malaise was 33 people (66%). Based on theresults of the Rank Spearman statistical test, it is known that there is a relationship betweenoxygen saturation and malaise in diabetes mellitus patients (p-value 0.000 α < 0.05).Conclusion: There is a relationship between oxygen saturation and malaise in Diabetes Mellituspatients. The health care system can implement the comprehensive strategy to solve problemrelated to diabetes mellitus patient.
